I have a hairline crack (with some starring) on my left rear tail light of my 2006 Prius touring. Any good glue or compound to patch it up and prevent water/moisture/dirt from getting in there and still stay clear for light to shine through?
View 2 RepliesMy passenger side tail light (the upper part above the reverse lights) don't light up when you press on the break. Or rather, they light up, but just not as bright as the driver side. I took the car to the dealership and they told me they'd need to replace the entire tail light and I just wanted to see if that was indeed the case.
View 3 RepliesWe have a 2007 Prius and have been very happy with it overall. The right rear tail light keeps burning out and we keep taking it back to the local Toyota dealer for replacement, but they have been very good about it. Though an annoyance, if that was the only problem we had I would not be here right now typing this.
Today my wife was driving and came to an intersection at a red light to make a right-hand turn. She braked coming into the turn and as she made the turn. What happened next scared her and is very concerning to us -

View 4 RepliesPurchased used 2006 and the left tail light does not work at times until I rotate the socket as if removing it. This happens frequently and then after about 3 weeks the bulb blows. I've confirmed the there is no socket terminal issue and no intermittent opens in the wiring to the socket. The buld internal glass blackens as if it is running too hot but the voltage measures slightly over 12V when I've measured it. The bulbs are rated at 13V. At this point the only thing I can think of is there must be an occasional high voltage spike that hits the left tail light but not the right tail light.
View 5 RepliesWhile swapping on my winter tires yesterday, I noticed the strut boot (I believe it's called) on the passenger side has a large crack, almost split in two. See picture attached.
The Prius is a 2006 with almost 370K KM (~231K miles), and I am hoping to keep the car for another 1-2 years, until the PIP2 is out.
Is this something to be concerned about? The strut is not leaking, and the suspension seems otherwise fine.

my right rear tail light is not working. I tested the tray on the left side and the brake light works, so the problem must be from the right connector or right wiring back somewhere.
any tips on how to find the problem from here?
Last nite a driver told me that both my rear tail lights and and running lights were out - but brake lights and license plate light worked ok. I checked the bulbs are they are fine. Where I can find a wiring schematic for the 07?
View 5 RepliesI need to replace one of the tailights on my wife's '06 RX330. It's one of the inboard tailights that, along with a backup light, is contained in a module in the rear liftgate.
How to remove the module for access to the lights? I see a screw/nut that apparently must be removed first, but after removing it, I couldn't tell whether module pulled straight out (or forward when the liftgate is closed), if it pulled to the side of the car, or if there's another fastener I missed. I don't want to pull the wrong way and break something......
1. Neither tail lamp lights
2. License plate light works
3. Front parking lights work
4. Both tail lamp bulbs are fine (visual and continuity both check)
5. No power at the bulb socket on either tail lamp
6. Tail lamp ground in both bulb sockets is fine
7. Fuse under dash is not blown
8. All brake lights work fine.
9. All other lights working.
Maybe I should just give up and be happy with the standard bulbs, but I had to try putting in led bulbs. While doing this the bulb I had was just a little to long. It popped of the reflector that sits on the red plastic piece and is now resting in the bottom of the housing. Is there a way of putting it back on with out destroying it or getting a new assembly.

Next day 10a fuse blew again and then 2 more times in same day. My tail lights go out and license plate light go out together when this happens. What can I do?
Got flagged by a fellow driver, and told both tail lights were out; I had no dashboard warning light. Headlights were on, blinkers worked, brake lights worked. This is a small deal, but I was surprised; is there really no warning for this (2006 mid-package), or is something else the matter?
View 15 RepliesI have a 2008 Generation II Touring Edition Prius. Someone informed me that my passenger side tail light was not working. I ordered some red LEDs to replace the suspected burned out bulb. When I opened up the trap door from the inside of the rear and when I checked on the bulb, it lit up. (Thought that it had loosened itself?)
When my LEDs arrived, I unplugged the bulbs (right and left) and attempted to replace the old bulbs. The LEDs would not light up. And now the bulbs will not work either.
I went to the auto parts store and bought replacement 2825 bulbs. No go. Is there a fuse that may have blown? Or ??? I don't have a tool to check for voltage - what is my next step?
The lens in my far rear dome light has a small crack in it. I was trying to find a new one, but so far, no luck. I've found a few used ones on Ebay for the Expedition, but none so far for the Excursion. Did the Expedition (99-02) have the same housing for the rear dome light as the Excursion? It looks the same, but I don't know if the dimensions are the same.

View 19 RepliesSo, I got my oil changed at the dealer and they said that I have a cracked rear coil spring. They quoted $350. So I took it to my real mechanic and he looked at it, said it's fine for now but I do have inspection next month. He said my struts feel fine. I'm having trouble finding just the spring since the Moog ones are out of stock. I did see Unity quick struts but I don't know if they're any good whatsoever. Whether to just go with springs (and a link to some) or get the complete struts and lend an opinion on good ones. Also, it has 122k miles. A0001 ?
View 9 RepliesCracked rear window from bottom center (on the driver's side just past the Dole light). Dealer says that they would have to sub out the install. That worries me a little, given antennae & other items hooked up on/near rear window.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 Subaru Outback. The rear right brake light housing cracked, and filled up with water, shorting the bulbs. I thought I was clever in taking the light unit off, draining the water, changing the bulbs, and caulking the crack with silicon. This worked for a while, then the battery died. I couldn't really figure out why - it was a year old, and had no prior issues starting the car. I swapped out the battery for a brand new one, and that seemed to solve the issue for a week. Then the car refused to start all over again. I remembered the brake light, checked it - filled again. So I replaced the unit and the pig electric line, and charge the battery. This seemed to solve the problem, but then the car failed to start after about 3 weeks.
One additional detail is the dial light switch on the driving shaft. One is able to turn this to adjust light settings. Regardless of position, the lights turn off when I turn off the car. However, failure to start seems to be additionally related to the position of this switch; if it's switched all the way back towards the driver the car appears to start consistently for weeks on end, BUT the tail lights fail to turn on in this position (though the brake lights work). Alternatively, dialing the switch all the way away from the driver turns on the tail lights, but seems to be related to battery drain.
I've checked the health of the battery and the contacts - everything checks out. At this point I'm wondering if it's an electrical fault or the alternator.
My mk4 the right rear tail light isn't working. So what I swapped the light board from the left side and the issue followed. What can I check to get it going again? The rest of the lights on that panel are working.
