I have a 2006 Prius with a Back Up camera, but I am not sure if it is just a back up camera or if sensors are suppose to make noise if i get close to another car. Is there suppose to be a sensor in the bumper or was it not included?
View 1 RepliesIn my 2009 standard prius, the back up camera often, maybe 50% of the time, is just black. It has some scrolling look, and sometimes i can see a faint image of whats there. The warning text on the screen is still there, and I am positive the is plenty of light, and nothing blocking the camera.
Its almost as if the TV rabbit ears need some adjustment. Flickery images, images literally scrolling left to right, etc. Other times, its perfect. Where do i start? loose wires somewhere?
My backup camera is only working about 20% of the time with no pattern to it. When I shift into reverse I get a bright white screen with colorful vertical lines in it. Everything else about my display works fine. Is there a way to reset something on this? Every now and then it works but most of the time I get the white screen with vertical colored lines. It's a 2006 package #8 with 63k.

View 2 RepliesSomething strange happened the other evening while driving. I'll just lay down the facts: I picked up my kid from class. When we got in the Prius there was a song I turned it down kind of fast.
It had rained earlier and there was a puddle at the curb. I slowly went through it and into traffic and accelerated. The music stopped and I looked at the display. The back up camera was on and I was looking at the road moving behind me. It flashed a few times then went black.
I pulled over and turned off the car. Turned it back on and all has been OK since. Just weird that it would do that all by itself.
I didn't "blast" through the water.
what turns on the back up camera,, the computer, the back up light relay or the transmission selector?

View 1 RepliesJust purchased 2010 lll w/ Nav and backup cam. Although the cam works fine it doesn't show a grid. I drove a 2008 w/ cam and that did show a grid. The salesman stated some camera's did show it and others don't.
View 5 Replies 2006 price with going back - rest about 105K miles on it. Recently the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with all the warning lights. Battery fan runs non-stop as soon as the car is started and if driven, the gas engine never turns off. When it happened I was circling the neighborhood looking for parking. After about 5 minutes the car dropped out of drive and wouldn't go back in until I shut down and restarted. The battery still charges, and holds a charge when left parked. What is most likely the culprit before I bring it in this afternoon? The dealer is 3.5 miles away (about 15-minute drive in Chicago). Am I risking further damage driving it in? Should I call for a tow?
Update: A check of the inverter coolant reservoir shows that coolant is flowing. Ripples on the surface.
Over the past few months the contrast on my backup camera has been getting worse. It's gotten to the point where almost the entire picture is very hazy. I've gotten obsessive about cleaning the lens but it doesn't do any good. How to correct this issue?

View 1 RepliesI bought a used 2006 Prius Package 7 from an estate sale with only 37k miles not too long ago. The car was serviced regularly and looks brand new. It now has 39k miles and is due for an oil change in a week or so.
I have been having some problems with the reverse camera yesterday and today. I was so happy with the Prius until this issue.
Yesterday morning, when going in reverse, I saw a black screen with some faint outlines of the objects behind me with a moving vertical ribbon bar moving left to right. After turning the car on and off a few times and driving about 15 miles to work, it started working again!
It was great... until tonight. After accidentally overfilling the car at the pump (not going to that station again), the camera had an issue again. Same thing. Drove 15 miles home and turned the car on/off a few times...along with checking reverse mode a few times along the drive while at stop lights...and it still didn't work.
Is there any way I could check to see if the connection is loose? I've seen threads for modding the Prius and all, but I honestly just want the car to function as normal. Any easy way to access camera connection? Would like to diagnose if it is the camera or a connector.
I'm a new SoCal resident, so I don't know any of the cheap maintenance shops yet, but I figured if it's simple...I may just do it myself! Also, I live close to the beach. Would that make a difference on my Prius? My car just gets more dirty with dust/sand during some periods.
I don't think the overfilled gas tank correlates with the reverse camera. But needless to say, I have had better days with my "new" Prius. Been getting 45mpg steadily

Okay so I've got the RVC hooked up to my 2014 RCD-510 with the input for the RVC, only when I put the car in reverse, a message appears on the screen and the emblem camera doesn't open. I've tried coding in vagcom but I can't use the navigation settings since it's not a RNS-510 so there is no nav option. I checked the rear view camera under 56 Radio but that still didn't seem to work. What I can try to get it working?
View 13 RepliesI have a weird problem with my 2006 with HID headlights and 78k miles. When I turn on the headlights, the reverse camera turns on & so do the back-up white lights. I can clear the reverse camera by pushing any button, but the back-up lights are a big problem. No codes are being seen via ODB, everything else works great, and no fuses appear to be blown.

View 1 RepliesSo when I got my car a couple months ago there was this problem where the backup camera wouldn't come on every now and then when I shifted into reverse so I decided to get it fixed under warranty. the dealership said the problem had to do with the whole infotainment system or something so they gave me a whole new center console and navigation screen for some reason but after I got my car back a couple days ago it was working fine up until today where the back up camera won't even come on at all anymore. I've driven the car about 5 different times today and the backup camera never came on once.
View 3 RepliesI just posted last week that my check engine light was on and the dealer wanted to replace fuel injectors. But after the fuel throttle was cleaned and oxygen sensor was replaced the check engine light went off. However, yesterday the check engine light came back on. I am talking it back to the dealer, in a couple of days. Where can I go to get to get the error codes read so I have them before I go back to the dealer? Around 128,000 runs fine, around 40 miles per gallon. Last time I had the oil change dealer nothing came up on the 30 point inspection.

(while I'm sitting in the passenger seat of course). Better yet - is there a way to tap into the backup cam so I can record directly from that while driving forward? Is there a 'finger dance' I can do to allow this and override the fact that it automatically shuts off while in Drive? I have a 2007 (2nd gen Prius)...
