When I brake I hear a zapping noise coming from the left side. Is this normal or could something be wrong?

View 1 RepliesI got a used prius 2005 last month. Everything with it is good but the wind noise from the left side of windshield. I tried to tape many place on left, but the noise still. What is the source of the noise?
View 3 RepliesI have a stick shift Camry 2004 with 160K miles on it and I hear a popping noise (not clicking cv joint noise) coming from the front left side . I hear the noise when I drive off from a stop regardless of whether I am turning or not but mostly when I release the clutch after changing gears on second and sometimes third gear. I was told by a mechanic and a ntb tires and a former toyota mechanic it had to be the struts.
I figured what the heck ordered new mounts and struts had and I installed them and had the car aligned. That did not solve the problem. My next guess was the engine mount by the transmission so i changed that and still no success. The former toyota mechanic told me he now thinks it's the transmission but I am skeptical. How to diagnose this? BTW 95 % sure the problem started when my wife hit the sidewalk really hard (so hard I had to change the rim).
I have a weird noise from my 2007 Prius. It seems to be coming from the front left of the car. The car drives well, Tracks, feels stable at all speeds. It's just making a crazy noise at almost all speeds, it starts around 10 mph. It's a very DEEP ggggrrrrrrrrrrr. When the car is shifted in N it continues.
View 15 RepliesI just bought 2008 Prius (60tkm) and now i am wondering about noise coming from left front. It sounds very much like my older car breaks. High pitch squeezing noise. But it:
- doesn't appear immediately when you start driving
- doesn't appear on normal driving speed (> 30-40 km/h), or i just couldn't hear it
- does appear when driving very slow
- does appear when accelerate gently
Something with breaks? Sound is very loud.
Having issue with his truck. He bought it 3 months ago and has no history. 166k. You now know as much as I do about the truck! He knows little about automobiles so fact finding has been difficult. I have done all my own work on countless US and foreign automobiles over the last 30 years and never take my vehicles anywhere. I will try to post as much detailed info as I can. I have read tons of posts now on various forums so I am up to speed on VCT and phasers.
This one seems similar, but not exactly the same symptoms which is why I am here. I have already pulled the VCTs and found the passenger side missing the top screen. I swapped them from side to side which made no difference. I checked ohms and they were at 15 which is normal from what I read. They were very clean and moved easily when I took them out so they were not gunked up so I don't think that's the problem. It idles very smoothly and isn't rough at all.
I have posted a video of the knocking/dieseling noise (link below) coming from the passenger side. The knocking starts as soon as the truck is started hot or cold (outside temps right now 70F-90F Houston). I can make the knock disappear by gently depressing the gas pedal going from idle of about 650/700 to maybe 750/800 and it will go away completely as long as I keep it gently depressed. As soon as I lift up it returns.
If I rev it up to 2000-3000 rpm it does not knock, however, as soon as I lift off quickly, it seems to knock at a high speed, hangs for a second and then knocks all the way back to idle. However, if I rev up and then lift off very slowly, it will not knock. I have tried to locate the exact location of the knock, but doesn't exactly seem right at the phaser, but actually back around the 2nd and 3rd spark plug area, but I can't tell exactly. I've had a couple people tell me the same when I asked them to tell me where its coming from. The noise is bouncing around in there so difficult to pinpoint exact area.

I wanted to get some second opinions on what this could be so I know where to go next.
I have a 2006 Prius (150K miles) with a noise coming from the drivers left wheel. It is a hollow metallic squeak that only occurs while the vehicle is moving. It sounds like the wheel is making brief contact with something metallic at the same point on every rotation. The pitch of the squeak increases with the speed of wheel rotation. It does so while rolling, with breaks and without. The noise gets louder when turning right, and softer when turning left, though it begins to get louder again when the wheel is turned hard all the way left.
View 1 RepliesSo I have had my 2005 Prius for over a year now. I love my car but after 7 months it made a whining noise coming from by the pulley. When I would accelerate the noise would get worse. Engine light came on tested and said loss of power. The car would not go up large hills it was gutless. So I parked it. I recently just replaced the pulley and now the noise is gone. I have been driving it short distances and at about 30 miles per hour the car would sputter and hesitate. I would let off the gas and push down on gas pedal lighter and it would go fine.
View 19 RepliesIt sounds like it is coming from the Hybrid Drive. It is really loud. I can hear it as I drive down the road. The best I can figure out from reading forums is it might be some time of coolant pump the drive uses. It starts as soon as I open the door before I start it and it will keep doing it after the car is turned off.
I've posted a video with audio on youtube....
I just purchased 2009 Prius in June. I mentioned to Toyota that there was a noise coming from the driver side...perhaps the brake area. We test drove car again another day...no noise. I bought the car. Now the noise doesn't stop. And they say there is nothing to fix. It's part of a hybrid.
To clarify...I am not speaking of the noise when it shifts from battery to engine. Not that. It seems to be coming from the brake/accelerator area. But now someone mentioned to check out the stability safety-steering system.
My car is making a noise (video attached)It sounds like it's coming from the front left side while I'm driving.

I just got the car back from repairs, there was a loud grinding noise coming from the left side of the engine. It turned out the whole rack and pinion setup was pouring out fluids and needed to be completely replaced also while it was in there they checked out an oil leak which ended up being the front valve cover and replaced a dead O2 sensor. The car has 99,300 miles
View 6 RepliesI recently noticed a noise coming from the left side of the engine where the pulley's are. It sounds like a ticking noise coming from where the belt is. What the possible solution could be.
View 6 RepliesAlright i have one here to stump everyone.... My uncle called me and his 05 f150 STX left speakers both front and back aren't working. I took a look at it the other day, i switched his radio with my radio from my 06 f150 stx, then I switched my front speaker out. Didn't work. I looked at his back speaker and the magnet on the speaker was stuck in the door. I checked fuses and don't see any blown.
View 1 RepliesMy 2005 Jeta GLI is making some crazy noise when i turn to the left from the driver side I tough the problem was the axle so I had the front part replaced and the noise still there I don't know what else needs to be replaced ....
View 10 RepliesMy 2005 Camry started to make a, for a better work, "grinding" noise that appears to come from the left front side. It seems to appear around 40mph. Other symptoms:- the noise is not present when the car is in park even when revving up the engine- the noise appears to be correlated to the car/wheel speed - if placing the shift in neutral, the noise does not change while the speed doesn't change- if starting in 2nd gear, the noise only appears around 40mph when the engine is about 4500rpm.
Here it is a little hard to distinguish as the engine masks it- if switching the the 3rd gear, the noise does not change- if switching to "D", the noise does not change- coasting at neutral at more than 40mph still gives out the noise- when going over higher spots in the road (when the load of the wheels is reduced) the noise intensity goes down
There is no (or very low) noise at low speeds. Also, no noise when taking sharp turns. Had both front wheel bearings changed and the break pads, and the noise did not go away. I will be taking the car to a transmission place soon.
I've had some awful noise coming from the front drivers side of my car. Determining the likly cause to be the wheel bearing, I decided to tackle replacing the hub assembly as a lovely weekend project. Things were going along ok - Removed brake caliper, removed the axle nut (that wasn't fun), removed the rotor (rather persistently stuck on, but it gave in the end), and then came removing the hub assembly itself. Had a rented hub puller, put it on, started tightening it down and tapping on the hub as I went. It was getting pretty tight on there (was starting to worry about the safety of the cv shaft), and then as I tapped on the hub one last time, the hub and hub puller popped off the car... I was elated, until I realized rather than pulling the entire hub assembly out, it had actually separated the inner track of the bearing from the outer track, leaving the wheel bearing and flange behind inside the steering knuckle.
So, here I sit, with half my hub assembly on the ground and the other half still in the car. How to get the rest of the hub assembly out, now that there is nothing to really pull on? I've tapped around on it for a couple hours, and soaked it in enough penetrating oil to make the car flamable, but no give. I've even tried putting the hub bolts back in through the back and tapping on them with a hammer to no avail (probably going to have to replace the bolts now, but one problem at a time).
I have a 2009 KIA rondo with 64k miles. There is an unusual amount of noise coming from the front left side. At first I thought it may have been road noise. But the sound eventually became louder at higher speeds 60-70 mph. So I inspected all the fluids and motor mounts all are clean, not burnt odors and or bubbles. The motor mounts are not damaged. All belts are in excellent condition. There is alot of brake dust on the outside rim of the tire. Pulled the front right tire to inspect the caliper and brake pads. There is plenty of pad left and has normal wear, the rotor also has wear consistent with that of the pads. Pulled left front tire to inspect caliper and pads, thinking because of noise that the harmonics might be on the driver side. Normal wear on caliper and pads. So rotated the tires back to front, hoping maybe it was tire noise. No such luck there is still alot of noise coming from front end....its not a whining sound more a muffled tone that sounds like road noise. I don't want to replace the calipers if I don't have too since they are 332.00 each.
View 3 RepliesI have a 1999 VW and i have this grinding, wobbling noise coming from the left front wheel side. I brought it to the dealer and two other mechanics and they can not find why there is that noise.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2005 hyundai accent, 62000 miles. When I accelerate there is a vibrating/rattling noise that sounds like it's in the back left side. It only happens sometimes. It happens when i accelerate slowly or up a hill, and if i press on the gas it stops. I thought it was the muffler, but I got the car inspected in May and it was fine. It's been doing it since before then. My dad said it might be a loose heat shield vibrating. It seems to be getting more frequent with humid weather. Should I be worried?
View 3 Replies2013 Camry SE; I am experiencing a plastic buzzing noise coming from the left side of the steering wheel, the noise seems to be coming from the small compartment area (below the AC vent). If I press my hand against it, then the noise stops.
