A Rain-X wiper flew off on the freeway today.
It's the correct fit for my 2005 Prius, a
Rain-X 5079281 Latitude 8-In-1 Premium Graphite Coated Wiper Blade, 26"
Any tricks for keeping them on? It seems they might not hold on as well as one would like. (Can't examine it though, it's now freeway debris.)
I've got a 2005 Prius. Love it, but the "check engine" light always comes up after it rains (or the snow melts). It goes away a while after things dry out. For instance, yesterday it had rained over night, so the CEL was on in the morning. By the afternoon it was out. What kind of issue I could have?
View 5 Replies2 days ago I was driving to a friends house and it started to rain. I put on my wipers and after 5 minutes they stopped working. I pulled over and checked the fuse and it was burnt out. I had a spare 25A fuse and replaced it on the spot. I first check the horn since it's the same fuse connection. The horn worked ok then I went on with the wiper...the second I put on the wipers the fuse blew again not even letting the wiper make one cycle.
Could it be the wiper motors? What should I do other then bring it in. I want to do it myself.
what are the common problems that cause the rain sensors to not work. The speed one and two both work, but when i set it to auto the wiper will work one time but then never again. when i move the sensitivity switch to the left and then back to the right it will work once more.

View 2 RepliesI just bought a 2007 Prius a couple of days ago and noticed on my drive home the first day after purchase that the A/C got hot when I was accelerating onto the freeway and remained hot for a couple of minutes after that. I turned it off then turned it back on, and it blew cold air for a couple of minutes, then settled on a "cool-but-not-cold" middle ground. When I test drove the vehicle, I ran the A/C, but since it wasn't overly warm, I didn't notice that the car struggles to reach "cold" and mostly blows only "cool" air.

View 18 RepliesAfter one hour of freeway speed (60-80) the car slows down to a stop and red !triangle! light comes on. After coasting to the shoulder and waiting 10 minutes, car restarts. This has happened 3 times in the last two months (very frightening, but luckily it was light traffic). Dealer says 'no codes' and that there is nothing to fix!!!! What now? I can't drive a car that could lose power at any moment. Big safety issue....
View 6 RepliesI've got a 2007 Touring with 40k miles on it. Never had any issues until about 2k miles ago, when we started noticing noise while driving on the freeway. The higher the speed, the louder the noise. It starts to be noticeable at about 40mph and gets really annoying at 65 - 75mph. It seemed to come from the RH-side, and the dealer was quick to blame it on out-of-alignment tires. Dealer 'investigation' was about 2k miles ago.
We've changed and aligned the tires this week; alignment on all four corners was almost within tolerances (off by a small amount). I've also changed the oil, since it was due.
Nevertheless, the noise is still there; now it seems to have 'moved' directly in front of the driver. What could it be?
The navigation system always directs me to take every exit off a freeway. Should I delete all my "marks" in the system or is there something more I can do?
View 3 RepliesMy master warnIng lIght came on In my car.I took my car into Hooman Toyota in Long Beach, California. They did a diagnostic test and performed their MPI WORLD CLASS INSPECTION. While I was getting it tested they said the invert water pump was under recall. No biggie. Nothing was found in the diagnostic and the recall was fixed.
Two days later I took my car to Palms Springs. While I was driving out there the master warning light came on. I started to lose power but it seemed like the computer would reset and it would be ok for about 15 minutes. I even lost power in the engine. I finally made it out there and figured it just needed to rest. 6 hours later I took off for home. 10 minutes into it the lights on the dashboard came on. The car lost all power and I was stranded off the freeway. My battery was down to 1 bar. I left it there overnight and had it towed to the nearest Toyota dealer. They said I need a new battery and that theirs bad gas. They wanted to replace the fuel tank. I replaced the battery.
The next day they said that wasn't it and was going to continue searching. I ended up towing it to my mechanic. He said there was no coolant and the headers are blown. He said I was better off getting a new engine. Let me take you back two days when that WORLD CLASS MPI INSPECTION was done. There was an 8 page report specifying what was passed on the inspection. The battery, coolant levels along with other fluids passed. Not to mention hoses and clamps and about 30 other things. I feel something was missed in that WORLD CLASS INSPECTION. I feel they are responsible for the car ending up the way it was.
My 2004 Prius has its wiper arms currently sitting a bit higher than they usually are, we originally purchased the car like this, it isn't a big issue, just annoying as the previous owner purposely used smaller wiper size so they don't obstruct the path and what not.
Anyhow, I want to replace the entire blade, but I want to buy the original size, thus adjusting the arms back to the normal position they are supposed to be in, how I can do this? From my understanding in other vehicles, there usually is a screw that you loosen up, and than adjust the arm as you wish, just not sure if this is the case with the Prius.
I was on my way to work this morning when the car just stopped accelerating (or so it felt), all the dash lights came on, I pulled over to the side of the freeway (I was very lucky). Radio and a/c were still working. Powered off, powered on too soon a couple of times - the red triangle and check engine both came on again. Cooled my jets and gave it a few minutes, powered on and the red triangle was gone, but the check engine was still on. Drives perfectly, no problems w/either gas or hybrid engine.
View 19 RepliesMy 04 has a leak in the wiper fluid system, after running the wipers with fluid, the reservoir leaks and goes bone dry. The rear window never receives any fluid but the windshield receives its normal amount with no noticeable drop in pressure.
Here's the weird part, there are no visible signs of a leak. I poured 3 liters of water and watched it all drain, but there was no water underneath the car. My car is sitting on a slight decline in the garage with the nose slightly higher than the rear of the car.
I pulled the reservoir out and it is not cracked, the leak appears to be somewhere else and it seems to be collecting. I even moved the car and didn't see a puddle of water. What might be happening or where I can look to find anything? I haven't taken it to the dealer and would prefer not to....
My windshield wiper spray doesn't work. The juice just kind of sputters out, it doesn't shoot out. The tank is full, and the rear-window wiper nozzle works fine. What are some things I can do to troubleshoot this?
View 2 RepliesMy wife had a disagreement with the garage door this morning while trying to back my Prius out that ended with the little plastic cap that covers the joint of the rear washer being broken (It wasn't more serious!). I know it's a minor thing, but I take pristine care of my Prius and I'm a self-admitted OCD.
View 2 RepliesSo on my wives Prius which is an 2007 the rear tires are wearing more greatly on the insides that the outsides and they are wearing evenly on both the rear left and rear right inside. So not one is more worn than the other..
The tires are heavily worn, with that said the car rides extremely bumpy to the point the entire car is shaking on the freeway at 75 mph or higher. So much so it induces motion sickness which is odd for me. So also besides the alignment question, what else could be causing the insane amount of bumpiness? I balanced and rotated them yesterday but that didn't solve the issue.
Troubleshooting the wiper fluid spray system in my 2007 Prius. So today, after the big winter storm here in New York, I had to go out and run some errands. Everything was working fine, used the wiper fluid spray a few times during my drive to keep my windshield clear. When I was about to get home, I tried to spray the windshield one last time, but no fluid came out. Also tried the rear sprayer and no fluid came out of there either. The first thing I did when I get home is to check the wiper fluid reservoir, and there is plenty of wiper fluid in there.
I can hear the pumps whirr when I tried to activate the wiper fluid spray, (tried both front and back, both have the pump whirring sounds), but no fluids sprayed out.
I'm thinking maybe something got clogged in the wiper fluid spraying system somewhere. Is this something I can try to fix myself?
New to this forum as I just inherited my father's 2007 Prius. The rear wiper is not oriented correctly as I see other Prius's with the rear wiper arm facing upwards and mine is horizontal. When I use the rear wiper it goes down and across the rear hatchback area. I tried to gently move the wiper arm to vertical but it would not budge. Looks like I will have to get access to where the arm is secured so I can re-orient it. This tricky?
