Prius (2001-03) :: Replaced HV Battery - Error Codes With Triangle Came On
May 9, 2013
I successfully replaced the HV battery on my own and it was so easy even this girl to do it! I drove the car about 300 miles when I got the triangle of death warning light again yesterday. I took my 2002 Prius to the dealer to read the codes but how to borrow a scanner (or whatever) from Autozone and do it myself.

The red triangle warning on my dash recently came on so I am taking it to the nearest dealer on Monday. I think all of this is covered under recalls/warranty. Am I right?

I'm rebuilding the traction battery on my 2006 Gen II Prius. When completed, I'd like to erase any "error codes" that should be erased (I don't even know where these might be), and turn off the red triangle of death, the VSC light, the (!) idiot light, the engine check light and the maintenance required light.

I was able to pull codes this evening ( no subcodes).
The codes are as follows:
P3000, Battery Control System Malfunction
P3030, Battery Voltage Detective Line Snapped
Will the P3030 cause a P3000 to pop up since it appears I have one of the 19 voltage detect lines corroded or broken?
Once I fix this issue, is there a chance that the P3000 will disappear?
I was just getting the triangle and the Main Battery error on the MFD up until yesterday. Yesterday, the ! with the car came on (Hybrid system) on the MFD. I did not check any codes until today. Car will currently not start at all.
Aux battery voltage is confirmed to be 12.3 volts via the MFD in the diagnostic mode so it's good to go.
No one around has a scan tool that will also pull the subcodes.

So from the beginning the car wasn't coming on. It gave me error "p" said my parking break was not working properly and needed to be on a flat surface in order to work. We jumped it and replaced the battery shortly after that. The car will turn on but the actual engine is not turning on. The display screen has a little car with a red exclamation going through it. The dashboard also has all the lights on. We have tried to jump it from the relay at this point but it wont start now to where before it would.

A 2001 Prius is getting a warning triangle. No check engine light, and with my OBDII scanner, it shows there are no codes. I can erase and the triangle goes out, but it comes back on eventually. It seems only if the car is driven a long time/distance it comes on, indicating some heat issue perhaps.
The 12v battery is good, the radiator coolant is good, the inverter coolant is good and flowing. The washer fluid hose is broken, could THAT give the death triangle? There must be a way to have the cars display whats wrong with the fancy software and touch screen?

I just acquired our second Prius, a beautiful 2002 (Gen1 in the USA) with 90k miles. On the dash, I get the red triangle of death with the exclamation point inside it. On the computer info screen, I have an icon of a car with an exclamation point in it and it reads "problem". I have connected the OBDII reader to it and it does not have any codes. Nothing in the history, or in the current or pending. The car has full power and runs fine, but has the stupid RTOD.

I use a scangauge to monitor the traction battery in my 2001 prius. Today when I started the car to come home, the alarm triangle came on, but the scangauge shows no codes found. The car ran fine and got me home, but what the alarm is about.

The red triangle light and the car with the ! Light went off and these are the codes the local shop has found:
- P0121
- P3190
- P3191
- C1259
- C1213
- P3101
The shop I went to in Little Rock would not touch it. Need to put these together and diagnose where to start?

well I saw one other thread on this topic but no resolution. I replaced the hybrid battery like the codes told me too on my 2003 prius and it now drives great but as soon as it start it shows a problem and the red triangle stays on. No check engine light, no codes, no driving issues just a red triangle. How to diagnose a red triangle when there are no codes.

Our 2002 just ticked over 200,000 miles and now has the dreaded triangle and DTC P3006 (uneven SOC in HV battery). It putters around, but the MFD is lit up with alarming icons. I cleared the code once, drove two miles, and turned the car off. On the way back home it came back on. We have owned it a few years, the previous owner was a mechanic who bought it at auction, replaced some of the cells and flipped it.
I can access the block voltages, but they don't point to any obvious culprit. I'm also using EngineLink with a PID list adapted from Gen 2.. so the formulas might not be appropriate. I checked both running and engine off, and both times Block 6 was slightly lower.. on the order of .02v. From what I understand, it takes .3v difference to throw the code. Of course the only real test would be under load.. so I don't know what to make of this. But, am I correct in believing that P3006 specifies a problem in block 6, or is that a general code?
The DeltaSOC is 51%. Again, I can't vouch for the math, but this seems pretty high.

I replaced my hybrid battery of my NHW10 a year ago. now recently it shows the warning triangle. Once it went off after a long drive but now its permanent. is there a way to Diagnose what is the cause of this? If its a Hybrid battery issue, will it go off if i replace the bad cells?

Need to diagnose a problem with my 2001 Prius. I was driving it on the highway when suddenly the hybrid system warning light and the main battery light, along with the check engine light came on. I pulled over, turned off the car, and turned it back on. The main battery light error cleared but the Hybrid System warning light stayed on as did the check engine light.
I took my car into the dealership and they told me that the 12V battery was probably low at some point but that they didn't find any problems.
The error codes that came up were: C1215, C1241, C1259, C1521, C1522, C1558, and C1559.

I bought my 2002 prius with 120000 miles. Last night it died with the main battery light and triangle of death on. I haven't taken it to a dealer to have the codes checked out you, but will do it soon. My daughter was driving it when it happened and said the car started shuttering and died. She was able to drive it a few feet at a time before it would die again. Does this sound like a HV battery problem? I will be digging into it tonight.

I bought my Excursion about 3 months ago. So far I've replaced the Alt and battery all because it randomly die on me. I guess no the issue isnt the Alt or battery but an error P0231.
P0231 Low Voltage Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit
[URL]....
I've replaced what I thought was the fuse but not 100 percent sure. I cleared the error message and now it's still doing the random turn off. Now I'm getting an error P1000. Tried google search with very little success.

Was driving on highway in mild rain and car started to shudder and stalled. I ran it on the electric motor for a while to get out of traffic so it's fairly drained. Has a year old main battery and a year old 12V Optima battery. Car has 202,000 miles.
The cat code and possibly evap were on all year as check engine light has been on. I get the triangle of death with exclamation point on the right car icon on the screen as well as the check engine light. After resetting the codes the triangle hasn't come back. Haven't rechecked the other codes as it was a borrowed generic scanner.
Just checked the 12V battery at Autozone and they say it's good but discharged. Car won't start and it seems to kill the 12V battery if left to sit. I did the throttle body and MAF clean even though they both looked ok. A little oil in the intake so I mopped it up. Didn't work. I hooked up another 12V battery with jumper cables and it doesn't work. Checked the fuel pump relay and it's ok. I pulled spark plug 1 and it was fine. Check main battery and 12V connections -all fine - tight and no corrosion.
I'll try to check fuel pressure and spark.

I have a 2001 Prius and I replaced the modules with Gen II. It ran fine for awhile then the red triangle came back and the ICE would have a high revving sound and the brake warning light would come on. I can make this issue go away but pulling over and turning off the car and turning it on again. I pulled codes 3000 and 3006 and understand the problem may be uneven battery module levels. I have been driving it in an attempt to see the the modules will self level. An earlier dealer diagnosis also recommended a system main relay replacement which I did not do. It drives fine most of the time but maybe once a week the high revving issue comes back.

I have a Toyota prius 2008 with 130,000 miles. I kept getting red triangle sign, the car will slow down and will need to pull over, shut it down and restart. I went to the dealer. First they diagnosed 12V battery issue, so we got that replaced. The red triangle sign kept coming, so we went to the dealer again, they replaced transmission fluid. They said it was low on transmission fluid. The red triangle sign kept coming. So we went to the dealer again. They said it is transaxle internal problem. The diagnostic code is P0A37. I have a couple questions. In California, what is the warranty for Transaxle problem. In some posts I saw 180,000 miles, 10 years. The dealer said they called Toyota and Toyota does not cover the repair. It is a costly repair. Second , is this code really requires Transaxle replacement.

Last night I was driving home in my 2002 Prius, and the 'triangle of death' as you call it, went on. I got off the #405 and parked for 10 minutes while I read the manual which said get to a dealer as soon as possible. I started it back up and the engine seemed to be fine but the 'triangle of death' was still there, so I decided to continue to drive but stayed in the right lane.
I must have gone another 20 miles when I suddenly lost engine power, the headlights and dashboard were fine, and hazard lights worked fine. I was able to get to a safe place and towed the car home. Along with the 'triangle of death', the check engine light (little red icon) was on but I didn't get the 'Main Engine' error message.

I recently purchased a second-hand Prius T4 (2007 model) and I noticed that the red triangle exclamation was showing on the dashboard. Initially, my local mechanic found a P3000 error code and a B1801 error code.
I ran techstream on it just last night and the main errors that came out were:
Current codes:
Srs airbag B1801 - open circuit in driver side circuit
Air conditioner B1421
Transmission control - C2318
History codes:
HV battery - POA84
I also have just found out that this car was in a major collision in 2012. The air bag light is constantly on, along with the red triangle exclamation, on the dashboard. The fuses for the battery fan kit, horn, and air bag needed replacing (I think all three but definitely two of these).
