I've noticed that if I have the dimmer wheel dialed up to maximum brightness before the detente that puts the mfd back to regular daytime brightness (hope this makes sense), in about the next minute and a half after I turn the headlights on, the mfd dims to roughly half the original brightness.

It becomes difficult to see/read when the sun hits it just right...especially wearing polarized sunglasses. I have the dimmer switch set all the way high. Is there a way to increase the backlighting or have it not dim as much with the headlights on?
View 8 RepliesMy sister recently bought a 2007 Prius Package 6 with HID's. Her headlights will turn on for about 2-3 minutes then one will go out and then both will go out. If you turn off the headlights and turn them back on then they will both turn on again but only for a few minutes. What this can be? I figured it's not the bulbs since once they go out, they shouldn't come back on but I could be wrong.
View 7 RepliesI have a Toyota Tacoma 2006 which lacks all the gadgetry and techno-wizardry of the Prius C model three (which I just purchased). Yet the moment I lock the truck with the key fob, if the headlights were left on they turn off instantly, allowing me to walk away with peace of mind that I won't return to a drained battery. I love this feature on my Tacoma because I can leave my lights on pretty much all the time which allows me to pull out of the lighted parking garage in the evening without driving for multiple city blocks unaware that my lights are off.
My issue: I just bought the Prius C to work more efficiently consume gas during my 60 mile commute, and I'm surprised to discover that the headlights just remain on even when turning off the car and engaging the locks/alarm.
Someone told me that they supposedly go off after 20 minutes but I'm not comfortable walking away from the vehicle and trusting that this will happen.
Is there a way to ensure that the headlights go off when the car is powered off and the locks/security system is activated? If there's a "window" of time that it takes, can this be adjusted?
BTW, averaging over 50 MPG each way to work despite the "47 MPG HWY" EPA estimate...
My 2009 Prius headlights are turning off automatically while I'm driving. At first only one of them turned off, but sometimes both turn off.the fog lights remain on.when one goes off, its like it only goes half off. Then sometimes while the headlights are on and I used the right light the lights go completely dark. Why this might be happening?
View 4 RepliesMy 2011 Prius has delayed headlight turn off, which is nice once in a very great while. I have looked through the manuals but have not found any method to remove the delay so headlights just go on and off with ignition, like my 2006 used to do. There is nothing on the headlight/turn signal arm to adjust, so assume delay is "hard wired" into the Prius software. Of course I can turn headlight switch on off every time, but wondered if there is a delay kill.

View 4 RepliesWhen I open the driver door at night, the brake pump would dim the interior lights a little while running. Is this normal for a 6 month-old aux battery? All my trips are 30 mins or longer so it has plenty of opportunity to recharge.
View 4 RepliesThis afternoon, when my wife went to start my 2001 prius, it was dead. I disconnected the 12V battery (relatively new) and checked the voltage. About 3 volts. So I put a charger on it and hoped. After about 12 hours it seemed to have enough charge to try it, and immediately the headlights turned on. I jumped in the car to turn off the headlights but they wouldn't turn off. I honestly don't know if the switch was in the on position to start with, but it's definitely in the off position now, and the lights are still on. What's going on here?
View 19 RepliesMy (2001) headlights are always the dimmest of any car around me on the freeway. Is this a common issue with Prii? Yes, my lenses are clouded, but even when I clean them up, they are still dimmer (and yellower) than the cars around me.
Is this a possible indication of a problem with the electrical system?
I sold my really nice Gen1 to a lady friend about 10 months ago. The few months I owned it, it was fairly trouble free and all I did was have the dealer replace the whole rack and pinion steering assembly on an old recall (no cost). Also change the OEM battery to the Yellow Top Optima.
Now the new owner has ask be to look into a problem she is having with the head lights coming on after she leaves the vehicle. It appears that this is just the head light and not the tail lights, so I would say that it has something to do with the daytime running lights part of the light control system.
She tells me that when she turns them off each time it happens, they come back on again when she closed the car. Since this was running the 12v battery down, she has been disconnecting the battery at the neg. terminal. So that has erased the OBD codes and history.
I now had her drive the car to my shop and I am waiting to see if the lights come on. This seem to start happening when our weather got cold, into the 20s and 30s. Not sure it hat is a factor. But today has been in the hi 40s and the lights have not come on since the car was turned off.
Now, I'm going to go out lock the car and turn the alarm system on to see if that has any effect.
Ok. So i left work yesterday and realized that my low beams are both out. These are new bulbs so I checked the fuse under the engine hood. It had not broken. I grabbed my volt meter and got no current DC going into the fuse. Where the relay is located? This is for a 2001 prius.
View 11 RepliesThis summer my power steering went out. I replaced the steering rack with a remanufactured rack, which failed. I got the replacement rack replaced by the remanufacturer and installed by a different shop. Same problem: SEVERE vibration when turning hard right followed by the PS error code, or just little twitchy motions when driving. I'm having the second shop take a look at it again this monday as I suspect that this is a data processing issue.

View 2 RepliesSometimes when I get in the car the infotainment screen dims itself after a few minutes so that the information is barely visible. It usually comes back to life after about ten minutes. The manual mentions dimming the screen but doesn't elaborate. Is there a dimming switch for that screen?
View 3 RepliesMy steering wheel has a squeak when turning either left or right slightly from center.. I usually notice the squeak while stationary or parking. It's louder and more noticeable when it's hot outside.
Listening carefully, it seems to be coming from inside the steering column, not from linkages or joints from under the car. Looking for a exploded diagram of the steering column components, perhaps it's just a U joint (tilt?) that needs some lubing to make it quiet.
The headlights on my 2012 Camry are not automatically turning on and off. Is there some type of setting that I need to setup in order for that automatic feature to work?

This has now happened twice in the past month.
Last night my headlights came on as soon as I pulled the door handle. They were left in the Tunnel position(as they usually are). The doors were locked when I left the truck. Keys in hand. I had been parked in the rain, for 3 hours. It didn't repeat this morning in the dark garage.(they didn't come on til I turned the key, as usual).
