How long a 2001 prius can travel when the last bar on the fuel gauge starts blinking?Mine started blinking yesterday and decided to test it out.I have so far done 55kms(34miles),want to see how many more km I can get.
What's happens if the fuel is all used up... does the blinking stop, does the bar change to another color, is there some warning sound?
I've got an 01 that I recently bought with bad batteries. I replaced the 12V and the hv batteries, and all the codes cleared out. The gas gauge was flashing 1 bar and I got the message to add fuel. I first put 1 gallon in thinking at least the gauge should stop blinking. When it didn't, I added 2 more gallons. Still no change. After pulling the rear seat to look for the sending unit, we dropped the tank only to find that it's not replaceable!
View 4 RepliesSo right now I'm not able to start my Toyota's engine. I checked multiple screens and found several weird symptoms that I never saw before.
1. When attempting to turn the engine on, the square light that appear over the selected D, N, P positions etc does not appear at all and the 'Ready' light never appears. When putting the car into the Parked mode the square does not appear over the 'P' on the dashboard or any of the other modes and Ready light does not display.
2 . On the dashboard the fuel gauge is blinking continuously. Its showing full bars while blinking even though I have about 3 cars worth of gas in the car.
3. On the computer screen when I go to the Energy menu (The screen that shows the Battery life and the Motor and Engine working together) The battery life is showing as completely empty. But the battery should be working considering the computer screen even turns on. Radio also works.
4. The OBD II scanner does not get a reading. The scanner powers on when plugged into the car, but a "Linking Error" occurs when attempting to read any error codes.
5. On the same computer screen where the Energy menu is displayed, the Temperature gauge is showing an "E" instead of an actual temperature.
6. On the outside of the car I hear a very faint sound that I don't recognize. It could be nothing but its not a sound I ever heard before.
Also NO WARNING LIGHTS are appearing on the dashboard. Which makes sense considering the car engine is not turned on to show anything. I don't know where this issue is coming from?
I have a 2002 Prius with about 150,000 miles on it. A couple weeks ago, I noticed that the parking brake light on my instrument cluster didn't light up when I engaged it. Soon, all 10 bars on the fuel gauge started blinking. The seat belt reminder, open door warning, and headlight indicator lights aren't working, either. Any clues as to what could be causing all these malfunctions, or have I had more than one problem develop in close succession?
View 6 RepliesOn a Gen III. Just wondering, I know at about 25 miles to empty on the display I get a single blinking pip on the fuel gauge. Usually I'll gas up about 30 miles after the display reads 0 miles to empty, and put in about 9.75 to 10 gallons. I know I still have maybe 1.75-2.00 gallons in reserve.
Does the single pip keep blinking until you run out of fuel?
I have a 2002 Prius with 143,000 miles on it. All bars on the fuel gauge blink on and off constantly, the seat belt reminder, open door warning, and headlight indicator do not work. I checked all fuses & load tested the battery.

And some times the fuel bar just goes down and goes up. What is the reason, why it happens?
View 11 RepliesThis is 2008 Prius. I'm curious on how much gas is left with 1 blinking square left on fuel guage. I've driven 50 more miles since it started blinking. The car runs at ~ 47MPG on commutes everyday. The last time I had it blinking on highway, I filled up the gas in the next exit. My estimate was there were still 2.5 Gallons left when it started blinking. I have a gas tank with a few gallons of gas so I'm not concerned that I may be stranded on road.

View 19 RepliesI changed bad combination meter today and I noticed that everything works fine but the fuel gauge is blinking with all the bars! After a few miles the fuel gauge is still blinking but now with less than a half of deposit, I filled the entire deposit yesterday. Maybe is a consequence of changing the combination meter? Should I reset the fuel gauge or reconnect the 12v battery?
View 2 Replies2007 - I went out to start it and every light imaginable turned on. Fuel gauge and all gear indicators were lit and blinking. Headlights work. Is this a battery problem or something more major? It is the middle of winter where I live. It won't start up at all.

I noticed when I filled up the last few times that the last block on the fuel gauge started blinking and my miles to empty reading was pretty low. However, when I filled up the tank, it only took around 9,2 gallons. Doesn't this car have a 10.6 gallon tank?
View 19 Replies02. Cold a/c works but as motor warms up, compressor kicks off and light on button blinks. This started several years ago and simple reset button, worked as should. Now once it flashes it wont reset until everything is cooled down. . put gauges on and seemed normal sometime back. Its like there is a faulty thermostat that may be issue.

There must be other relays, fuses, or sensors I can check even though all fuses I can see are ok. How can I check the EFI relay to tell if it is ok?

View 10 RepliesI have a 2001 prius. It has around 105k miles on it. i bought it when it had 86k. I've had 0 issues with the car other than replacing the 12v battery in the trunk and its always run like a champ. Today though, i went to start the car and it started up as normal. I left the keys in the car for a second to get out and talk to my wife.
When i happened to look in through the window though i saw that the cars fuel gauge was all of a sudden flashing. The entire bar. (when i started it originally it had 5 bars of fuel) I got back in the car to investigate and noticed that the engine had turned off. All the power was still on with no triangle of death/turtle or anything else. only the flashing fuel gauge was on. I tried restarting it multiple times to no avail. The power will come on fine, and the dash will appear as normal. The motor just will not start.
I thought it might be fuel so i went and added a gallon just in case, but still no luck. Problem usually have lights that come on or the triangle of death.
I just posted last week that my check engine light was on and the dealer wanted to replace fuel injectors. But after the fuel throttle was cleaned and oxygen sensor was replaced the check engine light went off. However, yesterday the check engine light came back on. I am talking it back to the dealer, in a couple of days. Where can I go to get to get the error codes read so I have them before I go back to the dealer? Around 128,000 runs fine, around 40 miles per gallon. Last time I had the oil change dealer nothing came up on the 30 point inspection.

View 8 RepliesWent to dealership today for oil change, they said they didn't see any leaks, didn't see anything wrong, etc. The warning lights haven't went back on since yesterday morning. I'll keep watching, I hope they don't activate again.
By the way, for everyone who had a 2003 Prius, how many miles did you get with your main battery? The dealership said they usually go after 100,000 miles and need to replace.
At 130,000 they also recommend an engine cabin filter and fuel injection cleaning. Seems like an automotive store would be cheaper for the cabin filter?
I brought my Prius, 128,000 miles, into the dealer with the check engine light on. Runs fine, and checked the gas cap. Toyota dealer said they need to replace 4 fuel injectors, replace oxygen sensor, and clean the throttle body. Check engine light needs to be off so I can pass emission test.
