Prius (2001-03) :: Deactivate The Valet Key?
Oct 27, 2012
Long story short, I believe someone stole my valet key and I want to deactivate it. I've read the instructions
You can erase all the keys and start over by turning a working master key 6 times and then opening and closing the door 7 times. Then remove the key and reprogram again.Click to expand...
from Programming New Keys, but I'm afraid if I erase all my keys how will I reprogram it? Will it accept the first master key inserted to the program, since there will be none stored in the memory? Will I need to do the initial procedure to marry a master key to the ECU and let it set for 30 minutes?
This is a gen1 Prius, but I believe it uses the same interlock system.

I'm parking the car (gen. 2) a long while, so I checked the manual which shows the deactivation button on/off positions. It show the button sticking out more = the off position. However, the car symbol still blinks on the dashboard.

If you are tired of that irritating continuous beep while in reverse, I can take care of that for you. I can customize your Gen 3 (2010-2015) prius to only beep once while you put your car in reverse. Process takes about 5 min and can be done anywhere. If you are around the Vacaville, Fairfield California area, we can meet up and I can customize your prius for you. Hit me up if interested.

[URL]............... How to take out the transponder out of a non valet key? I don't wanna cut open the spare key without remote entry.

Bought the 04 Solara with just the Gray Valet key that has the transponder in it.
Valet key will start the car but not lock/unlock the glove box or truck lock.
Do I need a black Master key to program a new transponder key?
or can I do it with the Valet key since it has (I think) the same transponder chip?

I seem to have locked myself into valet mode. I have searched this, read the manual, tried everything still cannot get out of valet mode.

I am taking my 2012 Sonata Limited in this afternoon because while I was demonstrating the Valet feature of the trunk over the weekend, after I closed the trunk the manual key will not open it. I can insert the key into the lock, but when I try moving it right or left it does not budge.
I did not want to force it and chance breaking off the key in the lock, so I decided to take it in. Hopefully it will be covered by warranty.
I tried both manual keys and neither worked. I also tried the keys in the driver's door and glove-box and they both work fine.
I wonder how they will get into the trunk since the seat release is also in the trunk.

I've never been a fan of daytime running lights, useless option that shortens the life of the bulbs. My Audi A8L had an option in the MMI that would allow you to turn the DRL's off. Is there a similar option on the 04 Phaeton W12? Or is there a fuse I can pull? Or is VAG-COM the only way (I don't have one yet - not in my immediate budget)?

Can the beeping be deactivated when using the fob while unlocking the doors and/or opening the trunk? Cannot find anything in the online manual. if so, how is it done?

The blinker in my 98 Mazda B4000 does not deactivate when turning right/left. The multi-function switch was replaced last year with an OEM part.

My 2001 Prius now has 330000 km and was working fine so far. Problem: Starts but makes an odd rumble. When I put it in drive and step on the gas it doesn’t move. There are leak spots on my driveway. Could it be transmission fluid?

I just bought a 03 Prius at a car auction. the key was in it and it started just fine so I drove it 150 miles home with no problems. Parked it and tried to remove the key but it will only turn counter-clockwise to ACC, no further, so I can't pull it out. I took the steering wheel cover off, pulled the ignition out and once it's out the key rolls all the way over just fine but when I put it back in it still does the same thing. I've lubed it--makes no difference. If the battery cable is disconnected it will roll all the way over and come out but once I put power back to it it stops at ACC again.

My Prius is having issues going into reverse. Sometimes it goes in fine and sometimes it wont go into reverse at all making it basically unusable as it has become too unreliable to use on the road.

My 2002 Prius recently had an episode where the SOC went down to 25%, and then went all the way to 100%. This seemed to be triggered by being stuck in traffic in about 80º F weather with the A/C on. When SOC was at 25%, there was no response for about a 1/2 second or so when hitting the accelerator, and then the ICE would kick in, lurching the car forward. This seems to indicate that there wasn't enough juice to turn over the electric motor, yet there was never any turtle or any other warning light. The low SOC lasted until I was moving steadily, at which point it went up to 100% It stayed there for maybe another 40-50 miles of driving and finally settled back down to the normal fluctuations of 50% and 75%.

The red triangle first came on when my parents were driving my 2001 a few months ago. They described lack of power, etc. As the car was several hundred of km/miles away, I didn't have a chance to see it for myself until it got towed back (as they no longer trusted it to navigate through the mountain passes with several medium to long steep hills between the two cities) a few weeks ago. When I took a quick look myself (not a mechanic myself, just basic observation), the battery would drop "1 bar" with only very moderate use and quickly gain 1 bar or 2 when charged by the engine. Basically, the battery level is dancing between full, 3/4 full, 1/2 full, and 1/4 full continuously.
Mileage: 226000 KM / 140430 MI.....

I bought a 2001 Prius, partially disassembled. I have it to the point that I can drive it short distances, electric only and can really use the following:
1. A picture or description of how/where the ECU mounts near the glove box. It is currently on the floor with the wires connected.
2. A picture or diagram of the fuses/relays that are on the left side of the gas engine. There are a number of empty sockets, maybe I am just missing a relay. And I am missing the cover which says what is what.
3. I have engine light and triangle warning, and made the mistake of taking manufacturers suggestion to upgrade firmware and software of my code reader which was talking to the Prius and no longer can, so I do not know what the error codes are. I should have the code reader back in a week or so.

I have a Prius 1st gen and I just started having this problem yesterday. I started the car and the warning lights came on but the engine started. Then I put it into gear and the car stalled, engine shut down completely. Then I put it back into park and the engine started up again. So I put it into drive again and the engine shut down again, put it back into park and the engine started up. So I turned off the car and waited several minutes, started the car and put it into drive gear and was able to drive it to a mechanic. He said they couldn't get a code reading on it.

I have a 2003 prius that is missing the relay that goes in "ABS Sol" spot in the fuse box closest to the windshield but under the hood. I think the last mechanic who worked on it took it out to test and never put it back...

The air conditioner in my 2001 Prius starts out blowing nice COLD air, but after about 45-minutes to an hour, it gradually gets warmer and warmer, until there is practically no cooling effect. This happens every day. Day after day. My evening commute home from work is about an hour, so the air conditioning starts out perfectly, but by the time I get home, it's just recirculating the cabin air.

I have been riding my motorcycle for the last few days and now I went to drive the 2001 Prius. Car started and ABS and BRAKE is lit and won't clear. The car ran fine last week and no issues. I did have a strut loosen on the front left and made a metal to metal clunking on bumps. I had a shop use an air tool to tighten the top of the strut. Drove for a week with out issues after this and then parked the car for a week.
