I use a scangauge to monitor the traction battery in my 2001 prius. Today when I started the car to come home, the alarm triangle came on, but the scangauge shows no codes found. The car ran fine and got me home, but what the alarm is about.
View 11 RepliesMy 2005 Prius was working quite fine until few days ago when the dash lit up with ABS, Check Engine, red triangle, ((!)), and the red car symbol on MFD. Additionally, the hybrid battery fan now comes on once in a while. Mileage on car is 164K; changed the 12v and hybrid batteries at about 153K. Running it through codes scanners, the following codes were read off it:
* B1421 (Solar Circuit malfunction, passenger side. Also, AC malfunction [although on the car, the AC still seems to work fine])
* P3000 (Hybrid control fault, and cruise control error)
*C2318 (Low voltage error-power supply malfunction)
I have checked 12V status using the diagnostic mode this morning and found it to be 12.0V (although 2 days ago when I checked it was 11.8V.)
I have not used the car since as I wouldn't want it park up by the roadside. I'm scarred to think its the hybrid battery again... For now, the car still moves well. What should I check to confirm real cause(s) of all these?
I have a 2005 prius and I got a scanguage to read the codes. I have two lights on my dash. One is the check engine and the other is the (O) light. I think this is something to do with the regen braking. Anyways when I run the scanguage it says no codes found. What type of scanner would be able to pull up all prius codes?
View 6 RepliesA 2001 Prius is getting a warning triangle. No check engine light, and with my OBDII scanner, it shows there are no codes. I can erase and the triangle goes out, but it comes back on eventually. It seems only if the car is driven a long time/distance it comes on, indicating some heat issue perhaps.
The 12v battery is good, the radiator coolant is good, the inverter coolant is good and flowing. The washer fluid hose is broken, could THAT give the death triangle? There must be a way to have the cars display whats wrong with the fancy software and touch screen?
I occasionally drill-down to check on pending codes, and my 2007 Prius likes to generate a LOT of them. Maybe pending codes don't count unless they escalate to an active code that triggers the check engine light.

I drove the car about 300 miles when I got the triangle of death warning light again yesterday. I took my 2002 Prius to the dealer to read the codes but how to borrow a scanner (or whatever) from Autozone and do it myself.
View 19 RepliesI just acquired our second Prius, a beautiful 2002 (Gen1 in the USA) with 90k miles. On the dash, I get the red triangle of death with the exclamation point inside it. On the computer info screen, I have an icon of a car with an exclamation point in it and it reads "problem". I have connected the OBDII reader to it and it does not have any codes. Nothing in the history, or in the current or pending. The car has full power and runs fine, but has the stupid RTOD.

I have a 2008 Prius. I noticed that a large red triangle displayed briefly on the left when I started my car the other day. I know all the other smaller icons light up briefly but I don't remember the large red triangle lighting up. It and all the other icons go off after a second or two. Then the next time I started the car there was no red triangle. Then maybe the 3rd time I started the car, the large red triangle did again appear briefly. I took my car to my Toyota dealership but the tech said that is normal and means a door must be open, but that cannot be correct. I make sure all doors are closed and the "Open door" icon is not showing. I have already been through the water coolant inverter pump disaster so I admit I am a little paranoid about any funny things showing on my dash.
View 16 RepliesI tried installing a backup camera today. big mistake. When I start the car the yellow triangle shows up. and warning says check hybrid system. I try and put the car in reverse and I hear a snap, it slips to neutral and a warning appears that says put into P position. The only wire I tapped into was the red reverse light camera. I even tried undoing the install and I get the same messages.
View 18 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius and the red triangle showed up. It has less than 50,000 miles. I noticed that almost right after I start it up the hybrid battery fan kicks on. This leads me to believe that maybe one or more cells in the hybrid battery are overheating due to charging problems. Is there a way I can check this out without going to the dealer?
View 3 RepliesMy wife's 2005 has a Christmas tree of lights on lighting up the dash including the brake, the large triangle exclamation point, and the check engine light. The MFD says problem and has the little red car with an exclamation point on it. The car will only go in neutral and the ice will not engage. I borrowed a scanner (older Actron) from a friend and it shows no codes. I replaced the 12v battery with an Optima a couple of days ago (after having similar issues) and drove about 60 miles with no troubles. I rebuilt the traction battery back in July and have put about 10,000 miles on it. Should any OBDII scanner pull the codes?
View 19 RepliesI have a 2005 Prius with 131k miles. The check engine light came on. I had my mechanic check for codes, he had 3different scanners. There were no codes posted. Next day light went off. It has been off for a week. Now it has returned.
View 5 RepliesTwice this week I have received the Yellow Triangle alarm with the message Key Battery Low. This is the first time I have seen this alarm since I bought the car in August 2009.
I changed the battery the first time after 3 years based on recommendations from the forum. This time the batteries lasted just over 2 years.
I tested the batteries on both Key Fobs and they were both in the 2.9V range. The new batteries tested at 3.3V which is their rating. So ~2.9V must be the low alarm setpoint.
2005 with 123,000 miles. I have owned for a few thousand miles. Car was dealer maintained at every recommended interval. Car runs perfect.
After car sat for a week or so, I drove it and the red triangle popped up along with PROBLEM statement and take to immediately to dealer symbol. Red Triangle and other warnings repeats every once in awhile - will go a day without, and then will come on and off within a couple miles. Car continues to run fine. There are no other check engine lights. I have checked all the fluids and they are fine.
The battery charges fine, and holds the charge overnight. I have a generic code reader and there are no codes. I have read other posts, and there are always problems that seem to come with the Triangle. Gas mileage is fine as well.
The red triangle warning on my dash recently came on so I am taking it to the nearest dealer on Monday. I think all of this is covered under recalls/warranty. Am I right?
View 4 RepliesI replaced one bad module and seemed to run fine for a 3 or 4 miles, but now getting red triangle and a yellow exclamation mark with no codes showing up (using Torque app) and car goes in and out of a weak sputter just like it did before I replaced the bad module. What to do next.

A little history:
About 3 months ago I had an issue with the hybrid battery and replaced a battery cell which stopped all issues. About 2 weeks ago I replaced the coolant inverter pump and until today there has been no errors, CELs, or any negative performance.
This is a Gen II, 2007 prius with almost 200k miles.
Unfortunately I had plans that I could not reschedule and made the drive to the location and drove back. I had serious battery drain and it was almost always at 1 bar of battery, sometime reaching up to 2 bars. There is also the sound of a fan coming from the back seat, which I assume is the HV Battery fan, but it is on regardless of if I have air conditioning or not. A/C is working fine. When I returned home the battery charged almost up to full bars, but when I came to a stop the battery drained in about 10 seconds leaving me with very low power to keep moving. After that whenever I slowed down the teal arrows showing a recharge of the battery were gone and the battery seemed to refuse to recharge.
Steps taken so far:
I topped off my engine coolant in the front reservoir as it seemed a little low, but I didn't add much before it was full. The other reservoir near the engine was just about full and taking off the other cap showed coolant filled to the top.
I tested the 12v battery with my voltmeter which came back reading 12.7.
I have a 2002 Prius that needs work. The red triangle, PS, and check engine light are all on. It has these codes:
P3100 - 175 (HV ECU internal error. Motor Inverter Current Sensor Malfunction)
p3125 - 287 (Motor Inverter Finv. Inverter Internal Short)
c1259 (HV System Regenerative Malfunction)
I suspect the inverter or even worse the MG2 has burnt windings.
BTW the "infamous" inverter pump seems to be working. I can hear it and see the fluid in the reservoir move.
I suspect it is more a symptom than a problem and will disappear when the real problem is fixed.
My prius has 172k miles on it, yesterday i got the dreaded red triangle and check engine light along with the temp indicator on the navi screen. I pulled over immediately. after sitting for a bit, the lights went away except for check engine. I checked the engine compartment and felt no real heat anywhere. Coolant reservoir was full i drove a few more miles as i was taking a customer to the airport (i work for uber) and they came on again.
After sitting for a few again they went away and i continued on to the airport. on the way back home, about 40 miles or so later, it happened again. again i sat for a few and it went away and i took it to the dealership in my town. they have always been really cool there (an anomaly i know) I never before used dealerships for anything before owning a prius) and he pulled the code for me and it showed POAOF failure to start. that had actually never happened, but was told that it doesn't necessarily mean the car wouldn't start, it can happen while running.
He cleared the code, as i had recently changed the 12v battery and after reading a bit here i know it can cause some weird stuff so i was hopeful that would do the trick. so today i went out and worked again. Drove probably around 50 miles or so and on the way home it happened again. Back to the dealership. This time they put the main tech on it and he also got the code P0121 indicating the throttle position sensor. He took apart the throttle body and tested it and said it was showing not enough ohms or something like that (I know jack all about electrical) and that the throttle body was bad and would need replacing, also saying there was oil in the intake and it would need to be cleaned.
While driving to work I received the red triangle of death and multiple other icons on my dashboard. After a few minutes my AC sputtered off. After a few minutes it came back on. This occurred off and on the duration of my drive. I pulled the codes and had P0A93, P3193, C1241, C1313, C1377 come up. The fluid in the pump for the inverter is not moving when the vehicle is turned on.
