I have been riding my motorcycle for the last few days and now I went to drive the 2001 Prius. Car started and ABS and BRAKE is lit and won't clear. The car ran fine last week and no issues. I did have a strut loosen on the front left and made a metal to metal clunking on bumps. I had a shop use an air tool to tighten the top of the strut. Drove for a week with out issues after this and then parked the car for a week.
View 8 RepliesI'm also having an issue with these lights/buzzer on my 2002 since last weekend. Probably about one in every five starts, the brake/ABS warning lights/buzzer come on for around five to ten seconds and then go off. Braking appears to be fine. I'm thinking the brake system is taking too long to pressurize on starting. The car has run fine and brakes have worked fine after this has happened. Brake fluid level is fine. Do these warning lights/buzzer usually stay on, with an issue, or is this intermittent lights upon starting how it normally shows a problem? And yes, I am going to see about finally ordering a mini VCI and also read the blink codes. Dealer is 50 miles from home so I'm trying to figure out what is going on prior to heading that way, as I don't want to have an issue on the drive there.

I took it to the local dealer and they did a diagnostic, and they pulled the codes P0300, P3125, P0301, P0302, P0420, P3006, P3016, P3017. They said I would need to replace the the hybrid battery, the inverter, the catalytic converter, and the spark plugs.
I have a 2002 prius with 147612 miles on it and a problem with my braking system. When I turn on the car the ABS and Brake light turn on and there is a high pitch sound that beeps continuously. Sometimes after a while the warning lights and beeping stop only to return a little while later. I can drive the car when the warning lights are on but i have to press harder on the brakes than normal to get the car to stop and the braking system feels looser. However, when the warning lights turn off I can brake as i normally do and the system feels normal. This problem goes on intermittently as I'm driving.
I took the car to the dealership today and paid $143 for a diagnostics and was told that DTC C1251 was retrieved from the diagnostic computer. The technician told me that the ABS Motor is bad and because of that the car thinks I'm skidding so the ABS shuts off. He recommended that I get the ABS Motor ASSY ( Part #47071-47010) replaced.
Also, I read a post to resolve it by flushing the brake fluid. I checked the brake fluid level in the cylinder and it is at the max level and there aren't any leaks. Would that be an option?
I just hit a pot hole this morning. Not too bad but instantly the abs/brake light and chime came on. Parked the car and turned it on and off to no avail. I drove home while the car was very hard to stop.
View 10 RepliesI'm completely new to hybrids. I have a 2001 Toyota Prius with 146k miles and its been running very good until some weird things started happening during the past couple of months. When I start it up, the brake light and abs light come on along with a steady high-pitched noise and grinding noise (sounds like ice being scraped). While the lights are on and the sounds are being made, the brake becomes very soft/"spongy" and goes down to the ground without much force at all (It usually always does this when I start it up and sometimes - but not very often - when I'm driving). Sometimes it all goes off and everything is normal again after about 10 mins, sometimes all day, and sometimes only after a minute or two (It usually does it on a cold start, but sometimes even if the engine is heated up, it does it).
View 8 RepliesI have a 2002 Prius with about 150,000 miles on it. A couple weeks ago, I noticed that the parking brake light on my instrument cluster didn't light up when I engaged it. Soon, all 10 bars on the fuel gauge started blinking. The seat belt reminder, open door warning, and headlight indicator lights aren't working, either. Any clues as to what could be causing all these malfunctions, or have I had more than one problem develop in close succession?
View 6 Repliesseem to be losing brake fluid from the area of the ABS system and it dripping down on the brake lines underneath. Noticed this when draining excess oil from the engine (dealers!!!!). I'm thinking this has been leaking a long time. I have the worst luck finding a reputable mechanic anymore and if I can't trust a dealer...
View 9 RepliesMy daughter has a 2003 Elantra. The left tail light works but the brake light is out. I opened the trunk and removed the two screws for the cover and found the wire going through a rubber plug. Upon removing the plug, more wires and no bulb.
How do I get to the bulb? There appear to be three screws and bolts, one on each corner, holing the tail light in place. On the fourth corner is just a rubber-looking plug. Do I have to take the assembly out to change bulbs or am I missing something?
2001 01 1.8t... Hoping this isn't a bad ABS module. When I bought the car, I was told it was a bad wheel sensor in the drivers side. But, the funny part about this is its not on all the time, sometimes it doesn't even come on and the dash is normal.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 Santa Fe with the 2.7L V6. There is a recurring issue where the ABS and Emergency Brake light come on, followed by the fuel gauge dropping to E, then all lights dimming until they go out. The car continues to run, but if you shut it off it won't start for about 30 minutes, then it start just fine with full power. The alternator and battery have been replaced twice in the last 10 months, most recently 3 days ago. The problem persists. I did find the right downstream O2 sensor to have broken wires which were causing a short. I replaced the O2 sensor and wiring harness, which cleared all engine codes, however the problem does still exist.

View 3 RepliesLast week while I was on vacation I had the battery light and brake light on the dash both come on at the same time. Just as these came on I was driving through some water on the road from a heavy storm that had happened earlier in the day. As I drove through, the lights came on at the same time and I lost power steering as well, after about 15 - 30 seconds both lights went off and everything was normal. It happened again later that day as well, same scenario, driving through some water, both lights came on, and no power steering. The lights once again went out after a short period, 15 seconds or so. What might be causing this? I was thinking maybe the alternator is going bad but I have not seen any other issues, lights dimming or things like that.
2004 Santa Fe 2.7L V6 with about 94000 miles.
I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent. The brake light recently came on. I never use the emergency brake so I am not sure what it may mean. I wanted to know if any one know what this could be about before I take the car in to a mechanic.

Frequently, especially in the winter, the brake light comes on when the vehicle's engine is started and remains on until the car warms up. He have had the local Honda dealer attempt to locate the problem and our local mechanic as well. Both have said they couldn't find anything wrong. The operation of the brakes including the parking brake is otherwise normal.
View 5 RepliesWe recently purchased a used 2006 Prius. The vehicle has approximately 74K on it now. Well the other day my wife went to leave work and pressed the power button while pressing the brake pedal, and the Master Warning Light and brake warning light both came on. The car would not allow her to shift the car so she tried to turn it off and it wouldn't do that either. After about 5 minutes she finally got the car to turn off, and when she restarted the sequence everything went back to normal and she drove home fine.
We called 2 dealers and they both seem to be confused by the symptoms, but one thought that maybe the battery was old on the transmitter. So thinking that might make sense I replaced the battery with a new one.
my 70K mile 2005 passenger side brake light is sporadically dim (5 or 6 of the LEDs light up dim) and occasionally (but rarely) is fully bright. The driver side brake light and all of the other lights work fine.
Does this sound like I need to replace the whole assembly or have the electrical connections and voltage checked?
Also, I assume that the tail light assembly removal instructions that are posted for the 2007 are the same as for the 2005.
I have a 2003 hyundai elantra gt. All the lights and bulbs work, except for the rear left brake light. I've replaced it twice now, and used a bulb I know was good, so the problem is not a bulb. I checked the fuse, and the fuse is ok as well. When I measure at the bulb socket with an ammeter I get around 20 mA which I assume is too small and I assume there is a loose wire somewhere.
View 2 RepliesI just installed new front brakes and rotors on my 2004 2.7L AWD, and since then the brake warning light on the dash comes on occasionally. Typically, it will turn on when applying the brakes. Usually for a longer period of time to a stop. (Rolling up to a stop sign/stop light, rather than slowing down for a turn). It will either stay on for about 15 seconds or not go off until I hit the brakes again. My e-brake handle is all the way down.
