Prius (2001-03) :: 2002 - Voltage Leak - Goes Into Shutting Down Mode

I have a problem with my 2002 Prius when I was driving down the highway the master warning light came on with a warning display screen appearing saying that there is a problem in the Hybrid System and then the car went into shut down mode. I had it towed to the dealer for diagnosis and an estimate. The codes read were P3000, P3004, P3125, and P3009 they did not tell me the sub-codes read. Their diagnosis was the inverter needed to be replaced. The Main battery on this car had been replacing at 140,000 and there has not been a problem since the car has been well taken care of throughout its life. Being new to working on hybrids but not cars and electronics I figured I could replace it cheaper than the dealer price of $4200. With the age of the car and high miles 175,000 I figured it would not be worth the new part price so I got a guaranteed used inverter. After replacing the inverter I still got the same problem with no change.

So I decided I would have to diagnose it myself. The car starts and runs fine and starts charging the battery right away as normal but if try to but it in reverse or drive it fails so that means the short would have to be in the transaxle. I decided to test MG1 and MG2 for shorts and I figured I would need to use a megger to do this but I did not all three winding on MG2 test shorted to ground on the 200-ohm scale on a regular ohm meter. Then after closer inspection of MG2 cables, you can see a coating of corrosion running up all three cables. So the question I have is this corrosion on the cables a common problem for 1st gen and could it be possibly just a cable issue and not MG2 and can the cables be replaced without dropping the engine and transaxle???

Prius (2001-03) :: Warning Symbols Come On Frequently - P3000 Code / High Voltage Leak

I bought an 03 with 58K miles on it. shortly after I bought it the check main battery light came on, after the local Toyota dealer told me I needed a new main battery. I had a P3000 code, a high voltage leak. It turned out to be corroded buss bars and cables, with 2 leaking cells, $1,450.00 latter the onboard computer said the problem was fixed and my display read normally for about 1,500 miles before I started getting that code and the check main battery light again.

I took it back to the shop tat did the work and they ran the diagnostics on it again, checking the main power cables that led from the main battery under the car to the Toyota Hybrid system, inverter? Under the hood they checked all of the high voltage connections, they all checked out fine. The shop then took several days to do an online search for possible causes. This led to the CV trans axle with its electric motors and generators as the possible culprit. The car is running and driving fine, so I did the 60,000 mile transmission oil change, suggested by my mechanic ( apparently the fluid becomes conductive with age) the check battery light will go off if I remove the secondary battery terminal for a minute or so and stayed off for 2 tanks of gas after the fluid change but it did come back on.

I can reset the computer easily enough and it will stay off for 3 to 400 miles but I'm looking to get the damn light to stay off. I'm going to change the trans fluid again. Changing the drive motor or generator?, can this be done in the car? or at all? It may be that if this is the problem it may end up making sense to just put in a new CV transaxle.

Prius (Gen 2) :: Charging Voltage (READY Mode) Constant Or Varying?

The few times I monitored the 12V charging voltage with ScanGauge during driving it has been very stable at 14.0 ~ 14.1V for almost one hour worth of commuting time. Someone from another board commented that his charging voltage varies up and down and he suspects the charging voltage adjusts itself depending on the 12V battery SOC, and thus my battery may be so weak to require continuous charging at 14V.

Prius (2001-03) :: 2002 - Slipping Into Neutral Mode Suddenly When Driving

So I am getting really sick of my 02 Prius...it only has 124k miles on it. So what is happening now is that I'll be driving when all of a sudden the car slips into a neutral mode. The engine revs when I hit the accelerator but produces no power. So I pull over, throw it in Park, turn the car off, and when I restart, it is back to normal.

These are the codes I'm getting...I know this slippage is only one of my problems..

Prius (2001-03) :: Low Beam Headlights Out / No Voltage To Fuse

Ok. So i left work yesterday and realized that my low beams are both out. These are new bulbs so I checked the fuse under the engine hood. It had not broken. I grabbed my volt meter and got no current DC going into the fuse. Where the relay is located? This is for a 2001 prius.

I think the 12v agm battery is starting to go on our 03 prius. It wouldn't start after 4 days no use but did after 2. What is a healthy resetting voltage (with nothing turned on) for this agm battery as I'll check it with a multimeter? What is considered an unhealthy voltage?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2002 - Stuck In Sports Mode

Last night my girlfriend and i were coming home in her Sante Fe and it was driving perfectly fine. The check engine light was on, but it occasionally comes on so i figured it was probably just a sensor.

When we got in the car this morning and i put it in drive (automatic trans) it was in sports mode (i'm assuming because a "1" popped up under the "D")
And now i cant figure out how to just put it into normal drive. We spilled a tiny amount of soda on the shifter last night, maybe 3/4 a cup at the most.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 - Fluid Leak At Right Front

I own a 2002 Elantra GT that's had a decent repair record but just yesterday developed a leak that is almost exactly 18" toward center from the outside of the right front tire and 5" to the rear of the center of the tire (18" in, 5" back from rf tire). It doesn't seem to be a small leak and unfortunately I don't know what the fluid is. I've never changed the oil myself and have never seen the undercarriage. The measurements were made by marking the the concrete by the front tire then measuring in to the deposit.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 - Fuel Line Leak?

I was just curious is there a fuel line replacement that's pre-molded? Or do I need to get a roll of a certain diameter line and mold it my self? It's leaking right under the drivers door and it used to be pretty small but has gotten bigger. I can take a picture of the location if needed?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 GT - Vacuum Leak At Fuel Injector

I have an '02 Elantra GT with ~175,000 miles.

CEL is on, gives code about evaporative emissions control system, P0441. Shop manual says a)Purge control solenoid valve or b) vacuum leak.

Symptoms are very rough idle, strong smell of gas at startup, erratic, racing idle when starting or cruising to a stop in neutral.

Replaced PCSV, didn't WORK. Went looking for vacuum leak. Seems to be at the fuel injector that's on the end, passenger side, on the manifold side. There's a noticeable hiss, and when I spray gumout at the injector it changes idle. Replaced the injector O-rings. Didn't make a difference. What next?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2002 - Fuel Leak From A Black Vented Box

I came out of my house this morning and noticed a large wet spot under the back of my car. Upon investigation it appears to be a fuel leak from a black vented box that is immediately behind the driver side rear tire and connected directly beside the gas tank. there are 2 hoses that appear to be fuel hoses going into the forward end of this box.

I disconnected two mounting nuts and looked inside but it is an enclosed box mounted inside the casing. I can't find any info on the net or any illustrated parts lists. What this box is and why it might be leaking fuel? The box is rather large maybe 12 to 14 inches long by 8 to 10 inches wide by at least 6 inches deep.

I did fill up my tank last night and I "topped" it off to round the price. My car also parks on a fairly decent slope in my driveway rear end first.

Prius (2001-03) :: AC On Max Setting Would Go Into Stealth Mode

My 2002 Prius A/C is acting strange. From what I understand, if you have Max A/C on it will keep the ICE running. Lately my car isn't doing that. Whenever I'm at traffic with the Max A/C on it will go into stealth mode then it will turn the engine on then back off again in a cycle.

Also whenever I hit the brakes or simply slowing down with the ac on the whole car will shake violently like theres a strong earthquake and its about to stall unless I shut the A/C off. This only occurs when the A/c is on btw.

Note :: I've had my ac charged so its not out of refrigerant. But I don't know what's causing it.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2002 - Leak At The Bottom Of The Line Coming Out Of Reservoir

Notice a leak at the bottom of the Line coming out of the reservoir and turning under at the bottom of the radiator... Not sure at this point whether this is the suction return or supply , probably return, from the looks of the spring clamps used.

It appears that some steel line is used to make a 2 ft or so loop under the radiator before it goes back to the rack.... Cooling??

This line app. 3/8 " in diamater is supported by some rubber isolators, and no doubt there is some rust which has formed in there where the line passes through the rubber, small pinhole maybe??

Lexus SC430 :: What Is Normal Voltage When Fully Charged And Minimum Voltage To Crank Starter

After not driving the car for over a week, the battery was dead and I discovered that I had not fully shut the trunk. I hooked up a charger/maintainer with the battery still installed in the car and it has been on for 48+ hours and it still shows as charging. I have several of the chargers and use them on other cars/motorcycles where they work as expected. I've never had one take this long to indicate charged.

I'm sure others are using maintainers and wondering if it is normal that the charger does not indicate full charge. Voltage with charger running is ~14.7 and ~13.7 unhooked. I believe it is a 4a charger.

What is normal voltage when fully charged and what is minimum voltage to crank starter?

Should have measured the voltage before hooking up the charger to know low it was......

Ford A/C :: 1993 F350 - Vacuum Leak / Air Conditioning Shutting Down Upon Giving Throttle

Trying to track down an air conditioning problem. Seems like a vacuum leak somewhere is screwing with my AC and shutting it down upon giving it any throttle (hills etc). Where should I look first or is there a certain area that is prone to leaks?...truck is a stock 1993 F-350 460/auto.

Prius (2001-03) :: Bad To Turn Off Engine While In Warming Up Mode?

When I'm leaving the house and I pull out onto the street, I have to go close up a very annoying gate which takes a good few minutes to do. The car is still in it's warm up mode so the ICE is running the whole time. I know just turning it off would save gas, but would it be bad for the engine, to turn it off with the key before it shuts itself off?

I have noticed a mid-pitched humming noise in my '02. I first noticed it about a week after getting four new tires put on it. It is speed dependent, and is most noticeable at about 35 mph.

Somehow I have gotten it in my head that the car might be stuck in "battery charge" mode. I can't tell easily because my car has a permanent power steering problem so I don't have the charge/power car diagram on my dash. I can still feel a difference when I shift into "B" when going downhill.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2002 - Shutting Down While Driving

Our Ranger, 2002, 4 cyl. 2.3 5 speed is shutting down while driving. This has happened twice very recently. Both times on interstate at highway speed. First it loses power then completely shuts down. After stopping, turning key "off" it restarts and runs fine. It does take a longer time to crank before starting.

It is not throwing any codes and the CE is not coming on. I suspect the fuel pump is shutting down. Seems like fuel pressure loss is reason for loss of power? Then extended cranking to restart is the initial build up? What else could it be? If not the pump itself, is there something that would take away power from the pump then get reset?
