I have a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6 with 80,000 miles on it. Recently the dashboard warning "check gas cap" has started coming on. I have replaced the gas cap and cleared the code and it is doing it again. It seems like it is more likely to do it when the gas tank is 1/2 or less full but it also did it today with almost a full tank. The code from the computer said P0455, what this could be?
View 7 RepliesI had a code for the EGR valve stuck open. I tried cleaning it but it didn't work (and didn't seem that dirty). Then I tried replacing it. Both times the code came back. What should I do now? I reset the code each time by disconnecting the battery.
View 14 Replies2004 XC90 T6. Local Volvo dealer (Bangkok at the time) said my check engine light was due to the O2 sensors going bad. I changed out the one under the car, then my wife threw out (accident) the other so I didn't change the one accessible from the hood. The check engine light went away so I figured that was that.
Fast forward a year later, I buy an Autel Maxiscan MS509 and now I'm getting check engine code P0455 which is probably the O2 sensors I didn't replace. Other than deductive reasoning, is there some way to look at the data on my OBD reader to confirm which O2 sensor is bad?
Yesterday from the smart center of Rochester, MN I bought a 2013 Smart fortwo Pure with 19k miles. This evening the Check Engine Light came on and it is code P0455.
No other dash lights are on and I have not even touched the gas cap yet. Should I clear the code? Take it to the dealer? Tow it to the dealer?
I have a 2006 Pontiac Montana, The little engine picture came up on my dash. I took it to the car parts store to have the code read and it came up as an O2 pre-heater sensor. My husband has been trying to google how to fix it and can't come up with anything. It doesn't even come up as to where the part is located.
View 3 RepliesNow, I just bought a 07 Yukon which seems to be in a great condition. The check engine light just popped up so I went to a mechanic and he said the code is p0455.
He did a smoke test and showed me that smoke is coming out of the rear of the vehicle at the gas tank area and the car needs the vent valve solenoid changed, but it's only sold at dealer.
So u went to dealer and got this part and decided to change it myself which was quite easy and fun.
I went back to clear the light, then a week later the light came back on, so I went back to him thinking maybe I didn't do it right, so he did another smoke test and sure enough we see smoke coming out of the rear again, so I looked under the car and saw it was coming out of the end of the vent valve assembly which I think is a small air filter. Is that normal? Or is the part defective?
The passenger air bag indicator light got pushed in so I need to get the vent panel off so I can push the light back flush. I do know the surrounding of the radio pops off without any tools. But taking that off doesn't get me anywhere. I still don't see access to remove the vents.
View 2 RepliesWe have a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6 with the passenger sliding door powered. About 1/3 the time when we close the power door, it gets almost all the way closed and then it starts dinging and opens back up. Gets annoying when we just want to leave somewhere and we mess around with the door for 2 minutes trying to get it to close. We bought the car from a GM dealer and we have a warranty on it but they can't figure it out.
In my opinion, if they can't fix the door, they should replace it with a new one. If that doesn't fix it, then they should cut off that side of the car and put a new side on it. One of the two has to be bad. But I doubt that's going to fly with the dealer. They keep telling us they're "adjusting" the door to fix it but their "adjustments" never fix it. Where are the adjustments?
There's also sometimes I swear the door doesn't unlock so when we try to get it to open, it won't. Not sure if this is my imagination or if it's really not unlocking. Also the door rattles. You'd think the rattle would be related. The dealer says the rattle and the door not closing are two separate issue... but the rattle could be because the door is loose and the looseness is causing it to not follow the tracks right and then binds... I don't know.
I have an 06 sonata 2.4l--last week the CEL came on so I took it to my mechanic and he said it was p0455 which is a large vapor leak in fuel assembly. We tried tightening the gas cap and resetting the code with a scanner but it came back on a day or two later. I have never overfilled my tank and i do not smell gas anywhere. the only real symptom (maybe non related)is my speedometer , it works but it is just a little slow to react when increasing or decreasing speed.---my gas mileage seems to be normal.We got under the car and looked around and couldn't notice any obvious tears in any lines -- should i try buying a new gas cap?--I was thinking it may be speed sensor but my mechanic said if it was the speed sensor , my tranny should be shifting funny , my trans shifts fine. I am at a loss and don't want to have to go to dealer with this.

View 6 RepliesI have a 2001 Pontiac Montana that was overheating. It was low on coolant, and using coolant. I took it to a mechanic who checked it out and found exhaust gases in the coolant. He initially told me that it was a bad head gasket. After doing a bit of research, I am told that it could also be an intake manifold gasket. I know I am losing coolant, but I cannot tell where. I don't think it is going into the oil, as my oil level does not go up. I do not see coolant leaking below the vehicle, so perhaps it is going into the exhaust? Or leaking slowly on top of the engine where it is burned off before it can go on the ground.
Is there any test I can do to determine which gasket is bad before tearing into the vehicle? I thought about sending an oil sample off to determine if I am getting any coolant in the oil, but I don't know if that would be useful information at this point.
I have a 1999 Pontiac Montana that has recently started whining when I accelerate. It stops after I take my foot off the gas pedal. It usually takes about 15 minutes of driving before the whining starts. It started about 4 months ago and has recently become louder.
Van has 85K miles.
My van will rev really high when started and may stay that way for most of the day. Sometimes once it is turned off it will restart just fine. but when it is revving like this you have to hold the break down at stop lights, constantly slow down because it wants to take off. Now it is stalling when driving slowly. the throttle positioning censor has been replace a couple of times.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2001 Pontiac Montana van, when i drive i feel like there is just not enough power there. Most of the time when i hit 30mph the engine drops in power, hard to explain so I will try my best. I get in turn the key starts right up with out any hesitation what's so ever! I leave for work, while driving when I come to a stop sign and stop and take off its gets sluggish so while my speedometer is going up my movement is not changing as it should so needless to say I have to do 80 85 mph just to keep up with the average moving can at 70mph.
Once in a while I will give it some gas and let go of it and it would back fire a little not sure why. Recently I had new head gaskets put on cause temperature was not staying where it was suppose to be, they smooth out the headers and did a tune up, not sure about the timing, New fluids, once in awhile the temp would climb but that cause of the fans. Took it to AutoZone they did a obd code check came back with O2 senser and nothing else, so if I replace this will it bring my van back to normal running operation? And would it be anything I could check to rule out?
I have a 2004 Pontiac Montana minivan. I get a hard downshift from 2nd to 1st only when the engine is cold - especially noticeable in cold weather. After a mile or so of driving (or a few minutes of idling) is shifts fine. All upshifts are fine all the time. The tranny fluid level is fine and is in good condition. What it could be?

The two times we have used the A/C, after we push the button to turn it off, the engine sputters like it is going to die ... sounds like it is not getting enough gas. It has over 178,000 miles on it and it sat for about three years before it was given to us.
View 13 RepliesI've had a check engine light on in my 3.5 Pontiac G6 for awhile now. It's an emission code (can't remember what code but evap leak). The solenoid by canister was also tripping a code that disappeared after I changed it. However, the evap code still persists. Last night while changing my oil I noticed the intake air hose to the crankcase had broke at the case and wasn't connected. It's the hose that runs from the engine intake to the crankcase for the PCV system.
I am replacing the hose regardless, but my question is; would the intake hose for the PCV system being loose cause an evap leak code? I am thinking no but it'd be nice if it was that simple.
I own a 2002 Pontiac Montana van with 36,000 original miles. The past year it started making a loud whining noise that seems to come from the rear of the vehicle. It seems to be worse in summer than in winter. It iis really loud when turning into a parking lot or when turning sharply to go thru a drive thru at a restaurant. I have taken it to several mechanics and also to a dealership, and no one seems to be able to find the problem.
View 4 RepliesI flushed out my cooling system through the radiator with distilled water four times. It's a 3 gallon system, but I could only drain/fill a bit more than a gallon each time.
I figured that by the end of it, it's mostly distilled water so I only added antifreeze concentrate at the end. How long should I let the system circulate before I considered it well mixed and ready to test the concentration?
