View 11 RepliesI have checked all fuses, checked wires on top of steering column all checked out ok. Hazards work but when I press brake tail lights just blink with no brake light but the 3rd brake light works??? Signal switch maybe??
View 14 RepliesWhat can I do to fix this? 1987 Supra. No brake lights go on when I press on the brake, including the middle light. Tail lights do work, but no brake lights. It has been somewhat intermittent as well...
View 8 RepliesWe have a 2002 Malibu with 216,000 miles. Car in excellent condition and always garage kept. We have used the same mechanic for many years until this year when he closed his shop. We do plan to replace the car next year, but it's just not necessary to do so just yet.
A couple of month ago someone rear ended me and the body shop replaced the trunk weather stripping, rear bumper, light assemblies, repainted the trunk/bumper/rear side panels.
Several weeks ago, while hubby was pulling the car out of the garage I noticed every time the brake is pressed the backup lights come on too. I then checked turn signals, all other lights, etc. Everything else appears normal except this oddity.
I took it back to the body shop and told them what was happening and said it had to be something done during the repair work. He checked and said everything was hooked up correctly and I needed to take it to a mechanic because it wasn't anything they did.
I have researched and researched and found several other people with this problem. One answer was that the new light assembly was after market and the "pins" were not compatible with the original wiring harness. Another was that the wiring harness coming from the trunk was somehow damaged.
My tail lights and dash lights only work when I hit the brakes, or when the left blinker is on. When the blinker is on, the dash lights blink on and off with the blinker. When braking they stay on until I step off of the brake pedal.
View 1 RepliesRecently I noticed that my passenger and drivers side tail lights do not get brighter when I hit the brake. However, the center LED lights still are functioning properly. What might be wrong and how to fix it? I thought it might be the break light switch based on what I have read, but I would imagine that the center LED lights would be messed up too if that was the problem.
View 2 RepliesI just picked up a 2004 Phaeton V8 CPO with 44,700 miles from a VW dealership. My first Phaeton. 24mo/24000 b2b. The last few nights the brake lights have been on in the morning when I leave while it is still dark out.
View 7 RepliesWhat would be considered normal variation in idle speed? VCDs shows my Phaeton idle speed jumping between 680 rpm and 720 rpm fairly rapidly. I feel like the car is hunting too much at idle causing excessive vibration. There are no codes from the engine or transmission. Am I looking for a problem that isn't there?
View 6 RepliesMy passenger side front signal light works properly, but when I turn my hazard lights on it will not blink normally (the other 3 blink). Inside my truck when looking at my dash I see the small green blinking arrow for the left signal, but not for the right when the hazards are on. When using the signal normally, I see the small blinking green arrow for the right signal though.

Today I got the engine light blink a couple of times and then steady on. Parked the car, waited a few minutes, start again just the engine light on (not blinking anymore).
I scanned the car and got this

I have a hard time believing that all coil packs went bad. My wife told me that when she was driving the car she could hear a clicking noise coming from the trunk so I think this could the fuel pump not giving enough fuel but I was hoping to get an error for it.
I have a 2006 sonata and my alarm light on my dash board is blinking rapidly and then my blinker lights will turn on and stay on for a few seconds then it does everything all over again. My car has never done any of this except a slow blink in the red LED alarm light. I don't want my battery to die! Is there anything wrong with my car or is this normal?
View 1 RepliesI'm hearing a squeking noise when I go over bumps and when I i press the brakes. sounds like it could be my springs or some such related thing.. Could it be a different front end issue?
View 1 RepliesI have Toyota Prius 2006 with about 58k miles. For the last 12-16 months I encounter the following problem: when I press brakes, I hear knocking noise. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does it only happens when I press the brakes. Once I brought my car to a Toyota dealer and waited for an hour until my car was taken for a service. Mechanic found no noise. I tried to produce this noise but my car didn't want to cooperate. I don't see any messages on a display screen. It happens with power on/off and pressed brakes. What the knock is and how to get rid of it?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 VW Passat which i bought used from a dealership about a month ago. Just two days ago i was driving home, i was about a block away from my house when i went to indicate and nothing happened. The little arrow lit up green but didn't blink. My lights didn't blink. And there was no noise. I tried the other side and the same thing happened. I pulled up outside my house and shut off the car. When i turned it back on everything was working again. Then, yesterday i was once again a block away from my house when it happened for a second time.
Not having a proper blinker, in my opinion, is very dangerous. What should i do?
Also, my car is very loud. Someone suggested that i might have a hole in my muffler. others have said it's because it's a Turbo engine. But my mom's Audi is a turbo and it doesn't make VOOM VOOM noises.
I just get a hand of a brake blinkers module that when you connected parallel to the brake lights it will blinks and strobes like emergency vehicles. When brake is pressed, the brake lights blinks rapidly and strobes random pattern. It gives more visibility instead just stay on.
View 9 Repliesthe blinkers keep working and not working now they aren't of course.. but the left one only worked then something happened and the left only stayed on (not blinking) when the head lights were on. then it switched now they don't turn on at all. the fuses are good the relay is good all the wires are good I got new bulbs in as well and pointers. it's a Pontiac starchief 1966 and the flasher is good
View 1 RepliesI recently crossed 21 K miles in my Saturn. The brakes make a squeaky sound every time I press them. Is this a sign that the brakes need to be replaced?
View 5 RepliesI've noticed that when I'm stopped, or in park, and I push on the brake pedal hard I hear a squeak or chirp that sounds like it's coming from the wheels. It might even sound like someone is honking at you as if you were not going when the light turned green. I have not been outside the car when this occurs, so I don't know exactly where the sound is coming from.
View 11 RepliesI purchased a 2001 Prius with 123K miles about two weeks ago. I knew the HV battery was shot when i purchased it. I decided to see if I could rebuild the HV battery on my own.
I'm very mechanical but not the brightest bulb in the room when it comes to batteries and anything electrical.
So here is where I'm at so far:
- I removed the HV battery.
- safely rested it on 2 horses (I used horses because it would give me easy access to the bottom to remove the bottom screws)
- Removed all 38 modules from the battery pack
- cleaned the busses in vinegar
- inspected each wire that connects between buss and the nut.
- tested each battery ( one of the batteries tested at -0.1, the others tested at 6.8)
- I don't know how to load test the modules, so I couldn't tell if they would drop dramatically under load, so I ordered 38 used replacement batteries off of Ebay. (Gen II)
- these replacement modules were about a half inch longer than my original modules.
- The replacement modules arrived. I cleaned the terminals, tested each one and installed them.
- Connected the battery back into the prius.
- Installed new 12V battery from the Toyota dealer.
- The Prius started right up.
- Drove it around for the first time for about 10 minutes.
- When i was driving it, the monitor in the Prius would show the engine running most of the time but sometimes it would show it charging the HV and other times charging the 12V. the engine would shut off at stop lights and resume when I pressed on the gas pedal.
- while driving back into my driveway, all of the warning lights came on and the battery fan kicked into high gear,
- I can't remember the code I pulled but it was in reference to the cells being out of balance I think. I'll have to check it again tonight when I get home.
- I removed the HV and tightened the nuts around the busses hoping the issue would be resolved.
- I was able to drive it only a few minutes before the issue returned.
other issues I noticed.
While waiting for the replacement batteries to arrive, I did the following:
- changed the cabin filter
- did an oil change.
- changed the tranny fluid and removed the tranny pan to clean out the slime and clean off the magnet.)
- changed the rear brake shoes.
- changed the front brake rotors and pads. ( they were in awful condition due to sitting so long)
***when I pressed on the brakes, only the rear brakes seem to engage, not the front. I never attempted to bleed them because I know only the dealer can do that)
This morning my brakes seized up on me on the freeway. I noticed it when I pressed the brake pedal and I it would barely go down. Then, I could smell the brakes. I pulled over and there was a strong smell from the brakes and I couldn't press the brake peddle down any. I waited a while and let the brakes cool off and then they were fine. I got the rear brakes replaced at the dealership earlier this year.
View 5 Replies1999 Explorer XLT V6 SOHC.. I noticed today that my brakes drop nearly to the floor when I press on them. The car just passed inspection so I doubt that they brakes are worn. Master Cylinder has the correct level of fluid and the pedal is hard when the vehicle is off, so I doubt that the master cylinder is failing. How would I go about troubleshooting this problem?
