for the past few weeks Ive been walking in to my garage and my brake lights are on but if u touched the bake they would go off but yesterday they were staying on while i was driving and my trans seemed like it didn't want to shift.. i called the dealer and the said it could be my battery??? i just got the car about a year ago and i love it
View 3 RepliesNow the other night I opened the garage to find the brake lights (all 3 sets) on for no reason. I open the car and check that the light selector is in the Off position and YUP, it is..SO what gives?
I stepped on the brake and and lock the doors and lights are off. I come back an hour later to check again, and the BRAKE LIGHTS are ON again???? WTF?
I get in again, and touch the brake pedal (Pull it up towards me instead of down), notice it might have sagged maybe 1/4" before the light was triggered....
Checked the Brake fluid, and pressures and all was good. I get up this morning and brake lights were ON again!!
My '96 V8 seems to be inhabited by ghosts. These ghosts make their presence known by illuminating the brake lights at odd times. On several occasions during the last (very cold) few weeks, I have opened the garage to find the brake lights on. I open the door....look back....and they stay on. I sit down....look back....and they are off.
A few moments ago I started up to bed, and as I was turning off lights in the house, I saw an creepy red glow out by the garages. I had left the Phaeton out as it is dirty, and I am lazy. This time I had to tap the brake pedal to get the lights off.
With the car ignition off, the brake lights have been coming on randomly. With the car still off, I have depressed and released the brake pedal and the lights go off. Then about two hours later I will go out to the garage and the brake lights are on! I have driven the car since the first occassion and it happened again. Possibly related or not, the key fab battery is low as I get the quaint "battery empty" warning icon.
I have had my 2006 Phaeton for a year and half now and this is the only problem I have run into in 12,000 miles.
I have an electrical problem with the rear brake lights on my 03 Camry. The fuse keeps blowing the instant I step on the brake. I replace it and it blows immediately. So now i can't drive it because I have no brake lights. I'm thinking there is a short somewhere, where to start my troubleshooting?
View 4 RepliesHow the rear, high center mounted brake light (ie "3rd brake light") intermittently lights individual bulbs, but never all at once. It was also causing an annoying "Check Brake Lights" warning plus beep on the dash (on every brake). Till I get it sorted I simply disconnected the 3rd brake light which completely turned it off and just gave me one warning/beep (instead of lots of them).
I spoke to VW about it yesterday and wasnt impressed by their attitude, so last night I tried plugging it back in to see if it was still the same now that my battery should be topped up due to change of house and longer trips. To my surprise at first it worked perfectly, all bulbs lit up.
However the more I tested, the less lights lit up. It was quite strange, they would "dance" on an off right in front of me. Wiggling the wiring had a small effect, but it didnt seem to be a wiring issue. So I plugged it out and left it was it was (disabled). However to my annoyance on my trip in today, I start getting repeated "Check Brake Light" warnings beeps (remember, its disconnected so it should do it once only) and even more irritating every time the warning came up on the dash the front left headlamp would flash on and off once! What the hell is going on with the lighting system!
2004 with 214000 miles. Brake pedal goes to the floor, red dash lights are flashing, I just added a container of brake fluid and still no pressure at the pedal. I'm guessing master cylinder.
My question is: Even though my brake pedal goes directly to the floor, how am I getting the car to stop at the very end of the push? Do the brakes somehow work as a fail-safe even the the hydrolics are basically toast? I know that's a long shot, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been shocked over systems in this car.
A couple of days ago, my "Check Lights" warning came on as I used the right turn signal. After inspecting all of the lights on the outside of the car, I could see that the red led rear turn signal group was out (although it has sporadically come on a couple of times since then).
Just to be sure, I checked all of the related fuses in the front and rear fuse blocks, but they were all fine. It seems to me that this may either be a lose fitting or (since the tail lights are installed as one unit) I may have to have the right rear entire tail light group replaced.
Before I drop the car off at the dealer, looking for instructions as to how I could investigate further (open up the tail light and look for a lose wire) ?
In my 7, if I hit the roof console center light button, it would illuminate both the front of the cabin, and my accent lights in the rear cabin, allowing me to see the kids in the back at night or ensure they have light if they can't find something.
On the Phaeton, I have not yet been able to figure out how the driver can turn on the rear cabin lights. I have the lights set on to come on when the door opens, but obviously that isn't an option underway. Is there a way for the driver to illuminate the whole cabin from the drivers seat?
Got a bit of an issue with the cabin lights in the rear. I am able to manually turn on the lights by pushing the individual light buttons, however if I push either the 'door open' or 'rear light' buttons there is no response.

My rear taillamp brake lights do not come on.
Of the 4 red lights on both taillamp cluster, only bottom two red lights stay on when I turn on the head lights. When I step on brake pedal with both headlights on or off, all 4 read lights do not come on.
I only get the middle small red light on. (which probably means the brake light switch on the pedal is fine.) I do have the lamp malfunction warning on when I turn on the headlamp or signal lights on.
I changed the lamp malfunction relay (big red cylinder) but things are the same. Found the bottom right red light had one of its filament broken so replaced the bulb but things are still the same.
Perhaps a silly question but I noticed on my new 2015 RX 350 the brake lights that are in the rear hatch don't come on when the brake is applied, only the brake lights in the body of the car on each of the outer corners. I was following another new 2015 the other day and noticed it was the same. When looking at the the part of the taillight assembly that's in the rear hatch, it appears there are LEDs in there. why they don't light up?
View 14 RepliesI have an 03 JETTA TDI 5 SPEED WAGON with 216 on it. The parking brake alarm recently came on for no reason (as did the warning light) As soon as you move 50' it starts and wont stop until you stop the vehicle. I pulled the center console, unplugged the switch and it still did it. I jumped the 2 wires together and it still did it! I cut the wires at the point where they disappeared into the larger harness, it still did it!!! Why this is happening and if there is something besides the switch at the park brake lever that make the alarm go off?
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a 07 Expedition with light left front damage. After the repair I noticed that I'm not getting any power to the rear turn/brake, and backup lamps.The tail lamps and third break light work as does the trailer plug. I know that they were working prior to repairing the front. I did disconnect an aftermarket alarm during the repair. Basically all I replace was L/F sheet metal. Of cause I checked the obvious things like fuses and current to the tail light sockets.

View 19 RepliesPicked up my new VW Golf 1.6 tdi match today, am still getting used to all the functions and gadgets on board, but what a great car it is, I absolutely love it.
Basically when i apply the hand brake, the rear fog light and red (press the brake) lights appear dimly on the dashboard??? I have checked and the fog light isn't on at the rear of the car.
Also I have noticed that when I indicate right, the same red (press the brake) light and cruise control light appears on the dash and flashes the same as the indicator dash light.
We have a 02 Sport Trac that has intermittent brake light problem. All other functions for the bulb filament for the brake lights work! Turn signal and flashers work great. The brake light that is above the rear window works, BUT the brake lights on the rear of the Sport Trac work when they what to.
Right now I can not find a cause that causes them to not work or to work. This morning they worked in the garage but did not work as my wife pulled out of the driveway. Last night they did not work on part of the way home but worked coming into the drive way.
All the sudden last night I looked outside and saw several lights on my car turning on for no reason. My head and tail lights, my interior lights. I tried turning them off with the key in and out but that did not stop them from going off. they stayed on until the battery drained. Another on going problem is neither of the remotes with new battery's will work rarely. To unlock truck, or doors and when they do work not all the doors will lock or unlock with the remotes when they occasionally work.

View 6 RepliesBoth rear signal lights are out, so are brake lights. Driving lights work, so are high beam lights and all front turn signal lights. What should I check? I have done some research, but I could not locate the fuse or the relay flasher for my 2004 Malibu Maxx.
