Phaeton :: Permanently Turning Off TPS On Car?
Sep 29, 2011
Can I have VW turn off the TPS system and not have to run the "TPS" on my car?
Or, is this something I can do?

Following a storm last week, my car had a completely discharged convenience battery. The carpet in the driver's (RHS) footwell was soaked, and I vacuumed out about a pint of water. The right front sunroof drain was blocked, so I massaged the duckbill valve and got this working again. The carpet is now completely dried out.
I fully recharged the battery using a mains charger, but two days later it was flat again. I ran a VCDS scan, found and reset lots of fault codes for low battery. I then discovered that the trunk lights were not turning off when the trunk lid closed, hence the battery discharge. The measuring block for trunk lights shows 0% however. The power trunk lid operates correctly from all switches and the remote.
All other vehicle functions seem to be working OK. I have removed the fuse for the trunk lights temporarily, but obviously would like to get them working properly again.

Today we have 25F in MN and after turning on the car I noticed some weird sounds from the AC/Heating fan inside the car, like turning on and off, then I looked at the temperature in the dashboard (small display behind the steering wheel) and it was 136F. Tried to manually force the heating system, no way, 100% dead, no warm air. As a last resort I connected the VAD tool and got the following errors:
08 AC/Heating Electronics
Climatronic D1 1132
DTCs: 18
P/N: 3D0 907 040 G
Coding: 0000002. WSC: 0000
01273 110
Fresh Air Blower - V2: faulty [static]
[Code].......
Clearly seems to be something big related to the heating system, maybe the controller died ?
I have a busy family and often the kids are getting in the car with my wife and I. Perhaps I am just not used to the remote yet, but I am still struggling with the timing of the second button push and getting it to unlock the balance of the doors. I would prefer if the first button pressed unlocked ALL my doors and I didn't need the second press.
Is this a dealer only option to enable or can it be done with a via VAG COM? I have read the post about the "unlock all doors when turning off the ignition" and I am going to hopefully get the car coded to touching the door handle unlocks all four doors at once, but would also like this directly from the remote.
I was driving my 2004 VW Phaeton V8 (USDM) and stopped at a corner in the neighborhood. I then started going around the corner, when the steering just locked up for no reason and the battery light came on. I then shut down the engine and restarted it, making everything ok. What happened?!?
View 4 RepliesIs there any way to turn the dash lights completely out? I do a lot of night driving and would like to have complete darkness in the cabin. I'm able to do this in my pickup and find that I'm able to see deer, and other critters much easier without dash lights. Yes, it's important to see my speed, but most of my miles are cruise control. I also have an iPhone app that provides a brightness adjustable heads up display.
View 1 RepliesI thought it would look much cooler if the front turning signal light bulbs are LED bulbs. So I bought two, took the original bulbs out and put the LED ones in. It fitted perfectly but they do not light up. Don't exactly know why but I believe it's because the poles are reversed. Is there anyway to get it working?
View 19 RepliesPhaeton w12 ... I put new inner and outter tie rods on and new dust boots (the accordion style ones).
I am getting popping noises when I turn from the boot. It's been going on for a couple months now. I tried swapping left to right, greasing them etc nothing works ...
My Phaeton has pretty audible whine when turning the steering wheel. Closer to lock- the louder the noise. Can I check the fluid myself or is this going to become a trip to the dealer?
View 5 RepliesI have just noticed a high pitched squeal coming from the front end of the car when I turn left only. The more I turn left the louder the noise. It does not happen while I turn the wheel when stationary.
View 3 RepliesDriving back from Florida yesterday i noticed a slight grating sound when turning right at highway speeds ( 75 -85 mph). I noticed it particularly when driving through the mountains in West Virginia .
What it might be ? The car is very quiet (no radio on) and I am sensitive to road noises etc.
I've noticed this more on the Phaeton than the last two cars I have owned. When the car is warm and I arrive at my destination and turn the engine off, the engine makes a lot of little pings and pangs for several minutes. Don't know how better to describe the sound. Does this mean anything? Normal?
View 6 RepliesSo I've been driving around with ESP switched OFF which basically only turns off ASR and slightly dumbs down stability control. What I used to think was turbo lag was the damn ASR! It's like I've got a whole new power band that was stolen by the traction control system. What a joke! Who needs traction control when you've got 4motion?
Is there any way to permanently disable the ASR? Stage 1 is so much better without it. I had to pull a U-turn in the rain on an empty back street today and from a stop, I whipped an 180 from rear end wheelspin. It was awesome. Stage 1 has crazy torque.
I used the "invisible glass" product with a paper towel (since I was cleaning all my windows first) on the NAV/LCD screen and now it seems to be permanently scratched in many places. I noticed it on the first few wipes back and forth (maybe 3 wipes) and immediately stopped. Tried to clean it gently with clean water immediately and nothing changed.
The sad thing is the scratches extend beyond the screen so not only is it slightly noticeable when the screen is on, its fully noticeable on the sides where there is all that wasted screen real estate.
The check engine light came on today but nothing showed up in the instrument cluster to let me know if something was wrong.Gas cap(I got some gas just a couple of days ago but was wondering if that has something to do with it.02 sensor maybe. The light does not blink or anything like that but is permanently lit.
View 7 RepliesI had a new 12V battery installed on my 2006 prius last week. After this was done-my navigation zoom in and zoom out buttons are grayed out permanently; and the voice activation button does not work. I tried unplugging and replugging the nav system under the driver's seat and ejecting the disc.
View 4 RepliesI treated the AC vents with Lysol sprays as many youtube videos have suggested. The odor went away for the short time then came backs. How to eliminate it permanently beside using air freshener?
View 6 RepliesI listen to AM radio for traffic reports and local news. It constantly fades between HD and normal, and that is very annoying.
If I turn off HD, it automatically returns to HD if I listen to a text message, take a phone call, or change the radio station.
Is there anyway to turn off HD and keep it off, even if it is for short trips?
Recently bought a 1994 Toyota Celica GT with a 2.2 off of Ebay, for a good price mind you as the body work on it is very nice, sporting a "seamless supra" body kit as they called it and some nice 8 spoke unilug rims.
The car has been nothing but problems from the start, first- when they shipped it to me, the car had been sitting for a month, so they jumped the car with a semi. Blew all of the relays, took me a few days to figure out that dilemma (as I'm not much of a car person)
Once the relays were replaced, the car ran beautifully as a 94 with 174k on it does.
And the trouble starts, I changed the oil in the car- was about to give the engine and the suspension a total overhaul and baby the car up real nice, the next morning as I am driving to work the oil light blinks a little bit, but I think well maybe there was so much sludge in the engine that the Part-Synthetic High Mileage Castrol motor oil I used broke up some and it had a bit of a hard time processing it.
Well by the time I get off work, I start the car, oil light is on permanently and I am hearing definite lifter noise. I dropped the oil pan, cleaned the screen and made sure the oil pump still worked, and replaced the oil filter. Still nothing. I checked the oil pressure by removing the filter and turning the car on momentarily, the car spat oil out where the filter is and will spit oil out if revved from the top where you place the oil.
But then all of a sudden it wont even start, it will turn over- but it wont start.
I've got a 2012 base model Golf. The key fob does not work and I have to lock the car manually. The issue is when I unlock the car, the alarm goes off. Quite annoying in early morning hours or in full parking lots with people staring at me. I'm looking to either disable the honking portion of the alarm, or just completely disable it.
