The "car" symbol on the nav screen seems to lag the actual position by up to 1/2 block.... when I make turns onto another street, for example, the map will sometimes indicate that I am turning into the block itself (instead of the street that I am on), and about 1/4 mile later, it will mysteriously "shift" the car location back onto the correct street.
View 24 RepliesI got this problem that just seems to have surfaced within the past week. The first time I noticed, I started the car and the navigation showed my position about 12 miles away in the next town over. Now its been doing the same thing nearly every time I start up the navigation. I can correct it sometimes by going into settings/position on map and manually moving the cursor to my correct location. I say sometimes it works, because 50% of the time I can move the cursor to the position I'm at and it will then work just fine but other times the nav will have my heading completely wrong (I'm going north, but nav has me going south) and it will not correct. Sometimes it will just slowly drift off my real position and eventually it won't even be on a road anymore.
Tonight, no matter how many times I tried to correct the nav by moving the cursor, it kept my heading well off of where it should be, practically 180 degrees from the way I was actually going. So as soon as I started moving again the maps would be totally off.
Navigation system has been working fine and then today if get a screen that says:
"Unable to read data - Check if map DVD is correct"...
I was playing around with the navigation system of my 06 RX400H because I read about the motion override online; however I was being stupid and chose the wrong option under the "load" menu, so the navigation system kept telling me "insert correct disk. ". Hoping that I could find a simple "reset" option there, I was playing with the diagnostic mode quite a bit. One setting allow you to select the navigation unit start up logo between Toyota, Lexus, and None. There is another interesting option called "car setting" don't know what it does.
Seemed like it let you toggle between a numerous of settings, I remember one being 9001X4WD or something. I didn't know what the setting does and accidentally changed the vehicle setting for my navigation unit. After confirming the edit, I realized that the mapping for all the buttons on my panel completed changed! First of all the map button (which wasn't working at the time because I had the wrong load option) became the "Audio" button that is similar to the audio button on my other car, 06 IS350, it showed me all my audio presets and I could choose using the touch the screen (normally this feature is disabled for RX400H).
I realized I might have screwed up the setting and wanted to change back to the original vehicle setting. I couldn't find much information online, so I figure I probably hit that set button by mistake 2 or 3 times, so I reverted the car code back to what it was 3 selections ago, and bam! My panel buttons are messed up even further! Now I don't even have access to the "info" button any more! I can still get access to the first level diagnostic mode using the "display setting" (display key is mapped to the info button now) then left upper corner + left lower corner method, however I can't change the vehicle code in this mode.
I took the car to a local dealer, and the service tech was like "what the heck did you do" and he said he don't know how to fix this except to replace the whole navigation ECU which would cost thousands of bucks. I asked him it would be as simple as getting access to the onboard ECU memory and rewrite it and he said the data format is Toyota proprietary and the dealer doesn't know how to fix it.
Of course I wasn't satisfied with the answer I got, I took the car home. Following some good information on forums and navigation ECU replace instructions on AllData, I was able to remove the navigation ECU from the car, then took it apart, disconnected the power daughter board, pushed the black reset button(?), and then put everything back together. I have seem people saying this method working and not working, but for me it did work. When I restarted the vehicle, the "loading data do not turn off" screen came on, and after the system booted, GPS navigation is working as usual now. On e interesting observation, before the GPS unit has established a connection with the satellites (took about 2-3 minutes to do so), the default location for the vehicle in the system is somewhere in Washington D.C.
Now I have undone my "load version" mistake. However, without the "info" button being mapped to the dashboard, I don't even have access to the menu where you can change the "car code", so even if I know the correct code now, I wouldn't be able to enter it. also it seems that I was able to reset the ECU when I took it apart, I am suspecting that the setting for "car code" isn't store in the ECU but it is stored somewhere instead.
I have a 2004 VW Phaeton.
Today, the sound system failed, then shortly after, the navigation system failed.
On the console, if I press any map/navigation buttons, the error message "Navigation System Unavailable" is displayed.
If I press an audio related button, the error message "DSP system is unavailable". I took it to a private vw repair shop and a vw dealer. What was causing the issue.
I am now headed to a vw dealer with certified phaeton tech. I looked towards fuse issue, but they appear to be ok..
I have had a problematic navigation system that loses it way some times (loss of GPS signal). However it worked for sometime without problems till I dent my rear left side and had to be in the shop. I guess they disconnected the batteries and now the unit has stopped working. This is the relevant VCDS output. Most importantly I checked the adv measure feature to find the following statuses
CD ROM OK
GPS Antennae OK
Available Satellites 8
Satellites in view 0
GPS Status None
This was a clear day and so the unit is not picking up the satellites. However VCDS output shows no faults or anything.

How to set TPS to the correct position? I removed it while cleaning the throttle body, and now I can't seem to get it positioned correctly. The engine keeps revving its self while in park. I read AllData's instruction about starting with a 15 degree rotation to the right and then adjusting it using a Toyota hand held meter (which I don't have).

As I know that this in the correct position and that the motor won't suffer damage. I wanted they could send me a diagram to see better as it is or that I use of reference to put it.

I am assuming it must be some setting that its on because right now I only get the major highways & interstate names. All the misc neighborhood roads etc. show up but the name of the street does not.

Sometimes even major roads don't have labels. Is there a way to get all the street names to display? I've tried playing around with the settings but can't seem to find anything that will display more street names.
View 11 RepliesMy RNS 315 doesn't show much street detail in the Navigation mode. It just identifies the road or highway and occassionally a side street or two. It doesn't show the names for all the streets and roads. Am I overlooking a setting which would make all that detail appear in the Nav display? Maybe I need to check with my dealer to get it configured right?

I use to use a after market gps years ago that would automatically show the speed limit of each road or highway I am on if I was passing the limit.
I have 2010 prius III with JBL E7022 navigation. I dont know why i cant get the IPA system when i put the shift to "R" and the Auto Parking Assist pre support selection button right side the steering wheel is blank.

I was under the impression I could see my actual speed digitally displayed. But it seems to show in small print my average speed. Is there a way to make it digitally show my speed?
I am 150 mi from my service dealer and my 2005 W12 won't start . The dash lights go on , a/c vents open etc, but the keyless start or the key itself does nothing .
I recall that there may be a way to use the Accessory Battery to start the car, but I don't recall the routine. I don't want to have any local roadside service messing around. BTW it is the original battery and shows about 14amps.
Was just mulling over redoing part of the exhaust system on my truck. As it stands the original y-pipe is still intact but some bozo reduced the rest of the system down to 2.25 inch with an ancient glasspack for a muffler. Maybe he thought it would net some kind of benefit, maybe he was just throwing together parts from his backyard. Either way it's going, I'm planning to keep the Y-pipe but step it up to 3 inch with a Flowmaster chambered muffler and I just suddenly wondered if the position of the muffler in the system affects performance. If I put it directly after the Y-pipe the exhaust pulses would hit it sooner...
View 14 RepliesFor the past 2 days, when I press the button to start my Prius after it's been in the garage all night (mid 40s-50s temp), I'll get only the seat belt light displayed - or the seat belt light then the others will slowly fade in! And sometimes the entire "Hybrid System" indicator display doesn't show up at all. And it won't start or, if it does, won't shut off.
If it does start, and I drive then park and turn it off, when I go to start it after just a few minutes, say at the grocery store, everything comes on fine.
I started my Prius and the Navigation Display open on it's own without me touching any buttons as though it wanted me to load a CD. Now it is stuck in the open position and the CD player is making noises like a CD is stuck but do not have a CD in the player.
I have hit every button to try to get it to close, no luck. It is stuck on the FM station I was listening to and will change stations or to AM, CD, SAT. I turned the car on and off several times just stuck open.
How I can go about programming my smart key remotes to the memory positions of the vehicle? I had it all set up from the dealer and since then they had to disconnect the battery for something and now I don't have that feature. It was setup where I can walk up to the car and unlock it by the remote or door handle and it would put the memory position to that remote?

I insert it into the navigation system, the DVD goes in and then ejects itself a few seconds later. What am I doing wrong?
