Today when I head home I was getting the message "Move Selector Lever to Position P." It would come and go. No other lights or warning what so ever were lit. What this message was for and why it was displaying??

I tried to move it but with no luck , the message is still there and I also noticed that the light on the shift that indicates that I need to press on the break to start is not glowing. This is not the 1st time I had this error but before I had to leave it for a while and it will start ...
I really love my Phaeton and it has only 75,774 kilometres on , so it is quite new ...

I have a European Phaeton 3.2 litre V6 (gasoline) from 2003 that is giving me some problems. When I am finished driving I put the gear lever to parking position and turn off the ignition. I then get a message "Move selector lever to position p" and the key is stuck in the ignition.
So far, I have been able to get the error message away (and with that also been able to get the key out) by starting the car and move the gear lever around. Some times I have managed by only starting the system (by not holding my foot on the brake pedal). But tonight I couldn't get it fixed after numerous tries. I then simply waited in the car, because I didn't really know what to do, and after maybe five minutes the system shut down (energy saving mode?) and I could finally get the key out.
When I tried google the error message I found some topics about it on the Touareg forums, but they got the error message while driving and it had to do with the keyless system (which my car doesn't have).
What might be causing this problem? My local VW dealer is not very used to Phaetons (I am the only on in my town with one).
What does it mean when the PRND2 area all illuminated at the same time? Normally only the gear selected will be illuminated, but yesteday I got a solid bar illuminating all the gear selections. Couldn't find any reference to it in the manual. Shut the car off and restarted and the problem went away.
View 24 Replies2005 V8, 25k miles. This morning I started the car and heard a clicking noise in the dash right behind the keyhole. It was intermittent and sounded like a cricket as I was driving. It was not too loud, a few db less than a turn signal click. Every few seconds, the MFI message said "Place lever in P position" ... Nothing else doing anything abnormal. Car otherwise sounds and drives fine. The 4WD knob was in high for normal driving.
View 4 RepliesCan't start my Tiguan this morning. Getting the message "Move lever to P/N". The lever IS in park - moving to neutral doesn't work either.
Last night the girlfriend turned off the car while it was still in gear (she's used to manual). I've done that before though and never had any issues. You can't actually remove the key until it's in park anyway.
However now the computer seems to be stuck on the idea that the vehicle is still in gear. Not sure what to do. Guess I'm going to just keep trying it through out the day and hope it ends up correcting itself. I'll just work from home today/tomorrow. But I'm eventually going to have to get it towed to the VW dealership.
I have 2013 elentra just about a year old, (Took delivery june/2012). Recently some thing happen on the Shift lever, can't shift to "R" for back in parking, Shift to "N" is OK.
Some time it can't shift out from PARK to "R" or "N" or "D" ... Under any of this situation,car engine would not start.
Sound like the SHIFT LOCK did not release properly, or the Brake paddle position switch input did not send to Computer for engine Start.
When I park my car and shift the selector into "P" the car will not allow me to remove the key until I jiggle the selector. I get a "please shift the selector into P"
After it's jiggled it unlocks, and I can then remove the key. I would prefer to fix it myself, rather than take it to the dealership.
I have a 2004 F250 6.0 truck. My vent selector is stuck in the 'dash vent' position. I can't switch it to defrost, floor, or anything else. This past winter I noticed that heat would blow well but only through the dash vents. Now that summer is well underway I noticed that the AC blows through the dash vents also, but it doesn't blow very cold. I checked the freon, topped it off (didn't overfill), and still have the same issue. I checked the fuses and all are good also.
Of course, moving the selector to Max AC doesn't work either. Does this all point to the blend door motor? I hope not as the reading I have done means that this is one tough project to tackle.
Left the car for a couple of days outside... and tried to start it latter at -38 C. No matter how convincing I was - the engine wouldn't run. Well, now both batteries are dead... I have no luck in engaging the gear lever into N position so we can tow it into a flatbad truck... any one knows how to do it with no power? Also is there a way to manually open up a trunk of the car?
There is seems to be some weird electrical issue... while car just sits in a parking lot - batteries are drained out of juice... if its driven even for a small period of time - everything seems to be ok. Thats a first real let down from this car.
I'm getting a service now message on my display but no other warnings. Why this would be coming on?
View 7 RepliesI can not start the car by pressing the Start / Stop button. The display shows the message "Key Non found". Remote control key with normally opens and closes the car but the car itself does not open the approach to it. I have two keys and the two are the same.
View 7 RepliesI have had this 2004 Phaeton since 2006. No problems and only 72k miles. Over the last month I have had three occasions where upon start the gear display [PRNDS] in the center display of the dash board lights up solid orange (unlike the orange boarder with clear inside). The car shifts into reverse and into drive but seems to stay stuck in 2nd gear.
This is now happening about 50% of the time I start the car. When the display is normal the car and transmission appear fine.
Auto trans. The Overdrive light flashes on the Selector lever. Never stops. I put tape over it because it is annoying. Especially at night. It goes into overdrive no problem.
A Couple of times it did not flash and was stuck in first till I manually shifted. Then the light started flashing again and works normal. What now......RPM Sensor?
I am looking at a used 2003 X with a 140k miles. The truck is very clean and seems mechanically sound. This will be my third X! The only problem I found is the trans selector is difficult to move. Once driving the trans seems fine. No leaks anywhere. I believe this is cable actuated? Is this something minor or should I run away?

View 2 RepliesI am just about committed to purchasing a 1997 Ford E350 extended cargo van with the 5.4. The transmission shifts through all the gears nice and firm (reverse also works). The only issue with the van is the column selector lever is very hard to move between the entire range of PRND21. It also does not "click" into the selected positions, you have to just line up the pointer to the desired gear selection.
Is this a complete deal breaker (internal transmission issue/replacement necessary) or, is it something relatively simple (such as a worn selector cable). The owner did admit the van has been sitting for sometime. It has 134,000 miles on it.
This past Sat, when I started the car in the morning, noticed that the Gear selector indicator in the MFD is stuck. The display background is reversed and moving gears does not change the display, in the regular or sports mode. When I go from P to R (or D), I occasionally have a jerk. I drove the car car a bit since and no other apparent issues. It is a Triptronic.

View 1 RepliesThe gear selector on my 2005 Mazda 3 with automatic transmission is difficult to move between P, R, N, and D positions. It does not "click" or fall into position like it used to. It has gradually gotten worse. When the car is in Park, it seems to not want to go all the way up into the Park slot. Even though the car actually parked, the P will not light up on the dashboard, which sometimes causes the car not to start when the key is turned. So sometimes I have to put it in Neutral to start.
Now the problem is that when it is in Drive, it will "fall out of gear". I put that in quotes because it is still in drive, but it was shift up to a higher gear if i don't physically pull the gear selector knob back. For example, if i'm driving and the car is in 4th gear going 60mph, and the shifter know slides up an eight of an inch, the D light will go off and the car will move into a higher gear (not sure which one, feels like 2nd or 3rd) and the engine will rev up. It doesn't feel like neutral.
Is there anything I can do myself? I plan on trading in the car in the next couple months, but I'd prefer to not have to get it worked on until then.
I have a 2003 f250 and I am unable to rotate the hubs from automatic. I have removed them and while I had them apart, I was still unable to rotate the selector. It wouldn't turn even with a crescent wrench putting pressure on it. I repacked them with grease and reinstalled and they still work when in 4 wheel drive. I am just concerned that when the vacuum does go out, I will not get the hubs to manually lock in.
