Why my Phaeton cannot tell me which lightbulb has failed when Mrs AG's Audi A4, which is older, can? It just says check light and more often than not, goes off again after a couple of days as in the latest episode. Am I missing something, or is that just the way it is? I do not have a VCDS.
View 7 RepliesGot the cornering lamp failure (AFS) warning this morning. How easy this is to replace and what the bulb part number is. Did some searching and found that it might be an H7 bulb. Is that correct? Would like to avoid a trip to the dealer if this is pretty easy to replace.

View 1 RepliesI have been to the dealer 3 times so far because of something to do with the lighting system. The MFD says "AFS Inoperative" and the indicator light flashes for bulb failure or malfunction in the adaptive front lights system.
The dealer has replaced a bulb and power module thus far, but it hasn't fixed the malfunction. The indicator light and warning comes on 4 out of 5 times I drive the car and usually within the first few minutes of driving. It occurs with our without the lights on.
The lights do work at all times, but I don't think the adaptive steering/lighting is working when the error occurs.
I have read all 11 pages of the led light post, and I am more confused then when I started. I bought Ed's opt.4 lights with the LED's. I bought the light kit he recommended: [URL] .... with H7 harness. I have 2012 North American TDI Golf. I purchased and had installed the Bold eruo light switch with light sensor kit. I had someone install everything for me. They have had trouble finding out the proper codes needed. The issues I am having are:
1: with the above set up, they can not get the light bulb out warning light to go out. I was told that it is due to the light kit purchased above, and the fact that it only connects to the drivers side harness, and not the passenger side, so the warning light on my car keeps saying there is a bulb out on the right side.
2: With the euro switch in the Auto position, I get no DRL's at all. The only way I get that is if I turn the switch to the next position, and then I get the low beams, as well as the LED's, and no fogs. This stays the same day or night with the light switch in this position. To get the fogs as well, I turn the knob one more turn, and pull it out, and this gives me the fogs as well as the low beams and LED's.
My questions are:
1: can I get the LED's as DRL's in the Auto position or in the position next to it, and then have the rest of the lights come on automatically at night via the sensor? If so, what are the vagcom codes I would need?
2: Is there anyway to get the bulb out warning light to go away without putting in a different light kit. I was told by the installer that they had to try a few light kits to get one to work with the coding of the vw, and the kit they use connects with two harnesses(one for each head light, and not one harness for both as my set up is).
Driving to work this morning my 'please check lights' warning came on and sure enough my drivers side side light bulb seems to have failed.
Trying to look via search and many threads to see how much work is involved to replace this tiny bulb. The car is due a service shortly and i could get the VW dealer to sort this out but is this going to be something daft like 3hours labour/bumper removal or is it an easy DIY?
This is the first thing to 'fail' in 2.5 years of owenership and not one that needs immediate remedy but would like to sort it out. Presumably i can buy the bulb cheaply enough from VW or Halfords as its not HID etc.
I had my Passat (2006) for a couple of weeks now and this message comes up on the dash warning: "AFS inoperative". The bulb failure light was flashing as well. I have the bi-xenon lights.
The L/H bulb was changed and the warning and the bulb failure light is still there, but both headlights are working now. The major drama is that the lights are now dipped and at night we can only see about 20m in front of the car. The lights don't do the start up dance as normal.
The ESP light to come on while cruising on dry pavement and then the burnt bulb light to come on. They both stayed on until the engine is restarted. I had 3 incidents with the same behavior so far in a month and they stayed on for the duration of the trip.
View 1 RepliesThe "Bulb Warning" light came on in my 07 B6 Wagon. Checked all the lights and no bulbs are out, but when I switch to Hi Beams they both come on and then a few seconds later they go off. Need to pull the stalk back and then put them on again, but again in a few seconds they go off and revert to low beams. I have the HID headlights, but the Hi Beams are conventional.
What may be causing this? If it's a bad bulb, is it possible to change just the conventional Hi Beam bulbs myself??
I've installed six LED bulbs in the rear of my 2011 Tiguan (brake and running) and now the "bulb out" warning light comes on intermittently.
I don't need to solve this via resistors, new relay, etc. I just want to disable the warning light. Do this can be done via VAG-COM?
Alright riddle me this my friends. Have an 04 V8 with about 6000 miles. This evening I was leaving a friends house and I turn on the ignition and I get a warning light indicating a bulb is out. Well it was my passenger side main beam! I thought xenons were to last much longer than standard bulbs.
Well anyway I go and get some dinner, and on the way out of the restaurant I hit the button and both lights come on! So they now seem to work fine, but why did the one bulb shut down for a while?
I noticed that both of my high beam bulbs turned yellowish inside. I think it's the time to change them. I want to get rid off the halogen bulbs and use after market xenon bulbs to replace them. What brand is the best and what do I need to be careful with? Also what size are the bulbs? I have the NAR headlights. I don't have the dual xenon headlights.

View 1 RepliesWithin the past two weeks i've had a warning light that came on. it has come on about 4 times once 2 times within about 5 minutes. the warning comes up on the display screen on the dashboard and says STOP then brake failure then service manual. i've already taken it to a dealer to get it checked out and it came back with nothing. that was after the second time it happened. it has since happened again. it seems to only be happening on cold mornings. i don't know if this has and effect.

View 2 RepliesI got a loud beep and MFI warning "Brake Light Failure" indicating my bulb was out in the right rear brake light. A friend was behind me, I called his cell phone and he said, yup, its out. Then after a few mins of driving, the warning went off and the brake light was again functioning. This has then happened to me twice more over the course of about a week. The brake light still works, but I get a failure and warning sporadically.
View 2 RepliesSo, last night, a warning light showed up that pointed to a bad headlamp. I have a 2012 SEL with Xenon lights. When I first start the car, they both work. But then after a minute or so the passenger side lamp goes out and the warning light comes on. Each time I first start the car, same thing. Both work, then passenger side goes out. I had Xenon lamps on my 2000 A4 for over 12 years with not a single problem. Though those were not the bi-xenon with the Adaptive auto following lamps.
View 7 RepliesFor several months I would intermittently get a message saying "Bulb failure, Low beam". It would go off and not reappear for a few weeks and then it got to where the message would come on and after a few hours it would go off and then reappear a few days later. Since the time frame was getting shorter and shorter between message appearances I decided it needed to be looked at.
The Volvo dealer just replaced the light bulb. After about a week, the message reappeared.
Long story short, I had the right headlight ballast (headlight igniter) replaced and a new ($230.00) right side Xenon bulb replaced. Neither of these actions has corrected the problem, although the mechanic that did the work said he did a scan on all systems and everything in the car was in good shape. I left his shop and about 6 blocks down the street, the message reappeared.
I have a 2003 mercury mountaineer 4.6L AWD. The other day it died at the grocery store and now won't start. All it has is the check charging system warning light on. Changed Alternator, battery and starter already and still nothing. It does start sometimes but i need to give it gas to keep it running.

I have gone through many start cycles and added about 200 miles since its onset but the warning persists. I have a drive by with my VW tech Monday for a code read.
View 16 RepliesFlickering low beam lights for several weeks and I decided to change both bulbs, pretty straight forward job, some 30 minutes for each side but when I went for a drive I noticed that ESP warning light on all the time, looked in the manual, tried to turn it on / off, no change. I can't believe there's a connection between changing the bulbs and ESP?
