Sometimes when I get in the car the infotainment screen dims itself after a few minutes so that the information is barely visible. It usually comes back to life after about ten minutes. The manual mentions dimming the screen but doesn't elaborate. Is there a dimming switch for that screen?
View 3 RepliesA few times over the past several months, I've found a weird distortion ocurring in the screen on the infotainment display (not the small screen on the dashboard). It looks like an old CRT / TV screen that has gotten un-aligned / un-synched - a rolling and diagonally stretched image. It goes away if I stop, shutdown, remove the key and restart the car.
I'm thinking that it is being caused by interference generated by my Blackberry handheld, which I have a tendency to stick in the driver's side cup holder - angled toward me, so the antenna ends up pointing toward the infortainment unit screen, but the distortion doesn't disappear simply by moving the Blackberry.
2 days ago I started my car and the centre console screen failed to come on. This meant no a/c, tv, satnav, radio, etc, etc. None of the keys in the centre console worked. Although they were lit up with the car lights on they were not active.
When I used the steering wheel controls to scroll round, it did not come up with any information about phone, radio, position, etc.
My phone however still thought it was connected to the car. Luckily I'm still under warranty and I'm dropping it off today.
Have the dimming red readout problem? I start the car and it's normal and then after driving for a while the led screen drops out and you barely see the digits?
Also, the digital speedo in the same screen does not read accurately, it doesn't keep up with the real speed changes and it just shows a speed and then gets stuck.
Recently had battery changed and now when I go to turn on my air and push climate it says access to air conditioning temporarily not possible.

When i press the cd button - I get a message that says that there is no cd player avaliable. When i press the radio button - I cant see any stations and there is no sound.
I realized some "Fog" in both of my Headlights, even Waterdrops ran down behind the screen of one of them... O.K., it's Wintertime and I know the Physics of Humidity and different Temperatures quite well - but this seems a little bit too much for me. VW says, this is "normal" but I do not think so. How to get the humidity out? It's not so easy to get them open, because I got the same double Xenon headlights...

View 5 RepliesWas driving today- had been on the road for about 30 mins, when suddenly the main screen above the center console went blank. It stayed blank for about 20s, and then returned to the A/C screen. I can't remember what it was on before it went blank - but it wasn't A/C. It is as though it's rebooted. It's forgotten what radio band and station it was on, but all other settings seem to have remained. No other sensations in the car - the multifunction display in the instrument cluster didn't blink.

I noticed yesterday that the "distance remaining" figure in the small nav screen in the instrument cluster has disappeared: it now shows "---" instead of, say, "150 mi." Refilling the gas tank hasn't made a difference. Why the car has started refusing to estimate? Since that's the display that shows all the time while driving, it's particularly noticeable.
View 4 RepliesScreen go black, radio shut off, then reset itself while driving over and over again. Have the car parked and radio stays on after you pull the key and set the alarm. And the final piece, the alarm goes off three times no lights flashing then stops sitting in a garage, not outside. Is this a short ? I have two brand new batteries, new starter new altenator.
View 8 RepliesMy system won't save the standby after 10 seconds setting. Every time I get into the car, I have to turn it on again.
Also, there's a setting that says it'll display the date and time while in standby mode but it never does when selected. It's just a black screen until I set it off with the sensor.
My 2004 v8 with 100,000 miles is running hot. The fluids are all topped off. When I start it up she warms up normally in around 5-10 minutes and the water is 200 but as the oil temp comes up the water goes up as well. After 15 minutes of driving the oil is at 200-220 and the water is 230-245. the fans are coming on but so far no lights or warnings.
Is this the sign of emanate water pump failure? I think the thermostat is OK because for the first 5-10 minutes it runs normally. Putting the heater on get the temp down a little. I am thinking I should drive my truck and order the timing belt, water pump kit! Is it possible that the oil pump or system isn't functioning properly?
Have 2005 Phaeton with about 140,000 miles. Has run fine as long as I've had it at about 100,000. Last week it died in a parking lot after starting. It keep doing that all the way home.
Next day it started and ran a bit longer and then the serpentine belt broke. Replaced the belt and car ran fine for 10 minutes, parted it and the next day it quit after running 2 minutes.
Seems like it dies right after the computer systems cycle up.
I replaced the left side battery and keep the correct charger on it to make sure its fully charged. I start the car and it dies after a few minutes, then I notice the charger is charging the battery.
I checked the J367 battery control unit and its a D rates 2800 so should be the right one. I don't know if they can go bad. But think it could be the problem, not sure if they can be tested. Called my vw dealer and they say they need to whole vehicle.
The meter on the dash show 14 plus so I think the alternator should be fine. I did check to make sure all pulleys were turning smoothly when I changed the belt. Today I checked the Smoothing Capacitor and it tested fine.
Today I had been driving about ten minutes when I got a "Check Gas Cap" warning, inclusive of beep and appropriate icon. Pulled over, switched off but left key in (this is equivalent to a warm boot in my experience), opened gas cap and closed again (it was fine). Turned engine on, got same message, remained on until destination (approximately 20 minute drive). Parked and locked car for approximately 2 hours (equivalent to a cold boot). When I turned on the engine again, the message was gone, and remained off for the rest of the day.
The car had been sitting unused in a heated garage for a little over two weeks, and the weather today was nice, sunny, a few degrees above freezing.
In my view, it clearly was not related to the classic "fuel cap not tight enough" problem of modern cars: for one, I had not just refueled (in fact, I have a little over half a tank). Also, I always tighten the cap until I hear at least a few clicks. SO I wonder if it might be an early warning that my maintenance battery is getting weak, i.e. spurious error message triggered by low voltage?
