How to remove the plastic engine cover that covers the engine? I'm know some of them are just held in place with friction plugs and only require a good tug, but I've thought that about other things in the past which have resulted in expensive noises.
View 8 RepliesI had the fuel pressure sensor recall done recently, and I got the car back with 2 plastic pins missing from the engine compartment covers.
Car went in with all of the pins in place. No big deal, I have a bag of pins and I can replace them.
But then I wonder, if they're careless about small things like pins, are they putting my engine back together with all the bolts and screws???
My dad once told me a story about a coworker who used to work the Ford assembly line. They would sometimes put in 3 bolts where 4 were required.
One day, if my engine fails, it may be hard to prove the dealership was the cause.
My 2000 GTI and 2001 Passat have dull headlights plastic covers. I did try a kit from autozone with sand papers and a liquid polish without good results - It was a great workout.

Successfully installed an engine block heater ! when I was under there I noticed an opening in the plastic that covers bottom of the motor compartment It was under what looks like the transmission on the driver side of the car . I was working through the access door to the oil filter of course. Is there supposed to be two doors under the car and one just is not been replaced ?
View 4 RepliesHow do I change my license plate bulbs? I can't seem to get the plastic covers to pop off without worrying about breaking something. Even reading about people saying the puddle lights were hard to change, i did mines in 10 minutes in the dark with a small flashlight lol.

The fabric has been falling off most of the interior pieces, so I figured I'd start with trying to reglue the fabric on the A-Pillars. I searched the topic & found threads that said to remove the airbag emblem by prying gently, then remove a screw behind that. So I gently remove the emblem & find I have snapped off the 2 posts holding it in place, & there is no screw behind the emblem. What is the removal procedure?

I would like to start removing the covers up top before I yank the dash. I am 1400 miles from home so I cant run and get a replacement.
View 6 RepliesWinter is around the corner and I would like to remove the chrome covers off of my 04 factory rims, the rims are rusting underneath the covers which is forcing my center caps to pop off randomly. Also I was going to get new winter tires so while they rims are off the tire i figured I would Paint them black to match better than the chrome. How to get them off easily? Also a good paint that wont chip easy when i paint them.
View 6 RepliesI took my car in for its first detail (while mine, that is). How to keep the front vent covers open with the car off, for purposes of cleaning the vent directional slats. The best I could figure out in a hurry was, with the key in accessory or the engine on, to switch climate to manual (direct air) to open the covers, set the fan to lowest speed (one light segment above off,) and position the vent switches to furthest left light illuminated (again, one position above off.) Is there any way to keep the covers open with the car, or at least the HVAC fan, off?

View 1 RepliesEvery once in a while one of the headlamp washer covers will be open when I park the car. When that happens I just push it back into place, but it would seem that there should be some sort of auto-retract spring or something to keep it from gravity opening. Is there a spring that might be missing on mine?

View 2 RepliesI took the plastic cover in front of the radiator off to clean the radiator and condenser. It directs air through the condenser before it gets to the radiator and I was wondering if it would cool the engine without it (if you don't need real cold ac air) . Without it the air can go over the top of the condenser and it is still blocked by the flap that stops airflow above the radiator. Also, I am wondering if the fact that the condenser has nothing in it affects the radiator cooling, and is it bad for the AC system to be empty. (My AC doesn't work)
View 7 RepliesI have a 2010 prius with a misty gray interior. Accidentally when getting out I scuffed the door and on another occasion I scuffed the plastic molding by the gas tank lever.
The scuffs are black marks and they bother me every time I look at them. Is there a way to get them out? I tried rubbing them out with some cleaner on a paper towel but no luck.
