I am a new V8 Phaeton owner. I have had the car since December and have only put about 2,000 on the car. I have always been the kind of person who takes great pride in doing much of their own maintenance on cars. Plus. How do you get the passenger side air box out to access the oil filter? I can get the upper section apart but can't get the lower section of the airbox out and I am scared to break it.
View 4 RepliesChanging tranny fluid/filter today, all has been going great until I went to take the filter o-ring out that didn't come with the filter. It will not come out! made a hook tool out of an old tooth brush like someone on here did, o-ring wont budge. Tried a hook pick, it wont dudge (actually bent the tip on the pick and started to tear the o-ring). Everything is ready to go back together and get filled, but this stupid o-ring will not come out!

View 1 RepliesWanted to replace my fuel filter today, read that you need to disconnect either a fuse or a relay to knock out the pump, let the engine run until it stops to release pressure.
Pulled the fuse and the engine ran rough, but then settled down and continued to operate. Tried to pull the relay, it would wiggle but not come out. Tried to remove another one, also locked in, despite having strong hands I could not get it to come out. Even tried a pliers, but I know better than to use heavy force on a part that won't budge as I will break things. Is there a special tool to unplug those? Ford is usually good about having a release latch, could not see one.
In my Lincoln repair book it said to unplug the fuel safety button in the trunk, might try that. However, in the future how do you get the relay switches out if I want to do any electrical repairs?
I'm getting ready to do my first oil change on my 20011 Camry. I've always had trucks and my other vehicle in a 94 Land Cruiser that is 5" higher than stock. What is the best way to get under the Camry to change the oil and filter?
View 14 Repliesjust bought this truck and it has a brittle cap and i cant get the cap to turn, its been on there awhile . 99 f250, anyway might have to destroy this cap to be able to remove it. Doing this without damaging the filter housing?
View 14 RepliesIt appears that after you unsnap the three clips you have to loosen the clamp between the air cleaner box and the intake manifold and separate the air box top from the rubber tube before you can access the air filter. However there appears to be hinges on the back of the air filter box that gave the impression that after you unsnap the three clips you can open the lid.
I have not found any step by step instructions to tell me the correct steps to perform to access the air filter
I've never done it, not even sure where it is located.

I have never done a transmission oil change before and I was wondering if it is necessary to change the filter as well. The maintenance manual says change the oil it does not mention the filter. I'm not crazy about removing the oil pan unless it is recommended.

View 4 RepliesI'm just curious because I bought my car with 17,500K and it was originially from Dusty Arizona. The stock air filter was filthy! It was covered it dirt/grass/debris. So, I put a new K&N filter in at about 19K and just did the first cleaning today with 45K. It was coated in bugs! Tons of little bugs especially what looked like bees and almost larva! I used the K&N filter cleaner after tying to dislodge as many of those bugs as possible.
I then used the power washer from a good distance to spray it down good. I then looked at the filter in the sun and could see lots of bugs still lodged in their. I used I flat head to get quite a bit more grime/bugs out before spraying it down with the oil. I then put the filter in a bag with paper towels and spun it around to get any excess oil off the filter.
Anyways, I just wanted to say waiting 25-26K miles between filter cleaning/changes is WAY too long IMO.
Do you change when you change your oil, or at what interval? How often to change fuel filter?
View 14 RepliesMy wife purchased a new F150 4x4 in late 09. We have driven it about 5000 miles. It is garaged year around. Her brother offered to do the first oil change but can't get the filter off. He has tried every type of wrench and has the metal body of the filter nearly completely torn off up to the rim of the filter near the seat and it still won't screw off. we are thinking that is might have gotten cross threaded at the factory and over tightened.
View 8 RepliesWould you remove the tune for just a regular Oil change? Its not the 10.000 mile service, just made an appointment for the oil change at 6k miles.
I try not to flash as much as possible.
Note: In the future I am planning to change the oil myself with an extractor but not enough time and I plan to do a road-trip of 4k miles by the end of the year, so wanted to let them check everything prior.
