I have owned a Phaeton W12 for around a year and have got to know my local VW dealer extremely well. My latest woe is the hazard warning lights which refuse to operate. The dealer advises it is a fault with the J523 (?) unit.
View 4 RepliesI just got the Air Bag Fault light and warning on my display for my 2006 Phaeton. I have not seen any posts on this topic doing a keyword search. This happened the day after I got back to my car at the airport parking and found a cracked windshield that is $825 for the glass alone. Not a good week so far.
View 9 RepliesI have just had what I feel like is a big problem. It started raining tonight( I don't know if it's related) and I got back into my car, after putting the baby in the rear passenger seat, and started it up and the "System Fault Workshop" warning came on, with a warning symbol next to my tpms symbol that is shaped like a key, and the "car outline icon" in the center had the rear passenger door light blink open. I hope that made sense.
I tried to restart the car to see if it would go off, and it won't. The infotainment doesn't light up, and the blinkers don't work, and neither would the high beams. So the steering wheel lights/controls are dead. Also my keyless entry doesn't lock/unlock the car. I couldn't find anything in the manual, and the only online I could find that might be related is the following: " the actual issue is/are leaky seals on the front latch solenoids/actuators, period.
I just tried to go start the car again, and the alarm started going off. Then I started the car to try and stop the alarm, and it kept going off...Then I thought the battery might have something to do with it so I opened the trunk with the key since the button in the drivers door wouldn't open it, and the alarm when off when I manually opened the trunk.....What am I going to do now?

Because the battery gauge in the dash showed the battery being completely dead with no charge, I tried to "jump" the car with another car using jumper cables hooked up to the battery in the trunk on the drivers side. Again the alarm went off when opening the trunk, and when starting the vehicle, and the battery gauge was still completely dead.
A few days ago I got an Airbag Fault Warning while driving, since then the orange airbag light has remained on and at start up it gives me a "Airbag Fault" warning. Any remedies? The manual states to just take it in to the dealer.
View 7 RepliesOK, so I've been getting the "Tyre Pressure Monitoring System Fault" warning message repeatedly for some time now. I had the "G" code TPMS control module installed last week (under extended warranty) thinking that that should fix the fault. However, the fault continues.
Do this fault might be due to dead or dying batteries in the TPMS wheel units (not covered under extended warranty)? If not, what else could it be?
I am a new Phaeton owner, 2004 v10 with the electric boot. I recently had the batteries run flat after leaving a charger in the 12v socket not realising it remained powered. After trickle charging the batteries for 3 days I cant get the boot to operate electrically.
I have scanned with VAG-COM and don't have any errors on the convenience module. The switch on the boot is not illuminated. If I press and hold the boot button on the keyfob the hazards flash but nothing happens. I have followed the reset procedure with no difference. Interestingly on the dash the car does not show the boot as open when it is up. It appears to be receiving no power but I can probe and have tried to reset the parameters of location 22 and 23 on the convenience controller and wouldn't expect access if there was no power. The boot mechanism was working perfectly before the battery ran flat.
Ok , how do you operate ' soft close doors" ??

I took the car to the shop this morning for diags but what might be causing the problem? It is a 2004 V8 with about 142K miles.
I have experienced an intermittent fault warning alarm and light that comes on sometimes right after starting my 04 Touareg V8 with air suspension: "Fault: Running Gear Workshop". It has been to the dealer once and they could not find anything wrong so they reset the alarm and since it has continued.
View 1 RepliesExperienced an incredible failure this morning when I went out to start my 2015 2.0t Ultimate. Foot on brake, press start. Engine starts and the car icon in the middle of the instruments shows the system scan. Scan completes and all warning lights stay on. The LCD panel starts to report system after system has failed ... SCC, EPB, FCW, RPD, LDW, a veritable alphabet soup of abbreviations. Put car in gear and pulled out of space to see if that would have any effect. Turning wheel very heavy as if power steering has failed. No effect from moving a few feet. Couldn't get back directly to my parking spot so carefully around the block to get back to my space. Rear view camera came on when in Reverse but it remained on after shifting into Drive.
Back into park. Turned off engine. Tried to restart. No dice, won't even go through the start cycle. just all the warning lights on and LDW Failure on the LCD panel. Arranged a tow to the dealer and when the tow truck arrived we discovered the Electronic Parking Brake had automatically engaged even though I intentionally had left it off and there was no way to release it. Battery appears to have plenty of power so unlikely it is a low battery issue ... the two times it did start it turned over without hesitation. It's behaving as if the computer has been totally scrambled. There used to be a joke around that if Microsoft made cars, all the instruments and warning lights would be replaced by a single big red light in the middle of the dash reading "General Vehicle Fault" and it seems like that's what mine is telling me.
At the end of my first week of ownership, I encountered problems with the rear cabin light in my car not working properly - sometimes it came on when the doors were opened, and sometimes it did not. I mentioned it to the Phaeton technician at my dealership, and we agreed to just defer investigation and rectification until the car was due to come in for its first oil change.
After I finished putting the start button in, I ran a diagnostic scan on the car, and the problem with the rear cabin dome light was the only remaining fault code. So - I kind of figured "gee, this can't be rocket science to fix", and I removed the rear cabin light assembly from the roof of the car.
I had a close look at it, and found the cause of the problem pretty quickly. When the assembly was put together, the tiny black wire that carries power to the rear cabin interior light button became trapped between the large bus bar that serves as a ground for all the switches and some foam insulation that protects the circuit board from the ground bus bar. The entire assembly would have tested out just fine when it was manufactured, but over time, the vibration encountered in transporting the car from Germany to Canada, and the vibration caused when I drove the car around during my first week of ownership caused the bus bar to cut through the insulation on the wire - hence the short circuit. All I had to do to fix it was just poke the wire out from under the bus bar. Everything works great now.
The fault code that was generated - "Rear Interior Lamp Button - Short to Earth" was absolutely dead-on, and took me directly to the problem. I really doubt if I ever would have found this problem if the car did not have such a competent self-diagnostic system.
After running to operating temp, if the car is turned off then restarted (like you would at a gas station, which is where I notice this) the engine will turn and turn and turn but not fire. I have noticed that stomping on the acceleration will cough it into life during this procedure. This doesn't happen every time and I have recently run high octane gas during a long distance trip.

After the recirculation motor being replaced on the air con either coincidence or not the hazards are not working, had read somewhere can be a pinched wire behind the infotainment. I have found the main fuses in the cabin but no detail card.
View 5 RepliesToday I noticed that my hazards came on while my car was parked. It's weird because when I opened my car to check if I had turned on the hazards (which of course I didn't), the hazards stopped flashing. I don't know what could have caused this.
View 1 RepliesThe warning in the title has been appearing for months. Push reset and the display message goes away but the orange light stays on. No rhyme or reason. Sometimes it's gone after a restart for a day or two. Sometimes it stays on no matter how many times the truck is shut down and restarted in a day.
So I finally took it into Ford for service today because the truck is still under warranty. They ask if the tires have been replaced. Obviously they have because I've got BFG KO2s that are a size or two bigger than stock. But I explained that the tires have been on for several months and that the issued did not present itself when the truck came out of the tire shop. It didn't happen until a couple of months later.
So they tell me that their tool can't even detect that any sensors are present and that they'll break down a tire to check and see that a sensor is there. Two & a half hours later they tell me that they've ordered a body control module and cut me loose with the truck. They'll call when the part is here.
My '04 V8 had been sitting unused for about a week. As I backed out of my garage the airbag warning chime and symbol illuminated. I have gone through many start cycles and added about 200 miles since its onset but the warning persists. I have a drive by with my VW tech Monday for a code read.
View 16 RepliesFlickering low beam lights for several weeks and I decided to change both bulbs, pretty straight forward job, some 30 minutes for each side but when I went for a drive I noticed that ESP warning light on all the time, looked in the manual, tried to turn it on / off, no change. I can't believe there's a connection between changing the bulbs and ESP?

View 8 RepliesI have had my Phaeton for 5 years, and every time I start it, the Depress Foot Brake light (amber) next to the R on gear shift always flashed. I assumed it did to tell me to press on the brake to shift gear. Well, two days ago I could not get my car started. Had to get a tow to VW dealer (48 miles) because a jump start did not work. After I checked in with ticket writer, he went to my car and (yeah, guess what?) inserted the key and started it. He called me out to the delivery spot to show me the light. He said it is not supposed to flash, but comes on steady. Bottom line is, I drove it home with no charge to me (except for tow job), and today I went out and again it would not start.
It was too late to get it towed. I was told by ticket writer that perhaps I had something slip down into the gear area, which might interfere with a sensor. Is there something else I should look for? By the way, a true confession, the night before the first trouble, I was curious and inserted my key into the flashlight hole to check on its depth to see if it does charge the flashlight, and when doing so, it caused a spark (I know, that was STUPID!). Could this have caused my starting problems? When I insert key to start, I get the message Move Gear Shift to P/N position.
I have a warning light on dashboard and bleep saying "Workshop Exhaust" and showing orange engine icon.
This first happened when I bought the car in November 2014, then went off after about two days, but is becoming more frequent two or three times a month.
I travel about a mile and a half to work each day, and have a longer run usually once a month, I have been told to select 3rd gear and when warm to drive for perhaps 10 miles to clear any build up of emissions.
