Phaeton :: Rattle / Ticking Noise In Center Console Between Seats
I have a rattle/ticking noise that happens when the 05 Phaeton experiences road vibration. I'm thinking about taking it apart to see what may be loose. This is the console between the two front seats.
I've narrowed it down by placing my hand on top to silence. It can't be silenced by touching the rear seat vents or power plug cover. So it seems the whole console must vibrate to create the noise.
Golf/GTI VI :: TSI 2.0T - Engine Has Ticking Noise At Idle
I finally jumped from MKII land into a new GTI . Is it normal for it to sound like a diesel when at Idle? Its only really noticeable when you lift the hood. Im used to my MKII with sticky lifters but the sound of the TSI seems a bit loud.... I haven't been able to compare it to another car.

So this ticking sound isn't coming from the back of the car as I've searched. I'm positive its coming from somewhere in the engine bay. When the engine is on, I can hear a tick every half a second and I'm a little concerned because this hasn't happened previously.

I purchased a 2010 Chevy HHR 4-cylinder with automatic transmission & 50K miles last December. I am hearing a lite ticking noise when I gently press the gas pedal and the car begins to accelerate. To me it sounds like a lifter or sticking valve. I took it to a Chevy dealer & they acknowledged hearing the ticking noise but after two days they could not find the problem....no computer codes. Nothing! This is a weird problem since if you have the car in neutral, engine running, with the hood open...you don't hear the noise. If I roll down the window when the car is underway I don't hear the noise. If the windows are closed the noise is very apparent when the car is in gear and I accelerate lightly. As the RPM's increase the noise seems to go away but you hear it again as the transmission shifts to the next gear and the engine is under load.
The car seems to run fine, the idle is not rough, the acceleration is spot on, gas mileage seems great. The oil is clean & changed at 47K.
Anyway....the dealer told me it could be an injector or something else but had no answers. A friend told me to try another oil change and use a synthetic oil. Someone else told me to put more insulation under my hood so I don't hear the engine. I'm really frustrated with this noise and want to make sure I don't have a serious engine problem. What the cause of this noise might be?

I recently replaced the intake manifold gaskets on my 94 silverado 5.7 due to a coolant leak from the heater hose quick disconnect. It broke off when i went to replace it and had to remove the intake to fix it properly. After everything was all back together and i started the engine, i heard a slight ticking noise that goes up and down with engine rpm. I can hear it more so from in the cab than i can under the hood. Not sure if its the injectors making this noise or what. I also replaced the distributor cap and rotor while i had the distributor out. I marked every wire and hose to make sure nothing would get mixed up when I reassembled it.

I have a chevy cobalt and recently just upgraded the pistons and rods. I've driven it about 1k miles since the replacement and it just started making a ticking noise. It sounds like its up in the head. I've changed my timing chain tensioner bolt, also replaced the rod bearings. Everything lines up at TDC but around 2-3k rpm it starts ticking. I'm also getting a P0300 code. When I pop the hood I hear a leak somewhere but can't find it. I've also tried using carb cleaner at the injectors to see if a gas leak was accruing, but nothing changed in the rpms.

About a two weeks ago, I had a CEL pop up. I brought it in to the stealership to get it scanned. I don't recall what the exact code was, but the description was something to the effect of "Cooling System Performance." I hadn't noticed that the engine temp was any different than it had ever been, so we kinda figured it was just a bad sensor. We popped the hood just to take a look at things, but he didn't really notice that anything was off. I thought the engine sounded a little difference. It wasn't idling rough, but there was a very subtle ticking noise. He didn't think anything of it. So he cleared the code, and sent me on my way.
The code came back a few days later, but disappeared about a week ago. Since then, however, my .:R has been feeling a little different. Like I'm losing torque. The ticking noise has become distinctly louder, although I can only hear it when I pop the hood. Last night, i was listening to it, and there are two separate noises, coming from two different locations. One is coming from the left side of the engine, most likely from one of the belts. The other is the one that worries me the most, as it's quite a bit louder. This ticking noise seems to be coming from the engine itself. The longer I let the car idle, the louder it gets.
One of my friends took a listen, and he suggested that it could be a blown piston ring. This would explain why I'm losing torque, but I haven't noticed any blue smoke coming from my exhaust.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Ticking Noise Coming From The Engine
I have a 2012 Elantra sedan and I have a ticking noise coming from the engine.......I have had the noise since new.......but it was very faint.......it has gotten worse with time........I had mentioned this to the dealership when it was new but they said it was normal engine noise! It sounds like the older cars used to sound when there was a valve clearance problem.....but with the advent of overhead cams.....I'm not sure what the problem is.........78,000km on engine!

2003 Santa Fe with the 2.7l v6. It started making ticking noises from the engine bay about a year ago it sounds almost like when you take a spark plug out of the socket while engine is running (that’s the best way I can describe it).
It used to only do it when it was cold out and first started. Then it started doing it while at idle as well. Now it does it all the time no matter idle, or how warm the engine is or how warm it is outside. It getting so loud it sounds like I have a diesel engine.
The check engine light came on and was on a for a while before I could find the issue. The issue that caused the CEl to come on was a solenoid and an Air intake temp sensor. I fixed those but that had no effect on the noise. I have replaced all the valve gaskets, plugs, wires, pcv valve air filter. Still had no effect.
My wife took it to a mechanic who I believe ripped us off, and did no work but charged her for it. They did a timing belt and lower valve gasket job 1500$. There was no sticker to prove new timing belt, no new water pump, thermostat, and then they said it needed a new ECU (200$) which they ordered it and it had nothing to do with the ecu. They should have eaten the cost once they put it in and found it wasn’t that, but they did not!!! She has no idea about cars and paid them. but don’t get me started on that I will never return to that shop, and am thinking of taking them to small claims court dishonest thieves who took advantage of her not knowing about cars (I was out of state for work, and was out of cell phone range so she couldn’t have asked me).
It has a hard time going up steep inclines and you have to either gun it before the incline or it is very hard to make it up you can put the peddle to the floor and it only slowly climes but the engine rpms almost go to redline 5k rpms. Whenever I go to put gas in it clicks the pump off nonstop and to fill the tank you literally have to find a sweet spot or stand there and constantly hold it in when it clicks and clicks and clicks. I have changed the oil to synthetic, and I am using only OEM oil filters from the dealer ship. I changed the idler pulley, but that did not work. I changed the Oil and filter, but that did not work either.
I have had multiple people look at it and some of the answers they have said were…. “Noisy lifters”, “ticking idler pulley”, “Sticky timing chain idler”, “Change the oil and switch to oem filter”, “Its defiantly “something wrong in the fuel system”. And the best one… “I don’t know it sounds like it’s not long for this world”.
So now I am trying to decide the next step. I don’t like driving it around to much as I am worried if it is serous it may be something that ends up running the engine, but it’s the only vehicle available at the moment. I feel like hitting my head on the dash board I don’t know what to do anymore.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Engine Is Making A Ticking Noise
My engine is making a ticking noise. Louder when I start it and not as intense after it warms up but its still there. I first thought it was one of my pulleys making noise but I brought it to a friend who knows a lot more then I do and he says to check the engine valves. Did some searching online and thinking it might be the valve lash adjuster but not sure.
Anyway whats the best way to go about this? What type of oil should I be using and I also read I should be only buying Hyundai oil filters?
Mitsubishi - 3000gt :: Ticking Noise Coming From Engine
I have a ticking noise coming from my engine, its the loudest when cold, it only happens at about 1800 rpm and up, and it only happens when I'm pressing on the gas pedal. I looked around my engine, and the noise seemed like it was coming from my fuel injectors, however, the noise doesn't change speed. Can it still be my fuel injectors? or is it something else?
The car is a 1996 Mitsubishi 3000 GT Base (non-turbo), 5-speed manual.
Passat (B7) :: Ticking Noise In The Engine Bay Right After Start Up Intermittently
I'm a happy owner of a tdi sel with around 5k on the odometer. I hear a ticking noise in the engine bay right after start up intermitently. It lasts about 3 seconds, then goes away. It sounds like an LP gas ignitor...click click click Do any other tdi owners hear this? If so, what it is?

MKIV Jetta wagon 2004. Bought used last year. Four previous owners with 125K on it.
Problem: After oil change where I previously had 5W-30 with valvoline dino, I changed with a different brand 5W-30 (Peak brand). Ticking noise started immediately from engine area usually only after it got up to temperature. Also using different oil filter. Initially not sure if it was injector or lifter tick. It ended up being lifter tick, and the give away was when going down a small hill and the engine downshifting, the increase RPM caused the tick to increase at the same rate. So here is the path I went down.
1. Swapped out oil filter - no change. I thought this might work because I was using a fram tough guard.
2. Added some rislone with ZDDP additive. Quieted down the valvetrain quite a bit, but did not solve the problem
3. Added rislone engine treatment. Got better, but still not totally solved.
4. Tried to "drive it out" and get some mileage on the rislone . Didn't work. Definitely better though
Finally, after all that I figured let's give my baby some of the thick sauce. So I pulled out a quart from the diptube with my suction device and put in a quart of 10W-40. Almost immediately PROBLEM GONE. So either that crappy peak oil doesn't have the viscosity that it advertises, or the valve train is just getting old and needs a little bit thicker oil in the summer. Probably both. I will also keep using a small dose of the ZDDP additive to extend the life of the valvetrain, as it sounds really good with that stuff in the system.
Celica :: 2000 GT - Ticking / Rattling Noise From Engine Around 2k To 3k RPMs
I drive a 2000 Celica GT 5 speed. I am having an issue with my 1ZZ-FE.
I am hearing a ticking/rattling noise from my engine around 2k-3k RPMS. Anything before or after that, the noise dies down. I could hear it from the interior of the car as well. I at first thought it was valve chatter. Someone said It could be a piston or rod. What parts will be needed? Worst case, ill just swap in a 03+ 1ZZ or go with a 2ZZ.

Today was the first time I was in my RX without the radio since I bought it. I have a 2011 RX CPO with 65000kms on the odometer.
When the vehicle is idling there is a tick-tick noise coming from the engine area that does not go away. I initially thought this noise was due to it being 0 Degree C but the noise continued for the duration of my 45 minute drive. Later in the day the noise was consistent was did not silence.
