Phaeton :: Do Dash Vent Doors Close
Oct 10, 2010
Do the outboard vents close like the vents around the clock? My center one opens and closes with the "need' of the A/C system, but the outboard ones are only open.

View 6 RepliesJust got took delivery on a 05 Phaeton. After reading thru most of the newbie FAQ section and getting all the setting done on the vehicle, I turned off the ignition and the center vent wouldn't come down. I tried getting it open and close a couple of times via the climate control with no luck. I tried starting and stopping the engine, the locking and unlocking from the outside. You guys think it's just broke?
Good thing this is still under factory warranty, better make a call to the VW dealer and schedule an appointment.

Instrument Panel air vent cover (decor panel) stays open, does not close when it should...

Ok , how do you operate ' soft close doors" ??
View 24 RepliesJust picked up a 1988 brick nose F-150 4x4, 4.9, 5 speed, manual windows and locks, A/C, power steering. Was a southern truck for most of its life so no REAL rust, just some "surface drust". Lots of character where the paint has worn off. Trying to fix some of the small problems and any mechanical problems I can find.
The problem I'm looking to fix is the drivers side vent window. I found that the lower mounting bracket was broke loose from the vertical track that guides the door widow and holds the vent. I welded the small bracket back on in its original location, but, when it is closed and locked, the front of the vent is still open by about 1/8" in the front. I'm was thinking the lower pivot was bent to the inside, but after looking it over it appears fine. I cant see where the problem is. If I push the front inside corner to force it to close, the rear lock ends up with a 1/4"-3/8" gap.
I did also find under the vent window (when I pulled it) the metal bridge connecting the outside skin of the door to the inside was cracked almost to the point of a complete separation. That will get welded tomorrow.
Having problems with the rear doors sticking? I.e. they are hard to open and close? Seems like the hinge is no good but I am not sure.
View 4 RepliesI noticed that I need to use more strength go close the driver's door in my 2007 gs350 All the other doors i can close with minimum effort. Is this normal?
View 14 RepliesMy 2005 f150 extended cab / supercab front doors wont close fully. The light on the dash goes off, but you can see the door is still open in the mirror. It also sounds open. The rear doors are fine.
View 6 RepliesI bought a 2016 ES 350 last month.
The doors (especially the rear doors) require quite a solid push to close them, or they just come to within an inch or so of closing and don't close all the way.
Want to know if this is a problem with the production of my car in particular, or if the model is just like this.
Every time I open then close either of the driver side doors (haven't tried passenger yet), I hear a thumping noise coming from the trunk.
When I opened the trunk to see what it was, the noise stopped. Only with trunk closed does this happen.
Could it be air pressure causing the trunk lid to move? I didn't think the car was that air tight.
I have one problem, my trunk does not close, I close but it is not closed, the system does not close and the door is open.
View 7 RepliesJust got back from the store and the trunk will not close. Goes about 2/3 the way and stops. On inspection it seems the cable enclosure from the body to the trunk lid is not retracting(?) properly and causing the pinch protection to kick in as the cable appears to be very rigid.
Two questions: Could this be due to cold weather (less than 20F)?
Is there a way to have the 2011 RX350 lock all of the doors/trunk automatically when I press the close buton on back of trunk?
Once I press trunk close button on back of trunk, it seems have to wait until it closes before I can lock he entire car and walk away?
If I press the lock button too early, I get the alarm.
I took my car in for its first detail (while mine, that is). How to keep the front vent covers open with the car off, for purposes of cleaning the vent directional slats. The best I could figure out in a hurry was, with the key in accessory or the engine on, to switch climate to manual (direct air) to open the covers, set the fan to lowest speed (one light segment above off,) and position the vent switches to furthest left light illuminated (again, one position above off.) Is there any way to keep the covers open with the car, or at least the HVAC fan, off?
View 4 RepliesI had my first potential problem happen yesterday. I parked my car in a parking lot and my sunroof wouldn't close. I think that the pinch protection was the culprit because it started to close and would open when there was about a 3 inch gap. It never closed but when I drove away and tried it again in motion it closed.
View 24 RepliesWhat is involved in fixing TCM system and ECM (I could not start my '04 Phaeton, had it towed twice, only to find I needed a switch, frame, and a mechanism [shifter]).
Now I notice the center vent door that goes over the clock has two cracks in it and I also noticed some other scratches on the so-called wood area on the console. What is a TCM, and an ECM, and what would have to be removed to replace brake switch, PRNDL sensor, and shifter mechanism? Before work was done, service writer said the steering column and the center console would have to be removed. I know when I go back to the dealer Monday (2.8.10) there will probably be denial, so I would just like to know in advance what had to be removed.
What are the steps to remove the left side vent assembly? The hinge is broken on my wooden cover and poking around I can't seem to get the whole vent assembly out.
View 2 RepliesI was wondering how to remove the 4 air vents in the dash. I am planning on adding some LEDs into them?.... Any special tools needed?
View 1 RepliesI was checking the engine today and I think I found a coolant leak close to the Oil Filter reservoir, the fluid is PINK color and that matches the coolant type of fluid, check the pictures. Looking for the location from where the leak might be coming ? Do the Thermostat or Water Pump are closer to that location ?, I have the theory that they might be the cause of the coolant leak, they were changed about 4,000 miles ago,
View 7 RepliesBoth of my headlight sprayer latches will not close properly and will open when I park on a decline or have a hard stop.
View 1 RepliesMy driver's side air vent is stuck in the open position. I can coax it down with a piece of wire, and it will then (sort of) engage with the motor and move up automatically when activated (again with a bit of coaxing), but then gets stuck again... Not sure if it's the motor or gears/teeth on the vent itself...? Looking for instructions for removing the motor? Apparently it's straight-forward...?
