My 09 w12 is leaking a clear oil from the back of the engine which is dripping off the Right hand side of the exhaust where it appears from the engine bay ?
it's not water , as the oil spots on my drive are not drying out ? it is also has no odour , so what is it ?? , the car has 16K miles and its bugging me.
I have a 2013 Sonata SE without about 41K on it. I got the oil changed back in May, and a few weeks after I discovered that it was leaking. I took it back to the oil change place and they ensured me that they cleaned up the mess they may have left behind. A month or two later, I believe the engine is still leaking. I've cleaned up two significantly huge puddles of oil, yet the dipstick says the oil level is right below the dot under the full mark. I checked to see if the oil filter was dirty, meaning the leak would come from there if the wrong filter was installed. The oil filter is clean.
There is also a clear fluid leaking out of the engine now too. I thought it was water, but it has a bitter taste to it. It may be the air conditioner, but it has never once spit out water like this since purchasing the car new in October of 2013.
My engine also gets hot much quicker than it ever did before. I can move the car a few feet after starting it up and it will go one notch below halfway on the temperature gauge. It has never exceeded this temperature, but it sure gets there quicker now after this oil issue began. I can also tell when the car is feeling a little sluggish in terms of acceleration, and right now, it's certainly feeling sluggish. The 2.4L isn't as peppy as it usually is.
Just noticed this the past couple of days. Something is leaking. Its a clear liquid and has a slight oily texture.

Tried to look for front sunroof ports... cannot see it. Discovered that I have about 3/4" of water still trapped under the master cylinder area... cannot find the drainports underneath it. Probably have to use a wire to poke through from top.
I have a 2009 Toyota RAV 4, it has about 53,000 miles and I am the original owner. About 4 days ago my husband drove the car home from a trip to town, and I commented there was a clear thick oil leaking from all 4 tire wells. He pointed out it some of it had started before he left, but when he came home, it was worse. It continued to leak, but seemed to slow down.We brought it to the Toyota dealer and they have had it two days. They claim the drove the car, and let it sit overnight and they don't find anything or see any more leak. My husband cleaned the floor, and now we have four giant oil stains on the garage floor, it looks like someone spilled mineral oil or another clear oil.

so I got under the car and found that the red leak (I did not touch it when I saw it .. I was in a hurry... ) was not atf after all... it is just the reddish VW coolant.... you can see it does look like ATF, but it is indeed sweet coolant
there was a significant marking at the bottom of the bell housing.
Seems almost impossible that it originated from inside there but there are no other traces that I could see.
Can I safely assume that the constant drip of non-odorous clear liquid from the engine is from the a/c? It comes down pretty heavy from near the front right tire, about one drop per 2 seconds from what I saw.
View 4 RepliesI have an 04, one air spiring is leaking. Covered by real driver warranty. VW no longer makes the part so they have to replace the entire system, it costs about $10,000. Great car but if you are buying one, get the real driver warranty.
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with my 2006 Phaeton. This night I found one of the headlights color is red, almost purple, the right one, the left has no problems. I suspect the windscreen reservoir is leaking, because I have put yesterday 4L of windscreen fluid and now I have this problem. The reservoir is located near the right headlight. I have emptied the reservoir right away and waited for 2 or 3 hours but when I tried the color of the right headlight was the same. How can this problem can be resolved and what exactly may be broken in the xenon system.
View 12 RepliesRight front strut is leaking. Guess it had to happen at some point. Dealer was unaware of history of support from VW due to changing system. Sent them to check in with VWNA about their paying for all but 1 strut. Fingers crossed. If this does not work, could spell the end of Phaeton ownership. Have owned 2004 V8 since new. Who has tried rebuilt struts?
Check engine light came on. Told is a thermostat (not a big deal, I guess) and cooling fan 2 is shot. Would some of labor be same required to replace timing belt? Need to do that soon and maybe can make more sense to do both. If not, may be time to take to someone other than dealer?
Had leak (passenger rear) up high. Was repaired, saying there was a broken part. With heavy rain, returned. They are checking further. I told them to be certain there is no clog. Any other thoughts?
I took my brand new used Phaeton for a 2000 mile road trip between SoCal and Colorado last week, and brought a couple pairs of skis in the ski bag (5 seater). Now, I can't fold the damn thing back in between the two doors. Any hints or tricks? Right now, I just have it sticking out into the trunk.
View 13 RepliesA little less than a year ago I decided to change the timing belt & water pump on my then 61k miles '05 V8. I bought the BlauParts timing belt kit and rented the tools from them also. The install went without a hitch, the old water pump gasket came off nice and clean and I installed the new water pump gasket without any RTV as per the instructions.
A couple of weeks ago the Phaeton hit 65k miles so I did an oil change and while I had the belly pan off I noticed a small whitish pink spot on the belly pan, right below the crankshaft pulley. Looking closer I found coolant traces that came from the water pump area. I cleaned it all up and decided to drive it for a few weeks to see if it's an actual ongoing leak or if that was maybe just an old leak that might have happened just after the install. Unfortunately it's an actual leak ..
First I thought maybe it's leaking out at the gasket but closer investigation shows that the leak is actually right below the pulley at the bottom of what looks like a freeze plug at the front of the water pump. Is this a common area for a leak with this type of water pump? It's only been installed for 11 months and 4,500 miles. Btw, the pump in the kit is a Saleri model GD42107.
I'm really bummed about this because it's a lot of work to swap a water pump out and I'd hate going thru all that work again (and having to rent the tools again). Question is, can I swap the water pump out without putting the front bumper into the service position? From what I recall the only clearance issue might be finding a puller that is short enough to pop off the camshaft sprockets with the radiator that close.

Today I was filling the Windshield Washer container and all of the liquid went directly to the floor, that means something is leaking, but I haven't had any warning symbol in the console neither the VAG-COM system, is this a common problem ?, is it too hard to fix it ?, I will assume it should be covered by the CPO warranty ?

View 13 RepliesI'd noticed an oil leak drivers side and upon investigation it appears the rack has developed a leak. I lifted the car on the vehicle lift and when I did noticed oil pouring out of the boot surrounding the steering linkage coming from the steering rack. With the tires dropped the full amount this created a tilt of said boot allowing the oil that had filled the boot to drain out. My conclusion is the rack has developed a leak with the boot being full of oil.
I did a "steering rack" search but nothing of value appeared.
So my understanding is the water temp gauge at 200 degrees is pretty much spot on. The last three days I notice the temp gauge go to 200 then up to 240 which is like just one line away from the red zone. I turned on my heat full blast and was on the tollway and the temps went back to 200. The moment I got back into stop and go traffic the temp goes up again 220-240 range. Again, one line away from the red zone. No other alarms or dash messages come up. No smell of anti-freeze.
As well, the oil temp which was always at 200 has done the same thing. Running over 200 in the 220 plus range. Could this just be low anti-freeze? If so, would I not get a dash warning light?
We just got a bunch of rain in San Diego and my cousin was sitting in the back seat of my scab when she felt water on her shoulder on the passenger side back window. I did some investigating today to find it not coming through the window but dripping off the back of the headliner. Is it the third brake light or the back window seal? If it is any recommendations on a fix?
View 4 RepliesJust got in the car and the washer fluid low warning popped up on the dash. As I'm refilling it and get towards the washer bottle being full I see it leaking out the bottom of the car. The car hasn't had any impacts and it's mild here at the moment so the bottle hasn't frozen and cracked but seems to have just started out the blue. Otherwise, swap the washer bottle? I seem to recall seeing it when replacing one of my horns and can't imagine it's much of a job but you never know!
View 8 RepliesI am experiencing a slight bump when up-shifting from 1-2nd and back, sometimes with hi-er revs, sometimes just a delay followed with a "bump". A quote from an indy mechanic came at around $4500... (as I have 2004 4,2) he thinks seals are not soft / flexible any more therefore at lower speeds not allowing enough oil to go through... or something like that ( I`m not sure how that all works...)
Most of the similar threads indicate a flush first and if no improvement than a complete re & re.
Interesting enough, I went to VW dealer for a second opinion and they said that getting an individual parts for transmission repair is impossible for them, rather a whole unit only?!
