My 2004 trunk controls are not working? the key nor the door, or the switch on the lid will open or close the trunk? there is no sound either when activating any switch or button! Wondering if there is a fuse or connector that might be the cause?
View 4 RepliesToday I changed my LH battery due to some issues i had when leaving the can unused for a day or two. I followed the changing procedure listed on the forum and everything went as planned. However now my power trunk wont work. I used the procedure to sync the power trunk but now when i hold the trunk button on my keyfob the lights flash etc but no sound or movement from the trunk.
View 4 RepliesI opened the boot via the door panel button. Loaded suitcases in and pressed button down on the boot lid.
The two hooks ( plastic and metal one ) directly came out and the boot lid did not move at all.
Tried a reset the whole procedure found on this excellent forum. but no result. I also tried to put my key in the boot lock and it doesnt want to lock or unlock.
Trunk release switch on drivers door does not open trunk. Remote and key will open trunk. Sounds like a motor is trying to close the trunk when it is being closed, but does not pull it shut ?
1. I did pull on the switch
2. Gas door switch works fine
3. It is a standard trunk (not powered)
The trunk lock switch on the d/s inner door panel has stopped working. Also both remotes won"t open the trunk as well. Everything else seems to be OK.
View 10 RepliesI am facing a discouraging situation here w/ my Phaeton: the trunk does not work, the mechanic called it quits and VW Dealership wants $32k and 3-6months in order to replace the car's electrical harness.
So here are some details regarding the problem:
1. It started by not opening the trunk when using the door switch. only the remote key.
2. Then, it wouldn't lock the trunk (it would open all the way and close)
3. After a few more days, it wouldn't open/close the trunk or lock it. (it would work once in a while, and sometimes the trunk would open/close just half way)
4. As or right now, the trunk opens and closes most of the time, but it doesn't lock.
I replaced the trunk hatch(lock), the hydraulic pump that opens and closes it, new battery and fuses. The mechanic worked on it on several occasions doing all the replacements and calibration, computer reset and all that.
I'm guessing it might be an electrical problem, a loose contact or interrupted wire given the nature of the problem (intermittent operation). But I don't know where to start looking...
The button on the bottom of the trunk lid on my 2004 Phaeton that you tap to close the trunk is not working and the local dealer is scratching their "heads" since they've confirmed there is active power. Meanwhile my car is held captive until they hear back from VW corp. The trunk will close if I reach up and hit the center of the VW badge on the back of the trunk but its too tall for the wife to reach when the lid is open.
View 5 RepliesMy 07 Prius has developed a problem and i would like to get opinions about whether the problem could've been caused by the body work I had done a week before.
i want to know if i should take it back to the body shop and ask them to check it, or, if it's not likely to have been caused by the body work, then i'll just take it to the Toyota agency. If it wasn't the body shop, I am hoping to have it covered by the Prius Chat platinum warranty.
When presenting this to the body shop or the Toyota agency, i would like to be as informed as possible about what the possibilities are.
The problem is that some of the steering wheel controls are not working. Some of the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel are not responding. The Info button does not work, and the climate related buttons on the bottom get no response. The Map button and all the bluetooth phone buttons do work.
At first, there was a delayed response when using the Info button. The next day, it stopped responding at all.
OK, so I bought a new Camry (2004) and realized after the fact that the lumbar was all the way forward and not working.
So, like an idiot, I pooped the switch/button off, and tried to make a jumper to see if that would get the motor going.
Well, it sparked and now none of my electric seat controls work.
I have looked at every fuse in both of the fuse boxes and none of them are blown.
Have I just fried my entire electric seat?
Where the fuse is for the auto trunk closing system? The auto close feature suddenly stopped working.
View 3 RepliesBackground (not sure if it's relevant): My car was in the body shop for 13 days. I got it back on 8/24. Damage was too the bottom right side, doors and adjacent body.
When i picked up the car and drove it, it seemed fine except that the MPG average was only 25mpg. Normally for me, it's around 38 to 40. It has gradually come back up. for this reason, i was frequently pressing the Info button on the steering wheel to bring up the screen that shows the current mpg average.
What controls the trunk light? Usually there is a contact switch near the trunk lid but I have not been able to find it on my Passat.
View 4 RepliesMy steering wheel controls on the lower half quit working last year , then the cruise control quit intermittently last month , then the air bag light starts appearing last week. Deciding this means a failed clock spring / spiral cable , I took apart my spiral cable housing, and found two obvious breaks in the electrical wiring . I first bought a salvage unit on Ebay, to find it arrived bound, didn't turn freely (and no returns from seller). I then bought one from the dealer and installed it last week and very happily have all symptoms fixed!
The replacement was easier than I expected, the steering wheel was not actually very tight, I doubt I needed the steering wheel puller I 'borrowed' from the parts store , could have just loosed the main nut, wiggled and tugged it loose. Just a note be sure to remove 12 volt power from the car, and mark the steering wheel center shaft to the steering wheel for reinstall .
As a rural mail carrier I deliver mail out of my prius with the window down, traveling about 5 hours a day on dusty ,sand roads in Kansas. The car interior gets dusty and this caused the failure of the spiral cable.
Pic's of the old failed unit, the new one comes with some lubricant, white perhaps lithium grease for the ribbons/ wheels, mine had dryed up patches of grease, some I cleaned off the ribbons before the pictures where taken. I'll check the new one in a year, may regrease , cleaning it out to try to prevent this from happening again. I did add some plastic under the airbag to improvise a dust shield for the new spiral cable. Car has 197k bought it with 106k , now has around 60 k from driving on the route.
Lately I've been having issues with my windows, door locks and power mirrors not working. Here are the symptoms;
What works;
Driver window Sunroof Key fob unlock/lock (Also all of the doors unlock when I open the door)
What does NOT work;
All passenger windows (they were working intermittently before but now none of them work) Door locks from any panel (Sometimes I can unlock the doors but can never lock them) Side view mirror controls
Seems like it could be a faulty ecu. Plan on removing the door this weekend to inspect everything.
Just bought an '06 Phaeton and have been studying the manuals. The button directly below the clock and above the emergency flasher is labeled as "temperature controls for center air outlets" in manual 3.1.1 and refers you to 3.1.2 for explanation. But there is nothing about it there. Whatsit do? Does it over-ride the temperature set with the climate on the Infotainment screen?
View 2 RepliesI have a question regarding the HUD display and the steering wheel audio controls. According to the manual there should be a audi menu in the HUD control by the steering wheel controls. I don't seem to see one? I have the upgraded audio with digital. I checked the TOC and can't seem to find anything about this. Am I missing something?

View 3 RepliesMy 04 was in for blown subwoofer replacements. After that, the drivers headrest is not working. I suspect one of the techs might have been leaning on the switch and fried the motor. All other seat functions are OK. Is there a separate (buried) fuse for the headrest motor? Is it next to impossible to get to?? Also, I'm going to start trying to dissasemble the dash to get to the A/C vent cover motors. I have parts ordered, and I'll try to keep you all informed. Should be interesting.

View 24 RepliesI've recently purchased a MY2004 V10 TDI (one previous owner) and I'm very happy with it. When I press the VEHICLE button below the center console screen, a message appears stating 'Tire pressure monitoring system not available'.
I really hate having buttons that don't 'do' anything, so I'd like to know if the TPMS is simply an option my car doesn't have or if it is equipped with the system but the sensors are malfunctioning. I've tried pressing the button at different times (cold start, after driving etc.) but it always says the same thing.
If my car doesn't have this system, is it possible to retrofit it and would that be expensive?
I have one problem, my trunk does not close, I close but it is not closed, the system does not close and the door is open.
