My 04 UK Phaeton V10 has developed the following problem. 1 rear parking distance sensor is faulty (awaiting new part) but all was well even so until 3 days ago. Fault is as follows:
In reverse gear, displays 2 red lights in each corner, no sound, at any distance from an object. Place in drive, I get 2 green lights in both front displays which go away as normal.
Feb. 2, 2010, I had my '04 Phaeton in for service (88,997 mi) because it would not start. After diagnosis, found faulty brake switch and shifter mechanism. Removed and replaced brake switch, shifter assy, and PRNDL sensor. On Feb. 17, '10, after I started car, it sounded like it was in wrong gear and all drives were lit on dash. Turned off, started again and everything was OK. Called service tech to let him know; he said he would notify mechanic.
On Fri., 19 Mar. '10 at around 2:15 p.m., was driving and noticed again that all drive lights were lit on dash. Pulled off road, turned off motor, started again, and everything seemed OK. Went farther down road, entered super highway, pressed accel. to pass tractor-trailer, only to notice all gears were again lit, as well as a new engine outline (in orange). As I was passing the truck, car surged forward and then made a loud clunk, I drove at 60 on the 70 mph rd. to get to rest area. Turned off motor, looked in manual and it stated car should be taken to dealer. Since it was still "drivable" and I didn't need a tow, I tried calling the dealer 4 times, but only got through to an answering machine. I decided to take car to dealer.
When I arrived, I spoke to the only service writer at the desk, and he was new. Told me they were too busy to take my car that day. I asked to speak to VW service manager, and he said I should not drive car. Car now has 91,509 mi.
I was wondering, why all gear lights keep coming on at the same time, and why the car feels like it has to shift to the next gear. I am thinking the repairs on Feb.2 were not complete.
I just had a problem come up a few weeks ago where the check lights indicator comes on. We've narrowed down the problem to the white reverse lights not coming on when the car is in reverse.
I had my Phaeton mechanic look at it and he could not find the problem although apparently there is a resistance difference between the brake lights and reverse lights leading him to believe it may be the bulb holders (they are corroded).
The reverse lights connect to many modules so it could be anything.
When I turn the cruise control on, a green "cruise" lights up in the center display. When I "set" the cruise so it actually holds my speed; no additional lights come on to indicate the cruise is set. I was wondering if this is normal or should there be one light to indicate the cruise system is on and another when the cruise is set. My Phaeton has the standard cruise and does not adjust for distance.
View 1 RepliesMy 2013 tiguan dsg blue motion tdi 4 motion traveled around 75mile when going down a steep hill suddenly slowed as if I hit the brakes and the little spanner lit up on the centre display, when I tried to accelerate up the hill it jumped 2nd & 4th gears for the next 2mile, when I stopped it would not engage reverse gear, I turned off the engine, after a few minutes restarted then all was back to normal as if nothing had happened.
View 4 RepliesMy reverse lights aren't working. I assume the trunk cable assembly is fine, as all my trunk opening and latching works and there is no viable damage to the cable. I figured the bulbs were burned out but I pulled the trunk liner today and at least one of the bulbs looks intact. I don't see any fuse listed for reverse lights.
View 2 RepliesI'm wiring up a backup camera, which comes with a voltage sense lead so it automatically turns on/off with the backup lights. What is the fuse location for the backup/reverse lights, or the physical location (and color) of the hot wire for the backup lights, so I can tap into that?
View 16 RepliesThe instrument cluster screen in my 2004 phaeton suddenly stopped displaying anything today, I've tried removing and replacing fuses but still nothing, not even the backlight for the display is on, everything else is working fine its just the display. I need the car for a 600mi trip in 2 days.
View 3 RepliesMy 2004 phaeton outside temperature reading will increase to over 100F while I'm sitting in traffic when the temp is in the 60s 70s.... Highest I've seen is 102F... I wonder how high the display will go when summer comes around. Where is the sensor located? Could engine heat affect the sensor? While driving the temp reads about 5 degrees to high.
View 8 RepliesOne of my issues is a "level fault workshop" message and abs/ esp lights that only appear once I put the car in gear and start moving.
The car does seem to raise and lower normally and there doesn't seem to lose height over night.
To check if it's a particular wheel height sensor, what controller should I scan in vcds? Nothing related to suspension came up in my full auto scan.
I did have an intermittent brake light switch code, could that generate the level fault?.
My reverse lights and back up alarm will not engage unless i hold up on the shifter while in reverse the only thing i found was a adjuster for the indicator....
View 14 RepliesToyota corolla 2013 automatic gear reverse lights don't work after I installed new stereo it's my fault i shorted 12v positive backup (reverse) light trigger camera stereo v12+ cable to ground while backup (gear R) in place. As a result reserve lights don't work beside gear indicator doesn't show on main screen. I can drive without problem but problem still intact.
I checked all fuses and they are all okay I need to identify problem or possible repair too I only find 2 fuses behind glove box i think they call "instrument panel" there are bunch of cable and underneath of cables there is only 2 rectangle shape fuses I could not see anything else, the other fuse box is in engine compartment i thoroughly tested each small fuses they are all okay is there anything else i forgot to check ?

I have noticed that I have to hold my gear selector towards park to get the reverse lights to come on. Also some times I have to hold it towards park to get it to start. I changed my tranny in Dec 2009 and occasionally it would do this while starting, just noticed the reverse lights about a week ago. Tried moving the cable where it attaches to the tranny a couple of serrations each direction. No luck. Is there another place I can make an adjustment?

I've replaced the pcv valve and got the maf checked(good). What could be going on?
This 04 phaeton I am working on will not shift into gear. It physically moves to any gear but does not shift. First guess was that the fluid level was low. I checked and added 1qt of fluid at 38deg C. Transmission will not shift into gear. I let the fluid get to 58degC and still same. Checked codes and god p0762 Reverse gear incorrect ratio. I put it in drive or reverse and rev the car to 4000rpm and the wheels do not turn. I am guessing it needs a transmission.

View 2 RepliesFor some reason when GX470 is parked, it does not want to reverse when slipped into gear. I have to apply a some pressure on the gas pedal and than it moves with a loud thud like noise, I have noticed it when the GX is parked for 24-36 hours.
We leave here in N-CAL and weather cant be an issue. Besides it always parked in the garage.
The reverse gear in my F150 has started slipping all of a sudden, with no noise or notice. All forwards gears are functioning properly. If I rev up the motor in reverse it seems like it wants to go, but I get the wrench light/safe mode and it now has a P0720 code. I've done some research and replaced the Output Speed Sensor and replaced the tansmission fuild and filter. I cleared the codes once before I changed the sensor, and now my reader indicated the the P0720 is "Pending". Do I have to keep trying to use reverse? Drive it more? Plus it looked like after driving it today that I might have overfilled the transmission.
View 2 Replies Filled the tank the other day. After driving 180 or so miles I got a check engine light and also the ESP "OFF" light. I also was getting some hesitation when starting from a complete stop. Now the car will start and idle for about 10-20 seconds then die. I'll turn it off and it will start again with the same result. Is there a main and secondary fuel pump? I'm guessing possible fuel pump or MAF sensor issues. I'm pulling the MAF sensors in the morning and cleaning them.

I prefer to work on my cares myself and have wrenched for years, Have had Audi for years and the Phaeton was a bucket list item.
Reverse lights don't come on. Replaced reverse/neutral safety switch. Still lights don't come on. 2004 f150 fx4.
