Want to take a 2001 Audi TT Quattro steering wheel... only horn... no switches, and swap it with the passats steering wheel, same setup just a horn on the passat steering wheel.
Is this possible to do safely, and do the harness is the same so i dont plug in new steering wheel and have the car blow all the airbags or throw codes?
When I drive on the highway usually between 60-70mph there is a noticeable vibration similar to when a wheel is off balance. I just mounted a new set of wheels (with tires) which were just balanced and it still does it. I had the dealer do an inspection of the suspension while it was in for the recall but they found nothing unusual.
Could this be a strut bearing that went bad? Over a year ago I did hit a very big pothole that bent one of my aftermarket wheels, I had an alignment done afterwards too. However, I first noticed the vibration about 2 months ago while the stock 18" wheels were on.
I get this noise, AT TIMES, on cold starts which sounds similar to a knock. It lasts for maybe a couple of seconds at most. It's not the FI ticking that is generally always present. I see where other models (engines) have reported start up noise but nothing on the 460.
View 2 RepliesMy car is Stage 2+ (mods are in signature). I noticed today a hissing noise coming from the rear of the car when my music was turned off. The sound is very similar to turbo spool but I'm 100% positive it is coming from the rear of the car not the bay. The noise does not show up until I hit 3rd gear and from then up it only makes noise when I'm accelerating. Under any load the noise stays the same. I can accelerate slow or accelerate a little harder and the hissing noise remains constant. The only two things that I can think of are the flapper valve on the SPM exhaust and the rear diff. However, I don't see why the flapper valve on SPM's exhaust would be affected by a certain gear.
View 4 RepliesI have a Mk6 GTI 2010 and recently there has been some noise coming from the rear of the car and the noise changes with speed and sounds similar to a wheel bearing.. So I jacked up the rear and found that there was play in the passenger rear wheel.. The bolt holding the hub together was tight..
View 2 RepliesGot a shudder noise similar to an exhaust leak on my Excursion V10. I have no codes ... engine idles and revs fine.. Only hear noise when under load. Goes away when you let off the gas.

View 8 RepliesI have a '99 Frontier (3.3L V6) just had the radiator, hoses, fan clutch and 3 exterior belts replaced. Car's not overheating anymore, BUT, now I hear intermittently a "clack" (which sounds similar to a loud compressor when it shuts on and off). Car never made this sound before the repairs mentioned above were made.
I took pictures and could use finding out what the part is called that is making the noise. I see the 3 discs on the front side of one of the belt pulleys (i think?) spinning, then they will stop, making the clack sound. It seems to me that sometimes the sound is loud and then other times it is extra loud --are there two sets of these discs and the other set is somewhere I can't see?
Our 2007 Grand Caravan with a 3.3 Liter Engine has intermittent vibration which feels similar to driving over rumble bars. It usually occurs between 30-50 mph but sometimes at 70-80 mph as well. Have had the suspension checked and had outer tie rod end replaced. Also had sway bar bushings replaced and front end aligned. We then brought it to transmission shop and had a transmission diagnostic performed. They found no faults with the transmission and thought the engine needed a tune-up which we did with no success. At a recent oil change, we asked for them to test drive it and check again for any suspension problems. They did not notice any vibration during the test drive and found no problems with the suspension.
View 4 RepliesI've noticed that potentially my heat shield or whatever guard that is 1 step toward the front of the car from where the inlet pipe connects to the exhaust system may be the reason for my rattle at 2k and 3k rpms. i think its a heat shield but I am not sure. the thing is it seems properly mounted, nothing is cracked/broken/or loose. But when I do try and wiggle it it does make a slight creaking noise that sounds similar to the rattle I get. So I could foresee this as being my issue.
But, is there anyway to fix this rattle w/out just taking off the part? i figure its there for a reason and it looks like its held on in 2 places. But they're not nuts they almost look like spot welds or something. 1 on each side. What to do?
Something to get you all in here:
Every time I start my 1999 Ford Explorer It makes a loud beeping noise similar to seatbelt warning sound. Every 30 minutes or so it does it again as long as the vehicle stays running(even with all seatbelts fastened even if no one is sitting in the seat.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2004 Honda Element and when the AC compressor cycles on it makes a high pitched noise similar to a drive belt slipping. The AC is still cold and the noise is not overwhelming (yet). I know this vehicle has a serpentine belt and that doesn't appear to be making any noise. The only noise is when the compressor is running.
Is there a belt that drives the compressor (other than the serpentine)? And, is this something that I should get fixed ASAP or can it wait until my next oil change? Meaning, if I wait until the oil change (under 1,800 miles) will hurt anything?
I have a 1995 Audi A6 Quattro that has 225K miles on it. I bought it two years ago with 160K miles, and for a while I was driving 500+ miles a week. Shortly after I got the car, the power windows began to work intermittently. My mechanic couldn't find the problem and suggested I take it to a dealer, but I decided that it wasn't a big deal to just walk inside of Starbucks instead of going through the drive through. Now, the air conditioning fan is doing the same thing. Sometimes it works, but sometimes not. It is more likely to work first thing in the morning after spending the night in a cool garage, and less likely to work after I've driven somewhere and I am coming home. Fall is coming so I'm less concerned about it, but I know that as soon as we get our first snowfall, I'm going to need that fan working to defrost the windows and warm the car.
View 3 RepliesI assume that it is here someplace, but I did a search and couldn't find it. Is there some information available to compare the Phaeton with the Audi models? I understand that they are similar, but the Phaeton has many options included (especially the W12's), where the Audi has them as options. Is this the case?
View 15 RepliesFor three years, the headlights on my wife's 2005 Audi A8 sporadically stay on once the car is turned off. The car only has 27,000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained. My wife keeps the light switch in the "auto" position. Once in a while when she turns the car off the lights stay on and remain on no matter what she does -- turning the light switch to "off" or in other positions, turning the car on and off again, etc..Eventually the lights will go off if she fools around with them enough but sometimes she doesn't notice they have remained on and the battery has gone dead.
We have had the car in to the dealer many times for this problem and for a while they told us they could not re-create the problem and didn't know what to do. Then they told us they ran a computer printout and found there was a bad signal being sent to the ignition. Replacing the ignition did not fix the problem. Now they are telling us they can not re-create the problem again now what to do.They say they have never seen this problem but these are the same people that told us there was no problem with the motor which opens the trunk -- until Audi came out with a totally re-designed trunk motor.
On a 2005 Audi A4, 1.8 T... The Audi dealership found a 'fault for transmission control module' (the transmission slips), and a fault for vacuum leak ('crank case venting components dry rotted'). How much should it cost to repair each of these? My partner would prefer to get rid of the car if repairs add up to $4,000 or more, as the dealer would like to charge. The car has 44,000 miles on the odometer.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2002 Audi A4 V6 - two weeks ago the oil pressure light came on - I pulled over checked the oil (it was OK) started the car back up and the light was gone. this has happened 5 or 6 times in the last two weeks. I either turn the engine off and restart and it's gone or it comes on, chimes three times, and then goes off. no real pattern except the car needs to be running for at last 20 minutes and it happens between 20 mph and 40 mph never at high speed or at idle.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2003 audi a4 1.8t Quattro. The car will only start if I jump the starter solenoid and will only run for a few seconds and shut off. I have a new battery in it and a few relays.
View 2 Replies2005 Audi with 76000 miles, bought with an oil leak, O ring changed, still leaks, rear seal replaced, and then front seal on drivers side and then front seal on passengers side, then replaced same seal on passengers side, now rear seal leaking again..having it changed. Why?? Or what I need to do? Its being done at the dealership....
