Passat (B7) :: Wet Windscreen Sensors Non Operative
Apr 1, 2012
The 2012 PASSAT has the built in facility to operate the winsdcreen wipers and adjust the rear view mirror for bright lights. Why delivery cars having this function enabled? Dealer outright refuses to activate them, even though they appear to be the exact same as in the 2012 EOS.

My 2004 has suddenly decided I should drive with dome lights on all the time, as if starring in an episode of COPS. Seems something is reading my driver door is not closed, even though it is closed. Besides lights on, unable to use controls to roll down window or lock vehicle. Also, there is now a whistle emanating from the bowels of this silver beast. Seems back near the fire wall or underneath. Sadly, this 2004 JGC does not even have 150,000 miles and things are going south for the winter to retire in Florida. Had one form 1993 and it lasted over 400,000 miles and my 1999 had 250,000 before I met Mr. Ice. On top of these goings on's the right rear wheel is causing a scraping noise, but not 100% of the time.

Would having the cup holder replaced on an 08 Wagon with the non climatronic ac system require the disconnection of the right hand side selector that controls where the air comes out.
Just noticed today that no matter what position it's in the air only comes out on the windscreen vents and the two side vents on either end of the dash.

I have a 1998 Passat 1.8 T with 137k miles on it that has been throwing the P0422 code. I've reset it at Schuck's and it has come back. Car is running fine and no rattle in the catalytic converter. Although it could still be the cat, it could just as well be something with the O2 sensors. Don't have a VAG-COM tool to check them directly. Is there some way other way to determine which O2 sensor it might be and/or if it is really the cat?

So I just installed a new set of brakes on the front end of my car.
Every once in a while now the sensor trips and I get that lovely yellow circle image on my dash.
The pads are BRAND NEW! I clipped the sensors into their spot once I installed the pads. Should I tape them down?
Other than the wire connection between the pad and the car... what could be tripping this light?

I have only had my car for about a month and i just realized that my wipers don't work. The mist setting, and constant 1 and 2 work also. But when i set it to the rain sensing mode and move the lever either way it will not work even in a down pore.

Purchasing snow tires with OEM rims and trying not to have to purchase a new set of wheel pressure sensors - hence my question: Can the wheel air pressure sensor alert be disabled to do away with that nagging info?

I have a problem with my 2006 Phaeton. This night I found one of the headlights color is red, almost purple, the right one, the left has no problems. I suspect the windscreen reservoir is leaking, because I have put yesterday 4L of windscreen fluid and now I have this problem. The reservoir is located near the right headlight. I have emptied the reservoir right away and waited for 2 or 3 hours but when I tried the color of the right headlight was the same. How can this problem can be resolved and what exactly may be broken in the xenon system.

I love my car but under 25 degrees it freezes up. My windscreen ices on the inside like the old time movie windows. My defroster only clears the center area leaving me an oval to look out. Takes forever to clear frost. Granted the weather is ridiculous in the north east. Second no matter how much snow is cleared as soon as I open the door, whoosh it's all sucked in on my seat. Next my clutch sticks in this cold weather, have to run heat on my feet. The bottom first inch of travel it sticks making shifting a chore until warm enough. The stock Pirellis turn into hockey pucks at 30 degrees. They stiffen up bad in the cold. I know they are all seasons but damn. The wipers also build up a ton of ice by the A pillars and where they sit by the hood. Steadily decreasing the amount I can see out and have to stop a lot. The ice under the wipers freezes into a huge chunk. Makes it a fight to remove the glacier. Just things I've noticed, never had any of these annoyances in any other vehicle.

One area we have been disappointed with is the lack of sufficient tension on the windscreen wipers. The local dealer broke the plastic replacing the blade which did nothing to correct the problem. The rear wiper is just as bad, leaving a large area never swiped. The driver side blade leaves a large half bubble shaped area un-wiped in front of the driver.

I have just inherited a 1987 740 GL from my father and whilst I was playing around with the switches etc I discovered that the vent control lever is stuck on the windscreen demister?
Is this a quick fix ? If I do need to is there a service manual available that I can easily get?

I have had my Santa Fe for 3 months now and have just noticed recently (due to the cold wet weather) that when it is raining my windscreen fogs up when the climate control is set to auto. This never happened in my previous car (VW Golf GTI). I always drive with climate control set to auto and temp set to 23 degrees C. When the windscreen fogs up I have to set A/C to on to demist it. The temperature is then totally different. I can only get a clear windscreen with A/C on, no matter what mode. E.g. If I just have front demister with no A/C then I fog up. If I have blowers set to windscreen and no A/C I fog up. Having A/C on with any mode is fine! When the windscreen is clear and I set the climate control back to auto then the windscreen fogs up almost immediately again.
This seems a bit rubbish to me. I would have thought that having the climate control set to auto is all that is required (like my previous car). I don't want to drive with A/C on when it is raining and auto when it is not. I just want to keep it in one mode.

when i use the squirter for the water on the windscreen i get full pressure for a second then it drops to barely any pressure at all. I thought it was the jets so i checked them with a drawing pin and they flow fine. Are there 2 motors that operate the squirter , is it likely one has gone?

For the past few weeks, I've been struggling to find out why my windscreen keeps getting a light oily film after using the washer fluid (RAIN-X de-icer, which I've used for years). I replaced the wiper blades this past spring with an OEM/dealer set (worked perfectly), but recently noticed a streak from the right wiper that basically draws a vertical line right in front of my (driver's) line of sight. That is, when the right wiper comes all the way left before returning, it's that position of the blade that leaves an oily streak behind. Very annoying.
I first thought it was just road/winter dirt, but then went to a gas station, and touched the screen. It was oily. Further to that, it had an oily build-up on the blades (wiping them off with paper towel got all this black gunk off). I also noticed that the run-off on the lower part of the windscreen was oily too.
On top of that, the wiper arms had an oily film on them, which I'm wondering if it is a result of something from the wiper fluid, the resevoir, a pump issue, etc.
I do not see any leaks of the washer fluid on the ground. Is there some way that the washer fluid is getting contaminated with a light grade oil that is then being dispersed on my windscreen?? This is really weird, but is also very frustrating, especially when the weather in winter requires increased usage of the fluid.
