Got the TPMS light after ~1,000 miles of driving. Checked the pressure on all four and all read around 32psi. Pumped all up a few pounds, held the reset TPMS button in the glove box for 2 seconds with the ignition off. Now about a week later, I have the light on again and all 4 tires appear to be fine visually. What gives?
View 6 RepliesMy tpms light came on tonight after 15 minutes of freeway driving. I checked the pressure in all 4 tires, and they were all right about 36 lbs. The door jamb tire info says 33 lbs cold, so this seems about right to me. why the tpms light might have come on? Is the spare tire hooked up to the tpms system? My Passat is only 1 month old, so I'm surprised the light came on.
View 8 RepliesI've got nearing 160,000 miles on my GLS and the first 150k were absolutely flawless. However, I have recently noticed I'm losing nearly 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. The exhaust isn't smoking and there is no noticeable oil leaking inside the engine bay. Where it might be going?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2004 VR6 GTI and it's burning around a quart every 1000 miles. I understand that it could be the notorious piston ring issue, but I am running heavyweight oil and it still seems to be burning. I'm currently running 20w-50 (That is what the previous owner was running and I figured I shouldn't switch it up). There doesn't seem to be a leak either... Are any additives worth a shot?
View 10 RepliesI had my timing chain tensioner replaced. When they do this do they touch the serpentine belt tensioner? 1000 miles after the timing replaced, my serpentine belt shredded and they say I need a new serpentine belt tensioner. Does this sound correct?
View 3 RepliesMy 2013 Subaru outback four-cylinder is burning 2/3 of a quart of oil per 1000 miles. It is not leaking anywhere so I know it is burning the oil. The dealership says I need to replace the engine, I'm just wondering is it bad on anything else in the car if I keep driving it for a little while before replacing it? how much longer I could go?
FYI: The power train warranty is void because of rear end damage and a rebuilt title.

View 19 RepliesMy 2002 Jeep GC (4.7 HO) is losing about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I've replaced the PCV elbow and this didn't work at all. There are no leaks underneath or anywhere else I can find. I never have blue exhaust either. I'm completely at a loss.
View 5 RepliesI wanted to change oil at 1000 miles on my new 2010 FX4. The dealer said that I should wait till 2500 miles or so because it still has the break in oil in it.
Does he know what he is talking about or should I change it? He did say he would change it and take my money if I really wanted to.
Maybe my thinking is still old school about changing the oil right away with a new engine.
I have 120K on my 2004 V6 and have been driving with the Exhaust light on steady for about 1000 miles. Tonight after filling up at my usual Chevron with Techron Premium gas station, my engine started stalling and I lurched the 2 miles home. I took off the gas cap to see if reclosing it changed things and it did not. I had the coil pack recall work done 30K miles ago. I'm thinking fuel pump, having it towed to the shop?
View 2 Replies2011 Subaru outback with 49000 miles. Regular oil changes every 5000 miles with Subaru filters. After the last oil change at 45000 miles the engine started shuddering when reversing from garage at @48300 miles. Once warmed up drives okay. Within a week it threw up code 0028 and found engine oil jelled up. Drained, flushed and replaced oil. I replaced the oil pressure switch and solenoid just in case. Code came back with less than 1000 miles after oil change. Can't understand the reason for jelling. Have been using Castrol GTX 5-30 all the time with Subaru OEM filters.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2009 Toyota Matrix that has 127,000 miles on it. It has had several sources of oil loss in the past year and now it just seems to be burning it. I am very skeptical that a toyota engine is burning oil at 127,000miles. I replaced a part called a pcv valve as well as a seal that was causing leakage. Now I am losing about a quart every 1000 miles and no leaks can be found. Any other things that would cause oil loss besides burning?
View 9 RepliesMy 2006 2.0T Passat is starting to give me the steering column errors. I've seen a couple people saying that the problem was rectified by a new battery. Seeing the car is out of warranty and this would be the 6th winter for the battery, I think it's probably good idea to try a new battery to see if it does the trick before going to the dealer. I've never changed a battery before, so what does it all involve? I have a 12V battery from my back up sump pump that I can use to keep the power up when I change the battery. I imagine that I'll just connect the back up battery to the leads, then disconnect the old battery, pull it out, put in the new battery, connect the leads to the new battery, and disconnect the back up battery. Does this sound reasonable? Is there a bolt(s) securing the battery in place that needs to be loosened before I can pull the old battery out of the bay?
View 4 RepliesGot my brand new passat one month now: it's a 1.9 TDI, 105hp saloon. From day one I have been noticing power drops right at 2100 rpm, but not very frequently. The power drop is very very short in time, but strong (you can feel your head going forward goes you don't expect this). Today at 4000km (2485 miles), the power drops happen more frequently. Yesterday I had it 4 times in 125 miles.
- They're always right at 2100rpm, never lower, never higher.
- In any gear (had the problem in 2, 3, 4 and 5th gear).
- Always when keeping round the same speed, I never had a power drop when accelerating.
Problem is that I can not reproduce the problem myself, it sometimes just happens. The vw dealer doesn't find any issues when reading the cpu and doesn't notice it when test driving (test drives are to short).
I have a whistle noise which I can hear since a month, it comes only when : - I drove more than 20 miles ( related to warming up of a piece of the car ? ) - I drive at least at 30 mph - Same noise If I switch to "neutral" position - Same noise if I'm braking or not, just related to the current speed - The noise is coming from the outside, but the high pitch makes it hard to locate...

View 8 RepliesYesterday, I swapped my OEM 18" setup for new 17" winter wheels and tires (set at 37.5 PSI at 55 F)). Today I drove 30 miles and then my TPMS light came on (Temp=36F). Pulled over, checked pressure - all tires at 36.5 PSI.
View 6 RepliesEarlier this winter and last year, the forum had discussed the occasional fast idle in the 3.6L. Symptoms include the engine idling at 950-1000 RPM and the car feeling like it wants to surge forward. I had the problem twice during heavy snowstorms in February, but nothing really since...until this past week.
The weather here in Chicago has been in the early 90s and I've had the AC cranked. At the same point, I've had the fast idle event occur at least 5-6 times in the past week. Almost every time it has occurred while moving in very heavy traffic. Have others seen something similar in very hot weather?
I have a 2006 2.0 tdi 170 dpf passat. Some times the revs rise to 900-1000 rpm and the engine sounds more noisy than normal. Then the revs go back to normal at 800 rmp and the engine sounds normal, What can be the cause of this??

In January, I put on Continental DWS tires on the Phaeton and soon thereafter noticed a vibration in the car while driving. I could feel it in the steering wheel and could see the passenger headrest vibrating as well.
I saw some posts on these tires from other Phaeton owners saying that they also experienced some vibration, so that's what I thought it was.
At least that's what I thought until I went to the dealer for an oil change. I asked them to check wheel balancing and they told me at least 2 of the tires were way out of balance and they fixed it but there is still some vibration.
They did a test drive and said since the vibration is coming from the center of the car, it could be the driveshaft? They told me it's a problem with the Touregs but not with the Phaeton.
It's been killing an otherwise great ride for the last 6 months.
Also, I had my TPMS sensors replaced last year and it's been working great.
However last week, it went off, I clicked to reset and it reset with both rear tires and trunk showing OK. The front tires show a reading but instead of OK beside both, it's completely blank and the damn TPMS goes off every time I start the car.
I have a 2000 b5 wagon with a 2.8 5spd with 200k on it .... Its slammed on coils and i get this squealing in reverse i dont know what it is i just rebuilt the front end ie control arms... also have a nasty vibration from 1000rpms to 3000 rpms could that be engine mounts/snub mount?
