Passat (B7) :: Side Mirrors Become Moot In Rain
Sep 23, 2013
Dunno about you but during a rainstorm I cannot see a damned thing. It's something about the aerodynamics of my car that causes the water to run up the window in such a way that the side mirrors become moot.

When I was in Vancouver last week some punk knocked my driver side side mirror off to the ground I need a replacement (I have a '99 B5 Passat) and I have a few question:
(1) The powered mirror mechanism is still working flawlessly. Can I just replace the cover/housing and the mirror? Or do I need to replace the whole side mirror unit? How much would that be for each of these options?
(2) If I have to replace the whole unit, I'm thinking about replacing both side mirrors with the B5 Audi S4 aluminum side mirror units. Will they fit on a B5 Passat? Is there any pics online that I can look at the the result? And, how much will they be?

For some strange reason, my side-view mirror (passenger) stopped angling down when in reverse . . .

So I recently noticed that my mirrors are shaking, like the glass part of the mirror is "falling off the adhesive" that's the best way I can describe it. I know mirror shaking with heavy bass and rough roads but this is like.. shaking in the wind. Is there any kind of adhesive or fix that can work with the heated mirrors?

99 passat, 1.8T wagon. We had so much rain recently, as a result driver's side carpet in my passat is wet. It' is mostly in the front but there are some wet areas on the back too. Nothing on passenger side. Where to look for first, any common problems with water leaks on this car?

When it rains I get puddles inside on the passenger side. I haven't seen where it enters but it doesn't appear to be from the moon roof, or the windows (doors seem dry) so I assume it's from one of the doors but the weatherstripping looks to be intact. It looks like there's a rubber outlet in the hinge area of the front door - could it be from there?

I just got a new Passat (2007) on May 19, less than 2 months ago as of this posting. I love the car, but whenever it rains, or following rain, I have a problem with water dripping down into the driver's side whenever I have the window cracked open. At first I thought, No big deal. However, now my right rear power window and the safety lock to all the windows has stopped working.
BUT...I opened my mouth and mentioned the water problem, to which the Service Advisor responded, "I'm going to pretend that I didn't hear that." This suggests to me that, possibly, the dealership would try to screw me otherwise and say that the window failed because of water (an OUTSIDE influence)...Thus far, my local dealership (and the Service Advisor) have been top-notch.
First of all, is it possible that they'll try to say I should've had my window completely up during rain, and therefore water shorted out the switch? My argument (if it comes to that) is that even several hours after rainfall, water from the roof drips into the car, and some gets on the armrest where the controls are located. Am I in for a showdown? I would think that the buttons would be sealed to prevent water from affecting the electronics underneath.

We had a big rain storm the other night and I didn't drive my car today. So I get in after I get home and notice a god damn flood on my driver side front floor I made sure the drains in the rain tray were clear the other night when I first got the car. Is this more than likely coming from the sunroof drain? I ran some water down the sunroof drain while it was open and it seemed to come out. The water looked to be coming from where the hood release is as there were a few drips right below it.

It happened twice since June when we (central NJ) have had really heavy rains. My front passenger side carpet becomes absolutely soaked, but everything else stays completely dry. Do you think the rubber trim has failed? A regular wash is fine, nothing gets in from that. My car is a 2006 B6 with about 97k on it. It's weird.

2001 Passat Wagon ... After a heavy rain last night I noticed a very wet driver side floor area. My car was parked and I've never noticed any wetness while driving. What are the steps to take to figure out where the leak is?

I'm replacing tow mirrors on my 2004 F250 with 2008 mirrors. Both are factory Ford mirrors. Need wiring diagram since connectors and wires are different. They both have power mirrors, turn signals, heated mirrors, but are not power retract or fold.

I have a 2003 Camry LE. A replacement drivers side exterior door handle was installed yesterday. The battery was disconnected. Today neither of the side view mirrors work.
(re: checking fuse. Where located & initials on the cover? I don't see it in the manual ).
PS- My girl has 189,000 miles. She has never stalled, sputtered, hesitated. A testament to regular basic upkeep.

I purchased an '04 Silverado V8 with 50K miles for my wife and then got an '06 White V8 for myself. In the owner's manual there is an oblique reference to the side mirrors angling down while in reverse to aid parking. My wife's car seems to do this whereas mine does not. I assume I need to set up this feature somehow but I can't for the life of me find it in the manual.

If you have turn the engine off if there is a way to close the windows and the side mirrors without putting the key in the lock. Under the steering wheel there are 2 small switches, left and right. When I press the one on the left the light on the steering wheel goes on and off. What the one on the right do???

I have not found a way to fold them. But if not, is it likely to be damaged during automatic car wash?

The 2 side mirrors get "lazy" after not adjusting them for a while, and won't respond to the electric lever on the driver's door. Even in the summer, I find myself playing with the lever for a long minute before it starts responding at all, usually I'll be moving it vertically all the way up and down, before it will respond also to any horizontal adjustment....

There's a light under both side mirrors that is supposed to light up when the car is unlocked or when a door is open. However, my lovely Egg doesn't do this. Is there a button on my space ship that i have to push?

For those of you with power folding mirrors on their Golf VIs: Do you ever experience unfolding lag? Mine sometimes take up to 2 mins to unfold after moving the rotary switch, while other times they unfold instantly.

Over the past 6 months my side view mirrors have been getting finicky about tilting down. In other directions they move fine (left, right, up).
I just tried replacing the mirror switch, and it didn't fix anything; the exact same symptoms are there. Here's what I observe
* Neither the driver nor passenger side mirrors will aim down
* Left/Right/Up all work fine
* Occasionally (but rarely), they will suddenly work.
* Replacing the switch fixed nothing
* I also checked the wiring from the door to the switch and there were no visible cracks or damage, and the pins were well seated in the plug.
* Holding the mirror control in 'down' and wiggling the wiring makes no difference.
* I have a 2 door '13 Golf R (posting in GTI forum because it's more active).
* I have heated mirrors, but no folding or auto-dip.
I saw a number of posts on mods, and a couple on switch issues but in all of those installing a new switch seemed to do the trick.
