Getting a roaring sound when driving at speeds above 20mph... Almost sounds like loud exhaust, but it does not fluctuate with engine RPM's. 40K on the car - bought one year ago... seems pre-mature to fail that quickly no?
View 16 RepliesSo I think I'm having some issues with my front end. The passenger side seems to be roaring at certain speeds (25-40 and 80+). It's getting cold now and I still don't have much in the way of tools since the company that cleaned out our house after the fire ran off with most of them so I'm more than likely going to have to get it done at the dealership. Is it as easy of a job as I remember or am I forgetting something?

I don't really know how to explain it really. It sounds like there is a motorcycle passing me or like I have a mud tire on that wheel is all. It's normal at the other speeds, but once I hit the "sweet spot" it just drones really bad and I can't even hear the motor. The only way I know to describe it is as a roar, it's really weird.
I started hearing a small rattling sound coming at low speeds while driving. It's a tic tic rattle which almost sounds like a cat, but it only does it while driving and not all the times. I had a smiling noise once on one of my cars and it was a torque converter. It's not the brakes, as applying brakes doesn't work. Also the whole front end is brand new. It motor related. Can a heat shield for a cat come loose?
I'm also dealing with a wind noise coming from a driver side window. My car has the updated thicker windows. The noise goes away if I lower the driver side window just a fraction. So having it closed all the way creates more noise. Other than that wind noise is at a minimum.
Just had a hub get stripped a few weeks back and had to replace the whole hub assembly. Now just a few weeks later, I started developing this strange rubbing, almost scraping sound when backing of the garage in reverse and the diving speeds of like 5-10 mph. It has to be wheel related becuase the sound goes in and out as the wheel goes around.
Put the car up on jack stands , checked fender plastic underneath the wheel wells, dchecked the dust sheild on the rotors, checked the tires out, even spun the rotor around with my hand and I couldn't replicate the sound?
Just Started about 5 days ago and was only noticeable at slow speeds every other day, then today it seemed worse and I can almost hear it when driving 25-35 mph and I'm also starting to feel it in the steering and body of the car as a vibration.
I just want to get this car back running smooth... Just put new suspension on as well, new strut bearings, but I had to reuse the strut mounts because the dealership was out of mounts. Don't think the suspension has anything to do with it, but you never know. How to upload a video... I can see if I can somehow record the sound.
I have a 2007 impreza not wrx or sti and I am hearing a roaring sound coming from the front end.
It has 65k on it and my wife drives fast and hard.
My wife's car is an '05 Camry SE, V-6, 60K miles. Just recently, I start to hear a roaring sound starting about 35-40 mph. It sounds like a rear wheel bearing. I jacked up the front end and ran the car in drive, but did not hear anything unusual. I jacked up the rear and shook the wheels in and out and did not notice any play or wobble. I drove about 45-50 on a straight road and swerved gently from right to left and vice versa, but could not determine where the sound is coming from. How do I narrow my inspection to determine if it is a wheel bearing, and which bearing is bad?
View 11 RepliesI hit a pot hole. Front left tire went flat and wheel damaged. I changed tired and wheel. After that humming or cyclic roaring sound is coming from front of car when speed goes above 30mph. Front middle or front-right side I can't really say for sure exactly from where it is coming but it is front. What it could be. It's not bad so far. I can still drive at 65mph.
View 2 RepliesI drive an '01 Tahoe Burb....latley once I hit about 45 and faster theres a roaring sound...a better description is this...Like a truck thats been lifted with big tires....that kind of roar or hum that the tires make the faster it goes....only I have regular tires..and it isn't coming from the tires....its coming from under the hood.
View 8 RepliesI noticed last night while I was driving the idle speeds were fluctuating, it idled around 600-700 rpm, then would bump up to 850-900 rpms, then dip down to 500 rpms and then back up... the whole car would kinda shudder a little bit... I don't know if this is related but I had the engine running at idle for about 2 hours before driving it, and I observed the strange idle behavior after it had been running that long. My car also stalled twice... once while sitting idle and the other while I was in traffic (bumper-to-bumper, barely moving).
When normal driving, the car is great, just like it used to be, but at idle it exhibits this odd behavior. Does it have something to do with my engine running at idle for so long? Is this a problem I should be concerned with? And lastly...do I have to bring it in for another repair and possibly be without it for more days?
One other thing I ought to mention... I had just put gas in, 93 octane from Sunoco (this particular location I hadn't visited before, but i don't think thats the case) - could it just be bad gasoline? Or maybe could the shop I had left it with have put regular gas in while they had it...
My 2004 V6 has about 21,000 miles, and has run perfectly from day one. However, the last few days I've noticed a whining sound which I think is from the transmission. when I first start out, at very low speeds. I don't think it occurs at higher speeds, but I'm not sure because of road and engine noise. The noise doesn't really bother me--goes away quickly. But is this something I need to have the dealer look at? It's still under warranty.
View 1 RepliesWhen I'm driving low speeds...say under 40. there is a random but frequent rubbing sound coming from the front passenger tire. Previous my driver side coil over blew out and it was replaced by VW and they raised the car. After about a week i noticed the sound. The car also shakes between 55 and 65...so i'm assuming it's a balancing issue. But can't figure out what the rubbing is....ball bearing maybe?
View 5 RepliesWhen starting my car first thing in the morning, for the first few minutes there is a loud roaring seems like. The sound subsides and the car sounds normally after a little bit. The next issue is when I start the car after it is already warm. It starts very strange...It is a little hard to describe. As soon as you hit the starter it just turns over instantly, seems almost prematurely. And when you go to shut the car off, it just seems like it makes a loud noise and the motor abruptly shuts off. I am not too educated with vehicles, and I am just looking for some input. I just purchased this car a week ago with 82,200 miles on it I have never driven a Buick before so these things may be normal.
View 4 RepliesPrius owner. I have 200,000 miles on the car and have done nothing except change the oil, tired and battery. No other maintenance was performed.
While driving straight the front wheel seems to vibrate some and make a whirring/roaring sounds. When turning to the left the noise is greatly reduced. When turning to the right it still exists.
Any potential causes? Possibly the struts? They as well as all the front end components are original.
My wheel bearing in the rear went..as its roaring when driving and shop told me wheel bearing needs replaced. I am a bit handy. Is it a big job to change a rear wheel bearing on a 2002 ford escape 3 litre. What tools would I need...don't need a press for wheel bearing on this model, not sure....
View 1 RepliesI've been noticing some weird, very subtle engine sound changes while driving at highway speeds lately. Something almost like surging, but not. I don't know how to describe it. I might try to make an audio recording next time I take it out so I can explain it.
Anyway, I don't know why but ICP popped into my head. Maybe, for some reason, the engine was varying ICP causing the surging sounds.
So I hooked up AE and did a test. I've attached a screen shot.
With my idle speed actuated as high as it will go, and ICP actuated as high as it can go, I can only get a pressure of about 1450 PSI. I always thought ICP should go higher than that. I seem to recall reading somewhere around 3600 PSI.
So am I misinformed, am I reading the data wrong or do I have a problem? How high should Injector Control Pressure go? I missed it in the screen shot, but ICP is actuated to 100%.
What a great way to start the day! Nice little message on my MFD when I started the car up this morning. It drove to work just fine (which is right by the VW dealership) - but when I turned it off and started it again, the light was gone... Don't want to take any chances so I'll definitely bring it in. On a side note - I'm now hearing a clicking sound at speeds above 40mph. The noise gets faster as the car speeds up.
View 1 RepliesFirst, my g/f and I love her 2.0T, but lately a few things have started to bother us.
1. Strange, rhythmic squeeling at low speeds (like a bearing or warped rotors) that goes away when the brakes are applied.
2. Driver's seat is rocking back and forth under heavy acceleration and braking. I hope it's just a loose bolt and not a crack in the floorpan.
3. Check engine light randomly comes on for a day or two then goes off conveniently after we schedule an appointment with the service department.
What might be causing these issues?
When driving at slow speeds and when I go over a bump in the road, I'll hear something like the metal part of the wheel scraping something as its turning. Only comes from the front drivers side wheel. It's audible enough that people usually turn to look when I'm in a parking lot.
Took it to the dealer, they 'test drove' it. Said they couldn't hear anything. Then said that whatever I'm hearing is 'normal suspension noise'. So after leaving it a full day at the dealer, nothing has changed. Since when is ANY suspension noise normal? But I don't think its the suspension. What to do? Take it back? Take it to another dealer?
I have a 97 F150, 2wd, 4.6, auto bought for a great price agout 3 months ago.... I installed a cold air intake (air raid) and a throttle body spacer with the swirling cuts.
Since the cold air intake add, the truck occasionally makes a load "roaring" sound from the intake system. At same time rpms increase 500-1000 rpms...
it doesn't do it all the time, mostly at low throttle, and a quick jab on the accelerator usually stops it. sometimes such as when parking, holding the brake and applying a bit of throttle with load from the brake will also stop it.
Guys at local garage seem to think it has something to do with lower outside temps, (denser) and addition of cold air intake. it made the noise before the throttle body spacer.
My front right tire has been squealing when I turn. It also makes a high pitch tone when driving on the Interstate or at faster speeds. (It might be the wheel barrings - is that the same thing as a CV joint?)
Is the power steering fluid found under the green cap, under the hood? Cause I checked that and it was filled. What do I do? I don't like the squeak when I turn, nor the high pitch constant sound when driving on the interstate. Also I just posted a report about really poor gas mileage. Could these problems be connected??
I have a 2006 2.0tdi and when driving at over 40 mph I get a kind off tap tap tap . If I put a little pressure on the clutch you really can feel the tapping. If I take the car out of gear the tapping goes. If I rev the engine whilst stationary no tapping. I figured it might be a worn spline on the driveshaft? I've taken it to the local vw dealer 3 times and they can't find anything.
