Passat (B7) :: Regular Unleaded Gas Will Damage Engine?

I have a 3.6 SEL Premium. Can I put regular unleaded gas in it, or will it damage the VR6 engine?

View 7 RepliesI was wondering if one would experience increased fuel mileage &/or power with the 5.0 by using unleaded premium gas, and if so, how much? I know this is true w/ the 6.2L in the F-250, and was wondering if the same applied to the 5.0?

View 7 Replies2000 Passat 2.8L. The start of the problem happened when my gas cap lid would not open hitting the switch thus causing me to strip down the lining in the trunk and manually opening the cap by pumping the actuator body. At the time that was the only problem. I couldn't find the source of the problem so I open the cover for the fuse panel and tried to see if I had a blown fuse. I tested all the fuses and they were all fine.
A few weeks later I drive home from work one night, and since I didn't work the next day Sunday, I didn't find out until Monday that my car would not crank. My father said it might have been the battery so he tried to jump it with his car but still no luck. We even tried pushing the car to its start (my car's stick) and put it in second gear and still no luck. My uncle a mechanic said the starter relay was probably faulty so we checked that out. After taking out relay 185 which is in the 12th spot on the B5 relay panel, we thought it might have been the cause since when we removed the cap and wiggled the components a bit, the car would indeed start. This led us to believe that there could be a possible electrical problem that isn't allowing the relay to work on its own.
We then head on over to the VW dealership which is about 5 minutes from my house and they said it could be the relay, or it could be a damaged CCM and told us to check if the driver floor carpet was wet. We stripped down the carpet and indeed the carpet was wet on the inside along with the wires leading to the CCM. We took out the CCM though and appears as though it was dry and not damaged so I think we're okay with that.
We tried to find where the water came from and he said something about the drain hole under the battery and when he said that I remembered that there was a little water on the car battery after it rained which I thought should not occur. We removed the car battery and noticed that the drain hole was completely clogged and there was water seeping through other holes which is how the carpet got wet. So anyway, my uncle modified relay 185 somehow so that I could atleast get the engine to run. However, the power windows still do not work, interior lights do not work, side view mirrors do not work, sunroof does not work, trunk/gas cap lid do not work, remote button, and all other interior lights do not work despite being able to drive the vehicle. The parts and service guy at the dealer said to replace the CCM could be 600 plus the time to install/program it.
i dont have to much money right now to buy a new starter but possibly in a week or so. Will this damage anything on my car???
View 7 RepliesThis is on an 2012 SEL, 34K on it. Since the last couple of months, I have noticed that there some wub-wub-wub sound coming the wheels, well, at least from the road surface while drivng on highway speeds.
The sound is just like something is touching the tires, but can't be sure. I may have sensed some very minute shaking as well which may seem correlating with the wub-wub frequency. But as you can see, I am not quite sure how describe it. It is not a distinct sound, not something very obvious. But it is there. I asked my SO too, and both of use can notice the sound independently, so it is perfectly reproducible. The sound appears to be coming from the front, but it is hard to pin point. I also tried opening the window at 65 mph, but the wind and road noise just drowns out all other sounds.
I have thought of getting its wheels balanced as the first step. Went to Costco but apparently they balance only the wheel with tires sold by them on them. I am thinking of taking it to the dealership but want to be prepared by some basic info myself. Hence this question. Hopefully, they wont come and tell me that the wheel drive shaft or some such needs to be changed.
My girlfriend has a 2002 passat 1.8t with the tiptronic tranny... its not throwing a cel but while driving in regular drive mode it seems to have problems downshifting... not all the time but sometimes when you get on the gas and the tranny downshifts it slams* the whole car...
The only thing i can describe it as, is being in a manual car and just dropping the clutch in a lower gear with out giving it some gas to match the rpm's... brought the car to vw dealers and such but all say nothing is wrong and it is "normal"...
I recently broke a timing belt on my 1999 AEB 1.8t Passat. I'm in the process of doing all of the repairs myself while working around my college and work schedule. I have yet to pull the head off, and I'm scared of what I'll find when I do. Should I expect any piston damage? I have one completely broken valve and a bunch of bent valves.
View 12 RepliesHow much would it harm a car to put "regular" engine oil in it instead of the recommended synthetic oil...
...if I did it just once?
...if I did it regularly?
I have a quick question, when a timing chain breaks on a gli does it cause damage to the engine(like mess up the piston and valves) need to know ASAP.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2001 jetta 2.0 engine with only 130k on it. Yesterday I replaced the battery and everything was fine but then today as I started it up to go to work I started moving and the check engine light was flashing for catalyst damage. I heard that sometimes coil packs will pop if you change the battery.
View 1 RepliesMy owners manual for my 2010 Prius says speeds over 85mph can result in severe engine damage. It also states you should not pull any type of trailer, but I have seen a few Prius's with trailer hitches but I would not try it.
View 13 RepliesDue to a string of bizarre circumstances, I accidentally left the engine running (idling) for 6 hours on my low-mileage 2013 LS460.
Also, just before leaving the car, I set the climate control system to "OFF"... so no air was blowing inside the car.
As soon as I realized that I left it idling, I ran to check the temperature gauge and it looked normal.
I drove the car for a few miles afterwards and it drove fine... although it was certainly hot to touch in most places.
Luckily, today was a rather cool day (highs in the mid 60s). I'm wondering, did I cause engine damage?
About 500 miles ago I had an oil change at the dealer. In light of this event, should I get another oil change?
Yesterday I took my 2006 Toyota Corolla for an oil change at this small shop. As I drove away I heard a different slight sound coming from the engine, but I thought it could not be possible, since I had just left the mechanic and I had no previous issues with my car. I stopped at a store for about 15 minutes, then I drove a couple more miles when, suddenly, all of the engine lights turned on, the car felt weak and died. I checked the oil and it was totally dry, not even a drop to wet the napkin I used. I called the mechanic, he came over and added oil and an oil filter.
He claimed that the filter burst, is that even possible? Since I hear a strange sound the moment I left his shop, I tend to believe that he failed to put it in. What do you think? The main problem now is that my car engine is making this kind of click clack sound. I called the owner of the shop, who is the brother of the mechanic that worked on my car and I told him that I am taking my car to be diagnosed at Toyota today. If there is damage to the engine, which it sounds like, how can I get these guys to pay for it?Is it safe to drive my car like this?I am very dismayed at the whole situation and really stressed. I need this car to last me another good 5 to 6 years. I am the original owner. How to handle this case and the possible mechanical issues at hand now and down the road.
02 7.3L SD Im on a long haul and think I might have bought some bad diesel. It is shuddering a little kind of like a miss. It started right after I stopped for fuel. Is this going to damage my engine to keep plugging along? Is it just going to run kind of rough until I burn up the bad fuel? Ive got about 200mi to go so just needed to know if its safe to keep driving or am I going to be stranded.
View 13 RepliesI was told by the salesman this can use regular gas. Opinions?
View 11 RepliesDoes the 12v battery need to be changed on a regular schedule? There are many articles on "how to" but could find no info when it is needed.
View 19 Repliesjust got my R32 a year and 3 months ago and love it. I came across my first issue though a couple months ago, when i start my car on cold starts before it would of course go to the cold start mode at over 1,000 rpm's before going back down after 30 seconds and depending on the weather i'd let it warm up anywhere from 5-15 minutes.
Well a couple months ago my car wouldn't do its normal cold start routine, i'd turn it and it made its loud pitch as if it was going to do the cold start and it just immediately went down to regular idle skipping the warm up, it did this for a week before i got it checked out. I went to a shop by me and he said that it might be a thermostat sensor so i replaced it and nothing. So he then pulled my throttle body off cleaned it did the whole calibration thing or whatever its called that you have to do when unplugging them and it went back to normal!!! Well after a month (two weeks ago) its doing it again. Then he told me it might be that the throttle body has some condensation frozen and isn't allowing the throttle to open like it needs too.
I live in a suburb 20 minutes north of chicago and i don't drive the car if it snows, i keep it in my garage. I have a CAI installed on the car that i put on back in March of 09 and a flapper that i just permanently opened with an IV clamp. So i don't have any big modification on the car...yet
Today is the first day I noticed this problem !! driving regular hit traffic I notice my fans come on so I look down at my cluster and my temp gauge is a quarter pass 190 ?? Happen 3 times with in 10 minutes of each other no air condition or heat fans on ??? Get to my destination stay there for 2 hours then drive home but no temp issues ??? 74000 miles I hit today on the car completely stock ?? Thermostat , housing ??

View 2 RepliesI will be getting the DDM HID kit and wondering about the necessity for a wiring harness as it seems many are running without it. I am concerned the not having it will somehow damage the car (based on researching HID's in general) but loving the plug and play idea of running without one.
