Passat (B7) :: Instrument Lights Brightness Too High
Jan 7, 2014
I have turned the instrument panel lighting brightness all the way down, but at night, it's still too bright. Can I turn it down more using VAG-COM?

View 4 RepliesNeed to know if the little icons on your interior 'dome' lights illuminate red when your instrument cluster lights are on? (Just like the power window and dash vent icons..) Audis do, but I've never seen a W8 Passat at night to be able to tell.
Looking for a pic of your interior roof lighting? (Not the center console one near the sunroof control...that of course lights up and shows icons.) I'm looking for the ones towards the rear of the car.
Turned my lights on in my 2001 VW Passat and my instrument cluster lights are no longer working. The area showing MPG and Outside temp is functional but nothing else is. The lights for the radio, fan hazard sign etc are all fine.
View 1 RepliesI took the car in for 10,000 service. Drove it home and discovered I lost headlights, taillights and instrument lights. Checked interior driver side fuse box and all are good.
View 1 RepliesThe dash brightness dimmer pot. The roller doesn't have much tactile feedback or resistance, so when I rolled it just beyond maximum brightness, the dash lights flickered and went out. [Of course this could also be a feature I'm not aware of... ] Fortunately, dash lights came back on when reducing from max. Best to just find a comfortable setting below max brightness and leave it alone. - IMHO.
View 14 RepliesI noticed the dash lights go from bright to dim depending on the brightness outside. If i go under an overpass even at freeway speeds it will dim down and then come back up during the day. Even if I have my head lights on during the day it does that. Is there anyway to stop this?
View 9 RepliesSo I have a 2003 Chevy Impala Base 3.4L V6 and for some odd reason when I turn down the brightness for my dash the lights on the radio buttons and screen becomes brighter and when I brighten the dash the lights on the stock radio lights go out. I started to notice this after the BCM was replaced.
View 1 Replies99 F-150 V-6, 125,000 miles: I repaired the odometer connection on the cluster mother board! It now works great but now have no running (parking) lights and no backlights for the instrument cluster. I think (!) they were working before I pulled the cluster to fix the odometer--not sure. Fuzes are all good--I metered each with ohmmeter for continuity, and also have 12V to the right fuzes with headlite switch in Park and Head. I replaced the headlight switch with a new one but still the same problem. Have I messed up something in the cluster board or connections by soldering there? I don't know what role the cluster plays in feeding the running lites or the cluster backup lites. Stumped. What am I missing?
View 3 RepliesI recently purchased my first car/jetta. When i switch the knob to turn on the instrument lights on my 2000 jetta the headlights don't come on. But when i turn the knob off the auto headlights turn on. Any insight on this? when i first got the car everything was working fine. It only started to happen after I replaced the radiator.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2007 Passat with >120k miles on it. For the last month or so, occasionally when I start the car up, the EPC (I think it stands for Electronic Power Control) light and the Check Engine (the engine sign) light comes on. When I hit the gas, it barely goes past 20 and seems to be revving really high (almost redlining) before it finally accelerates. Needless to say, this is not a good thing; especially when it happens on the freeway.
I called around to a few mechanics but they all want to see the car and run the computer codes on it before they even tell me what's wrong with it; which I am loathe to do just yet because I don't want them to charge me an extra $100 for a diagnostic for a repair I may not even get done with that mechanic. Meanwhile I'm driving around feeling like I should put my feet on the ground like Fred Flintstone to gain speed.
In the research I've done online, I've seen that it may be an issue with the throttle wire or some other wiring issue.

View 7 RepliesMy instrument cluster is virtually nonreadable now when the outside temperature gets about 80 degrees. I assume the only way to correct this is to replace the whole cluster.
View 24 RepliesI have an '07 LS460L and I noticed that at night, I can't see the temp lights, radio lights, or the overhead lights, but I can see the instrument lights and the video screen and the lights around the stick shift. I've tried just about everything I can. I've gotta think it's a control I'm just not seeing.
View 14 RepliesThis has bothered me a while. I turn the instrument lights to max brightness, but they are very dim. I can see them, but they are all very dim.
View 6 RepliesSo my 96 Dodge Dakota's instrument lights went out a couple days ago, I thought it was just a fuse, so naturally I check all the fuses. Come to find out they're all fine, I replaced a few to see if maybe it was just an old fuse. Still nothing. Then last night I noticed that the instrument lights came on between off and on for the lights. So I assume its a wiring problem. Then as I drove down the road I hit a bump and all the lights went off then kicked back on. Needless to say I can't drive around with lights that won't stay on. Where should I check for the cause of this problem?
View 2 RepliesMy buddy Mark and I followed the directions to VAG my moms DRL's so they dont come on anymore, but now the lights illuminating her garage door opener and the lights around her shifter do not light up, did we do something wrong or forget something?
View 2 RepliesGot in my 06 F350 dually 2 weeks ago and after start up had no instrument indications. Truck ran great, flat line on panel. Tow haul light out also. Drove it for appx 5 miles, shazam all start working and then they cycled on and off for a while. After 10 miles, came on solid. Happened again at a later date.
Here's what I discovered. I noticed high voltage on my Scangage II. As in 16.2VDC. Monitored it coming back from a hunt. 14.9-15.5VDC. Would blank out only after hitting 16.2VDC. I'm suspecting there might be a cutout to protect the instrument cluster from damage.
Installed a new alternator on Friday the 13th. Drove home this weekend, 4 hours and no problems. Hopefully didn't boil off the batteries. Now 13.5-13.9VDC ... Just something to be aware of!!
Whenever I step on the brakes the lights on the instrument panel go out. When I take my foot off the brake they come back on. When I use the right blinker they blink. They do not blink when I use the left. What is this?
View 4 RepliesOn my 2002 Santa Fe I just noticed that the instrument lights on the dashboard are out. Also the ones that show the shift position do not work when you put the parking lights or headlights on except R lights up. I have checked about 10 different fuses, but they are all good. All exterior lights and turn signals work.
View 2 Replies'93 2wd, standard instrument panel. Headlights and brake lights work fine. No instrument lights or taillights. The problem, at least with the dash lights, seems to be intermittent. My son has told me the dash lights are out, but they worked when I drove it later. I rarely drive the van. Is this a problem with the headlight switch? I pulled all the fuses, and checked the bulbs in the taillights, and everything looked ok.
