View 17 RepliesI just got the trunk latch problem that is frequently mentioned. Reading other messages here, it seems likely to be due to the spring of the post.
I eagerly went out to remove the trunk lid liner to see if I could fix the problem, but I couldn't for the life of me find the fuzzy screws that other people indicate have to be removed
Looking for a picture of what these seemingly invisible screws look like, or a diagram indicating where they are?
I have a 2001 Passat GLX (not the 2001.5 has the clips holding the liner in)
I own a 2006 2.0T FSI Passat. "auto". A few weeks ago i was switching out my interior dome lights for cosmetics. I had 5 of 6 installed and while putting in the last bulb, all my dome lights went out along with the visor lights and trunk lights. I'm pretty good when it come to electronics but just can't seem to find the problem.
Fuses are ok
Lights are ok
But somewheres between the fuse box and the lights there is something wrong.
Remove or replace the tail lights on a B6 wagon? I'm changing mine out tomorrow with the new smoked tail lights and was wondering if there's anything I should know ahead of time. Or even a step by step order to removing them.
View 4 RepliesMy 2002 B5.5 Variant received some "tough love" in a parking lot recently, with the result that one of the front marker lights (in the fender ahead of the front wheel, on the side) was broken. I see that I can push on the light housing and it'll move in a bit, but how can I remove the cover (the colored plastic bit) entirely to replace it with a new, not-busted one?
View 1 RepliesI've having difficulty removing the taillights from the trunk. I'm sure it is simple but there must be a trick to do this properly. I've removed the nuts but I can't bulge the "lockwashers" per the instructions. The threaded stud is a special design and has some type of spring mechanism. I tried removing one of these a few years ago and I broke the stud. How is this done? Below are the Bentley instructions which are not useful.

View 17 RepliesWant to replace my park light bulbs (the wedge bulbs housed in the high beam lens) with leds but unsure how to get these things out? They have a black plastic tab on the back of the bulb fitting which I assume is to aid removal but do you need to twist then pull or just pull straight out? They look rather flimsy so don't want risk breakage ...

Today, without explanation the shift indicator on the dash on my 98 Passat Wagon highlights all gears. When you shift to any gear. . . . the display does not change. Further, shifting is rough from 'park.'
I noticed this problem after looking at all the fuses to see why the radio was not powering up. I have checked fuses. . . . and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in.
99 F-150 V-6, 125,000 miles: I repaired the odometer connection on the cluster mother board! It now works great but now have no running (parking) lights and no backlights for the instrument cluster. I think (!) they were working before I pulled the cluster to fix the odometer--not sure. Fuzes are all good--I metered each with ohmmeter for continuity, and also have 12V to the right fuzes with headlite switch in Park and Head. I replaced the headlight switch with a new one but still the same problem. Have I messed up something in the cluster board or connections by soldering there? I don't know what role the cluster plays in feeding the running lites or the cluster backup lites. Stumped. What am I missing?

I'm pretty sure that he is working on a GTI. Is it the same as a R32 because mine doesn't really look the same. my interior trim doesn't seem to peal that easy or at all. Do I need to cut the trim with a blade or remove any plastic trim pieces to access the lights?
Pick up T-reg today. Go home and armed the car, but the foot well lights and the trunk lights do not turn off. The battery will be dried. How can I turn off those light?

This afternoon I finally had a chance to wire in two 10" strips of LED lights into the back of my SE. Here's how it turned out (and yes, I need to clean my trunk):
Not bad at all! I shot a bunch of video and will try and find time tomorrow to edit it together for a DIY.
Following a storm last week, my car had a completely discharged convenience battery. The carpet in the driver's (RHS) footwell was soaked, and I vacuumed out about a pint of water. The right front sunroof drain was blocked, so I massaged the duckbill valve and got this working again. The carpet is now completely dried out.
I fully recharged the battery using a mains charger, but two days later it was flat again. I ran a VCDS scan, found and reset lots of fault codes for low battery. I then discovered that the trunk lights were not turning off when the trunk lid closed, hence the battery discharge. The measuring block for trunk lights shows 0% however. The power trunk lid operates correctly from all switches and the remote.
All other vehicle functions seem to be working OK. I have removed the fuse for the trunk lights temporarily, but obviously would like to get them working properly again.
