Is there a DIY on how to change the headlamp bulbs, DRL and turn bulbs? Do i need to remove the bumper cover and/or headlamp from the car or can i change the bulbs with the headlamp in place?
View 3 RepliesI know the instructions are somewhere, but I am having trouble figuring out how to change the headlamp bulbs (high & low beams) on the easy side-driver side. Do I need to loosen the headlamp assembly or can I just go into the headlamp assembly without removing it?
View 3 RepliesMy front dipped headlamps both burnt out within days of each other and I replaced them with H7 Sylvanias. Pretty easy to get out, but they are too dim. I believe I do not have them installed properly.
Looking for PDF for this replacement procedure and/or give a description of how this is done???? It is kind of a bugger to get inside that housing. I am a mechanical novice with cars, but a competent M1/M14 gunsmith. I really can't justify paying VW $50 to install a few bulbs. I like fixing things for myself.
Any tricks that will make this job easier? They seem buried and when I reach I am only guessing as to what I am pulling out. For example, I pulled out a round cover, but what was it covering up? Must the bulb be twisted and then pulled or just pulled?

View 13 RepliesSo on the way home tonight my passenger side bulb went out. No big deal, I pull into the auto store and pick up a set of new bulbs. The problem is now that the light that went out is not working at all. I replaced it and reset the bulb to make sure it is tightly connected and nothing. Next I try the other working bulb in the passenger socket and still nothing. All other lights work. City bulb, high beam and turn signal works in the housing.

View 7 RepliesAbout two years ago I sold my 1994 Aero (transmission was going, and other stuff) and bought a 1997 that was in much better shape. But one flaw it has is that it was used somewhere with high corrosion, so a lot of stuff is stuck or rusty. I haven't changed the rear bulbs since I got it, but this week, 2 out of three bulbs went. Actually, I only noticed the 2nd one because the blinker went too, and started blinking fast. The 3rd Brake light on top might have been out a while already.
Anyway, to my frustration, I cannot open the 3rd Brake Light to change the bulbs. Even after I removed the 2 screws, the lens won't budge. I tried gentle prying, but I can hear the plastic starting to crack. I figure there are 2 possibilities.
a) It somehow got fused to the gasket over time. or
b) It was crazy-glued shut by some insane maniac (a long-shot?). In which case I can try Acetone.
For starters, once the screws are removed, does just the red lens come out, or does the black frame around it come out with it? I tried prying on both, but one of them is surely wrong. Worst case scenario is that I break it, and have to glue it back on or get another one from a junk yard. But that is not good... Meanwhile I am living ok with just 2 brake lights.
So I noticed the other night that one of my LED's on my headlamp flickered while they were on, with the key in ignition. As of today, the driver's side LED light went out. Where to to tap into to make an attempt to figure this out. Wires and connector seem to be all in tact.
View 5 RepliesMy driver side door has not been working for about a month now. It started gradually opening after a million tried but now it just wont open. Tonight one of my lamps stopped working when I was trying to install HID's. I suspect the fuse is burned out but cant get to it cause the door wont open. How can I get my door open. Need headlights as I get out of work late night and dont want to get pulled over for a headlamp being out.
View 8 RepliesI tried to convert the bulbs in my dashboard with LED bulbs..and it worked for about a month and stop working..then about a week after not having any dash lights. They came back on...but like a strobe, but not all the time..... And then it'll be fine? I'm also looking Into doing a taillight conversion to LEDs.

View 7 RepliesIs this any easier in my 2004 VW Passat than it was in my 2001 VW Jetta? In the Jetta, I had to disconnect the battery and dislocate my elbow and wrist in order to get my hand in the awkwardly placed compartment. Also, is it worth stepping up the original OEM to high intensity bulbs?
View 11 RepliesI just replaced the interior bulbs with LED's (3 Chip SMD's). The bulbs in the glove compartment and overhead rear lights remain on but the ones under the dash (driver and passenger courtesy lights) turn off within a few seconds. What could be going on.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2006 VW Passat which has been eating low beam bulbs. I've probably replaced this one 4 times in the last 12 months. The last time I replaced was 2 days ago with a Sylvania bulb. Yesterday on my way to work it burnt out. Then on my way home last night I was pulled over by a cop for it. That really annoyed me.
Having issue with Passat burning through headlight bulbs? Do I need to have the wiring assembly checked or possibly replace the entire headlight assembly? I'm getting really tired of changing these bulbs so often.
I ordered a set (to go into the headlight housings, the little corner one). They don't work and I have the headlight out on my dash. I assume it needs to be VAG Com'd? If so, what are the settings?
