Passat (B7) :: Driver Side Headlight Replacement?
Jun 22, 2012
Encountered a problem with the headlights. I had to replace my driver side headlight. It worked great for a few weeks until the low beam just died out. It seemed as if the connector that holds the bulb got fried. I took it to the dealership and they replaced it for free. I believe they changed the socket inside the headlight piece because it was burnt. It worked great for two weeks until it just started acting up again. If I try to nudge the socket that holds the bulb i can get it back on, but once I let go it just dies out again. What can cause this? I even switched the bulbs and bulb holders between the two headlights. It worked briefly but once I hit a large bump it moved around and just died again. Now I cant even get it to click back in place. It only lights up if I shake the socket around but doesn't stay lit without support.

I am in need of replacing the passenger side Front Headlight assembly. I was wondering, how to assemble it outside of a repair shop. I was also looking to possibly get the part number so I can make sure I am purchasing the correct product for my 2012 VW Passat SE.

I dropped off my 2012 Passat to the dealer this morning because the driver's DRL was out and the passenger headlight was out. Normally I'd change bulbs myself and be on my way but since this is new and under warranty, I let them do the work.
Anyway, fixed the DRL (bad bulb). But the passenger headlight assembly needs replacing. Seems I have fallen victim to a melted housing causing a failure. I've read about the situation somewhere here on the forums and suspected it might be the case. So VW is 2-3 days out on getting a new part and I'm in a loaner for the time being.
I'm guessing this happens a lot with this part. I wonder if VW will issue a recall in the future.

A few weeks back I started noticing the driver's side headlight would go out when I started up the car after work. If I drove it around & restarted about 10 mins later, the headlight would come back on, got sick of that after a week so I replaced the bulb and the same thing happens. It happens only when I leave work, any other time it's fine, even went on vacation for a week w/out any probs. The only thing I can think of is the heat from sitting out on the parking lot all day does something, what might be going on?

I just got a set of OEM headlights put in my car. The first time i drove it at night, i noticed that the driver's side headlight dropped short of the coverage that the passenger side headlight did (distance wise). How can i adjust this?

So on my 06 passat, the headlight on the driver's side is crooked like severally to the point I have to use my brights at night. Do these cars come with motion headlights? How would I go about fixing this or do I need a new headlamp???

I did the search for this and there seems to be a link that details how to remove the driver's side headlight bulb housing which is different than the passenger side. I got that side replaced with no problem but the driver's side seems to be a pain to remove.

I had a low beam bulb go out a month ago on the driver side. I bought some silvania silverstars to install on both sides. The drivers side went fine but as I installed the passenger side the inside reflector housing came loose, apparently popping off some spring clips inside the headlight housing. The passenger side headlight assembly now pointed towards the ground 10 feet in front of the car... I tried to adjust the screws to bring the light pattern back up. No joy.
Anyway I messed and messed trying to get the reflector housing to fit back on the spring clips. I ended up having to pull the bumper apart and the whole front side of the car to totally remove the headlight assembly. Once I got it out I found these little ball/socket spring clips and was able to put the assembly back together.
Now my issue is I have lost track of the adjustment screws and where the headlights should point. Any formula such as, "park your car 10ft from the garage door on the flat level. The low beam should be 30 inches off the ground on the bottom and the 40 inches at the top. The beam should be 50 inches from the center line of the car" Something like that so that I can get my headlights back to factory settings.

When I was in Vancouver last week some punk knocked my driver side side mirror off to the ground I need a replacement (I have a '99 B5 Passat) and I have a few question:
(1) The powered mirror mechanism is still working flawlessly. Can I just replace the cover/housing and the mirror? Or do I need to replace the whole side mirror unit? How much would that be for each of these options?
(2) If I have to replace the whole unit, I'm thinking about replacing both side mirrors with the B5 Audi S4 aluminum side mirror units. Will they fit on a B5 Passat? Is there any pics online that I can look at the the result? And, how much will they be?

I had the heater core flushed, inspection done, a tie rod end replaced, and both low beams replaced to pass inspection in January. The driver's side low beam stopped working after a week.
When I would hit a bump in the road, it would start working for a while till I hit another bump and then it would go off. Now the driver's side low beam never works.
I could have gone back to the mechanic, but it's an 80 mile round trip(they used to be a lot cheaper than the dealership). Now that the weather is starting to get better, do you think it's a simple problem that I can fix myself? I don't want to waste 80 miles worth of gas just to have them charge me for something that they already charged me to fix. The next time I'm due an oil change I may go there and demand that they fix the light too, but I'm not going to waste 80 miles of gas just for the light.

My Drivers side headlight points slightly higher than my passenger side headlight. Is this normal or do I need to adjust, and if so how do I adjust?

My 2006 Prius (Model NHW20) has a strange headlight problem. On the passenger side, the high beam light is out but the regular headlight works.
On the driver side, the high beam is working but the regular headlight is out.
I don't think it's the fuses but I'm not sure. No amount of interchanging the following fuses changes anything about the issue:
1. 10A H-LP HI RH
2. 10A H-LP HI LH
3. 15A H-LP LO RH
4. 15A H-LP LO LH

I just replaced (or almost replaced) the bulb on the passenger side of my 2008 prius. It is a HID bulb. I got the old one out, the new one in and connected and verified it is working. Now trying to get the cover back on that provides the weather proofing and unless im wrong... the braided wire that connects to the back of the bulb is in the way. It looks like it has to go thru the opening that the cover is supposed to seal... Imagine a rope hanging over the edge of a bucket you are trying to put a cover on... Am i wrong here? did I miss something?
