Passat (B6) :: Wipers Move When Key Removed From Ignition?
Dec 14, 2007
Sometimes when I take the key out of the ignition, the wipers move up slightly. I notice the passenger's blade most as it parks a bit higher than the driver's blade, so when they move up the right one is more obvious. They don't move a full cycle, just up about an inch and stop.

2000 PASSAT 1.8t. As u pull out the key out of the ignition key chamber, u should here a click sound. That I believe signals the car that the key has been pulled out of the ignition key chamber. Well I don't hear the click sound anymore when the key is pulled out of the ignition key chamber and as a result, the car thinks the key is still is the ignition chamber, alarm does not work, radio stays on after key is out, I have to manually lock and unlock car. I think the key chamber has a pin that did not set right when I pulled the key out. I think some thing is stuck . Tired spraying WD40 into the key chamber with no results.

Used to have the wipers move up or down about 1" at stop lights to reverse the blade and extend their life. Now, that doesn't seem to happen. I went into the convenience settings some time ago, but don't believe I changed anything relating to this.

Turn wipers on and motor growls but wipers do not move, checked 30 amp fuse and it is good, all other functions of the multifunction switch are good.

Every couple of days I'll notice the wipers sort of "twitch" up the windshield about " when I turn the car off. They don't go back down until the car is started and rolling forward. I'm not sure if there's a particular speed that triggers this, but it would have to be less than 5 mph.
The wipers seem to work fine. My local service department suggested that the wipers might be in "service" (a.k.a. "winter") mode. Based on what the owner's manual says about winter mode I'd have to disagree. The wipers move just the smallest amount.

I have a 2005 Toyota Camry LE. After changing the battery I now get an 12 beep sequence a few seconds after removing the key. The car is a base model and I do not have keyless ignition. It has two tones, and the sequence is high-low-high-low high-low-high-low high-low-high-low. I thought this was something reset after the battery change, but I can't find anything about it in the owners manual. I want to turn this off.

I have a 1994 4 cyl Toyota Camry LE. For the last couple of years, when I parked the car after driving it and removed the key from the ignition, the air conditioning would continue to operate normally and blow cold air through the vents, and all of the other electrics would all operate for about 5 seconds, then shut down normally. Again, this was after driving the car, engine off, with the key removed and the ignition switch in the proper "off" position. I didn't think much of it at the time.
Recently, the problem has advanced to something worse. Now, when I turn off and remove the key, all electrical components remain on indefinitely (ie radio, air conditioning, wipers work, etc... )
I can physically power down each of the individual components using it's respective switch, but there is still accessory power on the vehicle. Basically, with the key removed, the vehicle thinks it is in accessory mode. All the dash lights are illuminated, like right before you start the vehicle. The only way to completely remove all electrical from the vehicle is to physically disconnect the battery.

I guess not ALL of the time, but pretty often when I turn off my truck and remove the key from the ignition, I get the "key is in the ignition" chime, and I'm not allowed to lock my truck.

This started today, when I turn off the ignition and remove the key the radio stays on and the steering column does not lock. The guy at the dealership suggested spraying wd 40 into the ignition. No go.

Noticed yesterday when I turn my car off, the wipers move about an inch. It is very odd. Is there something I am missing?

2013 Accord Sport, 3k miles ... It's 10 degrees in WI today. This is 1st time I had this problem. I press the washer lever towards and the washer fluid comes out, but the wipers don't move. They are not stuck on the windshield because of ice or anything either. What can I check? The next question is the turn signal. What does the lever do when you push the lever towards the dash? It clicks, but I don't notice that it does anything?

My wipers are set in "maintenance mode" or something needs to be adjusted. Every time I start my car and start to move, the wipers move slightly and make a jolt sound. At first I wasn't sure what it was, thought maybe it was the brakes or something but a few weeks ago I realized it was the wipers moving. It only happens after I start the car and start moving. After that initial take-off, they don't move anymore until I re-start the engine.
Is this normal or do I need to adjust something? Just know that the wipers do have a maintenance mode.

The windshield wipers on my '98 Volvo S90 seem kaput. I can hear the motor but the arms don't move. I am assuming it's the wiper transmission and have been quoted astronomical amounts for repair.

We were borrowing my brother-in-law's 2006 Jetta and the day after a snow storm, the windshield wipers stopped working. They came up half way and then stopped and don't move further. You can hear a whirring noise, like something is trying to go, but no movement. We've been quoted $500-600 to replace the windshield wipers and motor, but we don't think they need to be replaced, just repaired.

I notice that wipers stop in position they were caught when I turn engine off (in the middle across windshield). Is it possible to set them to go down after ignition is off as other (not so luxury cars) do?

Have a 1979 BMW 528i with lots of miles---have owned it since 1982. Lately the wipers and turns have worked with key out of ignition. Replaced the ignition switch and wires but problem persist if the engine is cold. If engine is warmed up, like after a drive, the wipers and turns will not work with ignition off. Let it cool down and Bingo---they work. Where do I start looking for the source of the problem?

I have a 2002 Saab 9-3. I tried starting it this morning but the key won't move from the locked position at all! What should I do? The steering wheel doesn't seem to be locked and I had the battery changed not to long ago.

Does the oil cooler have to be removed to change out the oil pressure switch? If not, any pix or how-to posted around? Done a Google but apart for Jetta 2.0L nothing seems to come up
Believe it's located on top of the oil filter bracket according to ETKA, but that doesn't show what components are around or on top of it
Am fitting a 42DD re-location unit so I can have the switch and a GlowShift oil pressure sender onto it. Car was on a lift yesterday but couldn't see a way to get at it

So I have a 99 F250SD, earlier this year my wipers started going on by themselves, switch didn't seem to effect them, wouldn't turn off with the switch but would with the ignition off. Then they stopped working all together along with the washer. Checked fuses and relays, put a new switch in and still no dice. When I move the switch the wiper/washer relays do not click at all.
I've tried tracing the wires but haven't been able to find any issues there. The gem is as clean and new looking as one made yesterday. Is there a pinout test I can run on the plug into the motor? or which color wires coming out of the fuse box to check? I'd really like to get this fixed so I can drive my truck this winter.
