Passat (B6) :: When Car Is Hot And Turned Off It Will Not Start Again
May 7, 2011
I have a passat b6 2.0 FSI 2006. It has 73000km. The car starts normal when it is cold, but when I drive the car for 30 min or more, and then turn off the car it will not start again. But when I stop the car more than 15 min the starter works one more time. I tried to have a look with VAG but there was no error codes.

Just got back from the supermarket. Unloaded groceries and my Passat wouldn't start when I went to park it. Turned the key and it just makes a clicking noise - clock and trip odometer reset themselves also. If I turn the key the car just makes a clicking noise and the lights on the dash all flash on and off.
I am going to see if it starts after being jumped in a few minutes.
Other potentially useful info - I was testing a radar detector for work the other day and it has a battery voltage meter. It was reading in the 11.0 - 11.6 volt range. Is this too low - just wondering if the alternator was not supplying a sufficient charge. Not sure how accurate these are. The battery was changed around a year ago so I'm sure it's not the battery. I am assuming starter or alternator.

What is wrong with my Passat: once a week my car fails to start. When clutch is pressed and ignition key is turned I can hear relay under dash is clicking and nothing happening. It does not sound to me as starter (I hope). After a few seconds and few attempts car starts normally. I checked which relay is clicking and it was Relay # 53 (starting interlock relay), which linked to a clutch switch. Replaced this relay and after a week problem repeated.

I have a 2002 Passat GLS and when I tried to start my car this morning, it would not start. When I turn on the ignition, the car gives off a loud clicking sound. The interior and exterior light works, the panel light works, and the radio works as well. What might be the problem?

I have 1994 ranger 2.3 2wd will not start when key is turned to start position - when clutch is depressed there is a click from fender mounted solenoid but it never cranks motor or starter--I need wiring diagram to trace origin of wire on starter solenoid because it does not have 12volts on it--when I jumper 12v on it and have it in neutral it starts up and runs but no voltage and no start with key....

My car was sitting outside and wasnt started for about 4 months. It has a brand new battery so when I went to start it, it started right up first crank, ran smooth for 10 seconds then you hear the sound of a ton of water being bubbled and pushed out the exhaust, then the car studders and turned off. There was a big puddle of water near the exhaust. I tried starting the car the day after a few times and all it does is crank but will not start, battery is 100% and its cranks with no problem but will not start at all, it's like dead, the check engine light went on after trying to crank it today too. I'm lost. I figured there was too much water pressure in the exhaust but nope won't start now, the battery is good, electronics are good, has fresh gas, not sure about the lines but like I said it started right up yesterday.

Yesterday on my way home my engine turned off. I had just turned onto a side street so i went to give it some gas. Nothing. I tried again and still nothing. I looked down to make sure i was actually pressing the gas and not the brake and and thats when i noticed that the speedo and rpm gauges both were at 0. They were still lit up and the radio was still on and the windows still worked. So i pulled over and a few minutes later i tried to start it back up and it started up fine. I have been driving it all day and i have not had any problems.

My 1999 VW Passat is having some starting problems. I drove it home, and turned it off myself, and then it never started again. I replaced the starter, and it works, because i can hear it. The Engine just wont turn over.
So i looked inside the car, and when i turn the key to the battery spot, PRNDetc. doesn't show up on the dash. I also noticed that i can push it backwards in drive.
I have had the transmission replaced recently, and i took it to a couple places and they tried to tell me that my engine was seized. I tend not to think so, because it there was something wrong with the transmission, the engine wouldn't turn over since it is connected to the transmission.
It is a tiptronic transmission. By any chance do you think it could be the transmission circuit board under the shifter? or a fuse, or some kind of linkage in the transmission that is messed up? Possibly the flywheel?

I have a 2008 Passat 2.0t 4-door. It has 35,000 miles with 12,000 of it coming in the last ten months. I always use 91 premium gas. The car has been running great but last night as I turned a corner the engine stopped.
All the lights work and after waiting a minute the engine turned over but after 20 seconds it stopped. The car was towed to my place and it stayed outside in temperature in the low 20's (F). With the temperature outside around 30 degrees the car turned on and stayed on for over a minute before I had to go to work.
Could the battery be the problem? I turned the car on and drove it for five minutes and it worked normally. The temperature outside is 54 degrees Fahrenheit.

My CEL turned on about 2 weeks ago. I took it to autozone and they ran it, and it came up as that my car is running too lean. Would this have to do with my MAF sensor? Also, It seems that my car is also burning oil. I have a 06 passat 2.0T.

So my car was fine when I drove to the store, with no AC on. After that, I wanted to drive to a hotel, which is 1/2 of a mile away. Before I drove there and after I started my car, I blasted my AC (turning up to #3). On my way there the car was fine. When I drove into the parking lot and braked, the car suddenly turned off by itself showing the battery light. After the car turned off by itself, the fan (not AC..
AC doesn't run when engine is turned off) was still running. I freaked out, immediately turned AC/Fan off and restarted it. It was successful after the first try. So my question is...what caused the car to turn off by itself? Is it because of my AC? I know FOR SURE...it's not because of
1. timing belt because i recently changed it.
2. battery but i installed a brand new last summer.

I have Xenon HID, adaptive headlights, what ever you want to call them. Normally, I run my headlights in Auto, which means the fogs are off. This morning I needed the fogs so when I turned them on, the right headlight went out, throwing up the fault light.
I ordered a pair of bulbs this morning but on my way home, the lights were functional again in Auto. As a test, I turned on the fogs again and sure enough, the right low beam went out and the fault light lit up.
Is this an early indicator of a bulb going or is related to something else?

So today my brother was changing oil and he turned on the car after the pan and filter were drained and the car was on for good 15-20 seconds before it was turned off. It was driven a few miles after I put in the oil.The car is running but the engine seems a little louder than before. Just wanted to know how significant of damage has been caused and what to expect in the next few days, months, years!!?? If it ever gets to see them.

So the other day my car had a problem starting, but on the second try it turned over.
Well after work tonight I went out to my car and tried to leave.... The car started for a split second and then died. It would sputter then shut off. It seemed like the car was not getting any fuel...
There were 3 instances when the car started tonight like it was going to run, but when gas was given it sputtered out again. Pulled the fuel line into the engine and when trying to start and push on the gas, no fuel spilled out. Pulled the fuel pump relay and switched it out, still same problem Is this the fuel pump?

Engine light came on, turned off my car and now my car won't start again. When I put the key in the ignition and turned it over, its nothing-no lights, no clicking. Thought the problem might be a dead battery. Tried to jump start. No luck. Took the key out, heard a strange sound coming from around the engine, somewhere between and squeal and a violin.

So a week ago the Check Engine light comes on. I take it in and just got a call that the Secondary Cooling Pump has failed. Apparently it's a pump that cools down the turbo and other things after the car is shut off. I only have 44,000 miles on the TDI too.

The SAI pump (part number 021 959 253 B) on my 97 Passat continues to run intermittently after the car is turned off, eventually draining the battery. How do I fix?

The fan inside my air filter box, or turbo charger intercooler (not sure of correct technical term) is running on and off for several hours after engine has been shut off. I believe this is running my battery down. Is this intercooler/fan suppose to run after the engine is shut off?
