Passat (B6) :: Wheels Rubbing On Rear Arches?
Oct 3, 2009
I have a set of 19s on my car et 42 wit 235/35/19 tyres and dropped on coilovers. I read that having et 35 would rub so i got et 42 thinking it would clear the arch but the the tyres rub on the arch liner when people are sitting in the back.

I recently picked up some Samarkands for my 3.6 4motion Passat which originally had the 17s on it. Since swapping, I first had a little wobbling issue which was mostly resolved with a balancing of the wheels. Now the only thing remaining is this sound of rubbing going on up front. It's pretty prominent at lower parking lot speeds since my ears can catch the sounds of the rotation. Being that they're factory wheels, from another Passat originally, I assumed they would bolt right up with no issue. They're ET44 18x8.5. Am I missing something here? Do I need spacers or something. If its anything involving an alignment, that would be awesome because I'm gonna need one after I lower the car when I get back from my trip.

Last week, I noticed that my rear wheels were splayed out. That is, the bottoms of the wheels were further from the center of the car than the tops of the wheels. I drove to the dealership (abut 2 miles from where I was when I noticed the issue) and discovered that the tires had worn through the steel cords on the inside edges.
They did an alignment and put on two new tires and I was on my way (3 1/2 hours later). They could not tell me what had gone so terribly wrong to cause this, but they also told me that they could not get the passenger side rear wheel aligned because of the cam bolt. Apparently it is quite worn. They said it was a 4-5 hour job replacing this bolt. Does this seem reasonable?
Since this episode, I have noticed that my car is really jumpy when I am turning left. Mostly on long turns like ramps and curves in the road. By "jumpy" I mean that the car seems to jerk around side to side during the turn. I worry about losing control.
I can't tell if the problem is caused by the front or rear wheels, but I don't feel anything strange in the steering wheel. In my mind, I feel that it is the rear wheels, but that may just be because of the recent work I had done. What might be causing this?

At 20mph my azera sounds like it has bad bearings but they have all been replaced and I still hear the sound. Almost sounds like bad bearing or something in the wheel.

When I drive my prius and make sharp turns or any sort of UTURN, the wheels lock up, automatically brake and there is a grinding noise as if the wheels are rubbing and there is a beeping noise. I took my prius back to the dealer for warranty repairs and the problem persists. is this a normal thing?

This is my dads f250 build date of 9/03. I know these wheels are not the factory xl wheels. I also think they changed something with the wheel back spacing somewhere around this time. He is running 285/70/17 bfgs and is rubbing the leaf springs pretty good. He ran this same size on his previous 02 model with no rubbing. Can he get away with 1/4 spacers? What years these wheels are from? And the backspacing differences, if any. His 02 had the chrome large bullet hole style wheels.

My 79 year old father put fuel additive in his 2010 Chevy Impala. Don't ask me how much, or for how long... The Check Engine light came on. I never got a clear answer from him on what his mechanic said about it. Five to Ten fill ups later the Check Engine light went out on its own. Engine seems fine. Could this have caused damage to the engine or emissions controls? Would a computer diagnostic from a mechanic pinpoint any problems? Would you recommend a computer diagnostic be performed?

What this noise is, still getting used to having axles and such in the rear as well. Its a rubbing / winding sound coming from the rear, and seems to only make noise when the clutch is engaged / in gear and accelerating. It stops (probably from the # of rotations making it hard to hear) around 15-20 mph. It starts slow and of course increases with speed. Its not a nasty dead-wheel-bearing sound, just a rub. Car has H&R coils, stock wheels no spacers, haldex blue, stock exhaust w/ resonator delete and flapper mod. (Trying to think of any mods in that area that could change the cars dynamic) ...

I recently got a set of staggered IS 350 wheels, and while I realize it's not ideal , my father wants to know if they will fit his 2012 ES350 ? The front tires I'm having put on are 225 / 45 / 18, but the tears are still good and are 255 / 40 / 18. Will the 255 fit in the back without rubbing issues.
So, I just went ahead and put the wheel on. The stats are 18x8.5, +45 offset, and 255/40/18.
Initially the tire rubbed while driving, the wheel was able to rotate, but not without the rotating rub noise against the strut. So then I put on a 5mm spacer I had and it was perfect.

My 2009 Sonata has developed a 'rubbing' sound that seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. The brakes are new, the rotors are fine, there are no marks on the tire or wheel. This sound only shows up when I apply the brakes and generally at slowing speeds. If I press the brake pedal down hard the sound doesn't emit. We have checked suspension, brakes, rotors, tire and wheel.

Is there a simple, inexpensive, right now fix to stop the rubbing on the rear tires? I'm running 265/30/22 tires and get tire scraping on dips and some turns with a half tank of gas and two small passengers.

I have recently had the rear brakes on 2001 Aurora replaced. When car is driven about 20 minutes, there is a rubbing sound from the rear when the brakes are applied. I have taken the car back to the shop and they said for some reason the new pads were worn and put new pads on thinking it was bad pads. The noise continues. Is there anything special that must be done on this car when the rear brakes are serviced? Are there special type of brake pads that must be used for rear disc brakes? I am just going to sell the car if I can't figure out how to fix this problem soon.

First the specs: 2008 w/38K, not sure which package but nothing fancy. This morning got in the car and started off and hear a metallic rubbing noise coming from the left rear of the car. Sounded like it came from around the wheel area. Temp was coolish around 36 degrees. The noise only happened for the first few minutes and only when going real slow, like 5 or 10 mph, and only when I was turning right.
Sound was like the the sound you get when a brake pad is worn way down and scrubbing on a rotor or drum. Also, the sound would speed up as I sped up until a certain speed then would go away. I actually stopped and restarted to be sure I could make it happen again. Once the car warmed up I couldn't reproduce the noise. Drove the car later in the afternoon with temps in the high 40s and no noise. Also, I never use the E brake so can't imagine that would have any impact

The rear left side is rubbing over bumps with 2 adults in the back...
Specs are as follows :
Rays VR G25
19x8.5 ET45
19x9.5 ET42
Goodyear AS2 Front - 225/35/19, Rear - 265/30/19
Lowered on HKS Max IV GT
Really want to keep the lowered look and in fact I want to lower the rear 5mm more. Thinking of changing to 255 in place of the 265 for the rear.

Fixed my AWD. Needed a new Haldex pump. Did a fluid change and new Haldex filter. All using factory stuff.
AWD works great now. The problem though is when im making tight slow speed turns. I.E. backing out of a parking stall. I get a noise from the rear diff like something rubbing, or a tire skidding.
Is this normal? I bought my car from the dealership without my AWD working and just got it fixed, so I really didn't know what an AWD R32 was like.

I have had my Santa Fe since middle of January and have some issues with rubbing noises and popping noises from the rear of the vehicle since then. The rubbing noise has been resolved, but the popping noise appears to be more of a challenge. I have had the vehicle looked at 4 times.
The way the mechanic at the dealership explained it to me is that between the outer body panel and the inner trim panel there is a piece of sheet metal that is flexing and popping. This is most noticeable at low rates of speed and more when turning left or right.
The past two times the dealer has reposition the pieces and the noise has went way for a few days, but always returns. So today I asked if maybe there was a wield missing or what we do if the problem continues after the latest fix.
One suggestion was to fill the gap between the sheet metal and the body panel. They mentioned foam or cardboard.

The rear hatch on our ex, is starting to dig into the fiberglass of the barn doors. Paint is already gone, just white fiberglass. This wasn't an issue was first, however we have been opening and closing it quite a bit more than we used to. How to resolve this issue?
