View 12 RepliesWhat does the B stand for and what does it do Under the D- Drive gear? I have not been able to find this in the manual.
View 19 RepliesOB2 Code PO401 came up. What does that code stand for.
View 2 RepliesWhen installing front lift shackles, do you place jack stands under the axle, or the frame? I can't really find an answer. I assumed the axle, but i saw a thread and from what i could see it looked like it was supported at the frame and the axle was hanging free in the air. Just want to be sure before i start unbolting the stock shackles tomorrow and kill myself.
View 14 RepliesWell it was a nice and sunny day last Friday and as I was driving home my car started to make a weird noise like I upgraded my engine, but to my disappointment at the next stop light my transmission (AT) wouldn't do anything and just sat there revving the engine. So having had this problem before, I thought it was just the software that they needed to upgrade again, but to my surprise after having the car towed in of course, I find out after 5 DAYS because they were busy to look at it before, that my transmission is OUT they found some loose metal pieces that came off the valve on the transmission (the noise I was hearing).
I almost forgot my A/C is not working either , but luckily I work at a dealership and I will be looking to trade in the passat because I can't handle the disappointments anymore. And btw it's a 06 with 33000 miles package 1
Automatic transmission died on my Variant at 100,450 miles. I did not expect to have this failure so soon, but I was pleasantly surprised that dealership replaced tranny for FREE without any questions asked, even having a fact that mileage on my car passed the covered limit.
View 2 RepliesI purchased a 2002 VW Passat Wagon two months ago. Upon Purchasing the Car the dealer notified me I would need to purchase a "Torque Converter." I failed to do so. Before I changed the oil, the car was running great! And, after the oil change. The car began to act up and the transmission would kick back!
After, I took it to a local dealer. They told me "Transmission Replacement is required," and Internal Slippage and Fluid Burnt.
I just don't understand, how the transmission began to act up after I changed the oil.
I can reverse the car great, and shift to drive.
I have a problem with my transmission I believe. Its 2004 passat 4-cyl turbo. Not sure whats wrong. When i start the car the entire display (P-R-N-D) is lit up like they are all in gear. It drives but seems to be stuck in 3rd gear I would guess.
View 2 RepliesAlright, been tuned for a few months now, APR stage I. When I turn off ESP and make a quick acceleration from stop sometimes I hear a loud thud from under the car when the car changes from 1st to 2nd gear, like someones hitting as hard as they can with a mallet. It only seems to happen when I have ESP turned off though. Any thoughts? It sounds like its horrible for my transmission, its probably happened 3 times in the last couple weeks but now I'm afraid to peel out fast in my car because of possible damage to the transmission. Could it be the valve body that's in recall? Or some other issue?
Guess its pertinent to mention, 06 2.0T with Triptonic and 72k miles.
I'm currently at 115k miles on my 2.0t automatic 2006 passat. As of last week my transmission is starting to act up. my car has been driven on the highway 90% of its life. the shifts are becoming very hard and it is not shifting at the right revs from time to time, sometimes itll go into 4th gear and chirp the tires.
yesterday the dashboard showed me in 2nd gear at all times when it was obviously shifting . the dash also showed that all the gears were selected along with park, reverse, and sport mode while i was in drive.
the interesting part is that when i drive my car in tiptronic mode, there are no issues with shifting and the shifts are normal, not slamming into gear. the dealer has not looked at the car yet but they said it could be a sensor or a true transmission issue.
It's a 99 Passat 1.8 T
The last time it was checked: Last year around March-April
People are complaining about sudden acceleration with the DSG transmission. They had to up the warranty to ten years and fix cars too. After I read that I realized my TDI DSG has this issue but I just chalked it up to my driving. Sometimes when you hit the gas the car jumps B/C it drops a gear when it's not called for. I can't picture VWoA even entertaining this. Does the phrase "operating as designed" sound familiar?
View 11 RepliesI have a 2000 Passat 1.8T with the 5 speed automatic. Bought it four months ago; it now has 188,000 miles on it. According to the service records, (The car has full records and was always serviced by one dealer) the transmission fluid has never been changed. This makes me a little crazy, as the manual recommends a 60k interval.
BUT, the dealer says this is no longer recommended, the transmission shouldn't be touched except to check the level. Two other dealers agree. I've also asked a few independent shops, and everyone says if it's gone this long, changing it would probably cause the transmission to malfunction. They say leave it alone as long as it lasts.
The transmission seems to work fine, with two possible exceptions: The first couple of shifts when cold are slightly harsher than when warm; and twice (in 6,000 miles) I got a noticeable "clunk" when going into reverse.
I am loosing gear oil through an odd place . There appears to have been a rubber boot or cover over this area that got cooked by a hot exhaust (whole other story there). This is left (passenger side) just above where the axle enters the gearbox. Not sure what this is and how I can resolve the issue. I have temporarily used silicone to stop the flow and have topped off the gear oil, but am still leaking a little. I have already done some damage to the bearings I fear, as the tranny really whines when I get up into 4th and 5th.
View 4 RepliesI just brought the car into the shop to have the transmission fluid pan gasket changed, then have the fluid refilled with the proper OEM fluid. Prior to that it had Redline transmission fluid and was working fine.
The shop I took it to only works on VW and Audi and the mechanic told me I HAD to use OEM transmission fluid or I could damage the transmission. Now when I hit the gas pedal on every cold start it jerks into first gear but never does it again, until the next cold start.
Where do I start, 97 Passat VR6 Wolfsburg Edit, 01M trans with AAA engine. 140000 miles. Here is what it is doing! Starts and runs fine.....until I stop, turn the car off, let the fans cool the engine, and then try to start it up again. Then All breaks loose. Car is running rich, almost dieing, sputtering, throws ALL sorts of engine and transmission codes. Everything from MAF sensor to misfire to trans solenoids, I mean the codes are all across the board. Then I can take my generic scanner and reset the CEL and all is good for a couple of miles.
Now, here is what I have done to the car:Tranny: new synthetic oil and filter, removed, cleaned and replaced the valve body with new solenoids, and complete wiring harness, NEW Transmission Control Module. All new 3 New trans sensors, 1 Trans Speed Sensor and 2 other sensors, g38 and g68 i think.
Engine: New, Bosh,Synthetic Oil and filter, New Ignition Switch and Key and tumbler.New Valve Cover Gasket,Bosh, Plugs and New Bosh Plug Wires., Brand New Vw ignition, Brand New Bosh, Auxiliary Water Pump and rubber gromets. New tires,...Pulled floor pan carpet out and dried up mat after the rain where my daughter left the passenger side window and sunroof open. I will try to drive it today without turning any of the lights on the dash on to see if possibly I have an electrical issue with the dash and lights or something.
How can I check level of oil in Tiptronic Transmission.
View 2 RepliesMy Passat does not seem to be a morning person... For some time now, I've had this issues. It happens regardless of weather, but it seems that whenever I park the passat overnight, when I start it up in the morning it acts funny. The car is VERY hesitant to get out of first or second gear (Automatic, btw), but usually by the 2nd shift, the car is back to normal. I usually just tiptronic the first two gears and then its fine, but the weird thing is, something makes a horrid noise while this goes on. Around 3,000-4,000k RPMs, there is some rattle/grind noise.
Along with the hesitation, the noise leaves as well. This problem has been ongoing for some time, and I just cant for the life of me figure out why? It doesn't seem to happen if the car sits around all day even for 10 hours. It honestly seems like the passat "goes to sleep" and then when I "wake it up" in the morning, it doesn't want to shift. I've had warm days, cool days, humid, dry, raining...doesn't seem to be related to the climate.
In the passat section, if you scroll through the many safety features of the passat, you'll see the brake transmission shift interlock. It states: your foot must be on the brakes to shift out of drive--in either direction.
But what about sport mode? Do I have to put my foot on the brake (and come to a stop) to engage the sport mode? It was my understanding I could engage sport mode at anytime (while in motion).
This is the first car I've ever owned with an automatic transmission. When the car is stopped and in gear, I can feel a slight vibration and hear some accompanying noise. Shifting to neutral gets rid of the noise and vibration. Is this normal? Car has 9500 miles.
View 2 RepliesMy 2004 V6 has about 21,000 miles, and has run perfectly from day one. However, the last few days I've noticed a whining sound which I think is from the transmission. when I first start out, at very low speeds. I don't think it occurs at higher speeds, but I'm not sure because of road and engine noise. The noise doesn't really bother me--goes away quickly. But is this something I need to have the dealer look at? It's still under warranty.
