I was driving my car about a week ago and when turning onto the HWY it just cut out and stoped running. pulled the key out and put it back in and started right up. Well today the same problem happened to me while i was on the HWY, pulled the key out and put it back in and it started right up. What is causing this to happen?
View 9 RepliesI got my Passat about 1 month ago, and I have this pull to the right. Which is annoying, as I drive quite a bit on the highway.
At the dealer, they "fixed" it by moving the tires around and matching tires with the same side wall rigidity. I got my car back, and it's still pulling to the right.
Came on while i was driving on the highway, i pulled into a rest stop turned my car off gave it a minute. drove it again and it came on after like 10 seconds.pulled off the next exit, turned it on gave it a minute again and i haven't gotten it on since. this was two days ago.

View 7 RepliesSo I was driving for 6 hours yesterday and about 3 hours in my boost completely cut out on the highway. I didn't get any CEL or EPC light or anything. I took a look under the hood and everything looks okay. I also thought maybe the turbo blew but it isn't smoking or anything. What it could be?? Or some way I can diagnose the problem?? I have a 6 hour drive back home and would like some boost! It is a 2000 Passat 1.8T ....
View 5 RepliesJust got my H&R's put on this week and it felt GREAT! But today as I was driving on the highway (stop and go) then road began to clear up, I felt a tremble (Shimmy) coming from the front of the car. I pulled over and checked to see if wheel lugs were safely secured and they were also check to see if there was any play on the top of the front shocks and they were ok I don't feel it in the steering wheel, I only feel it coming from the front. This has only happened once in the past but only when the car was parked with the ebrake on, but it was a very subtle tremble, I was wondering if it may be a motor mount that is either worn out or loose and or it will need a alignment given that it wasn't done after the suspension got put on.......
View 9 RepliesI've been noticing that my 2012 Passat TDI with 125,000 miles, hasn't been shifting to 6th gear when driving down the highway. I've actually noticed it's one gear too low even when driving down city streets. We have been experiencing extreme cold weather in Pennsylvania, so perhaps that's a factor.
If I manually shift to 6th gear, it stays in gear, but it appears that the engine RPMs are a bit lower than usual as well, but I could be wrong there.
Just had new front tires installed today and drove home. Car felt fine driving at 60 kph. Drove tonight on the highway and felt a bit of shaking. Its not as severe but can be felt sightly. Didn't feel this (slight) shaking with my old worn tires at highway speeds. What could it be? Btw, bought the car used last year at my local dealer and I haven't done an alignment yet since then.
View 7 RepliesJust got the car back from the dealer a couple weeks ago after the engine was vibrating. Replaced one of the valves and it worked great. Now a few days ago I was driving home and the AC just flat out died. I know the 06's have a problem with the AC, but I think this is something different because the fan doesn't come on at all (with the AC on or off) either. When I turn the AC on, there is absolutely no response. RPMs don't go up as they would when the AC unit comes on, the fan doesn't come on... nothing. All that happens is the yellow light on the AC button turns on. The compass on my rear view mirror doesn't come on either. The turbo doesn't seem to kick in at all. If it kicking, it's very very weak. This all happened at the same time as the AC failure.
I checked the fuses, and everything seems to be okay. The console, for the first time ever, is saying I need to take the car in for maintenance in so many miles and in so many days. I've never gotten this message before. The car is 100% driveable though, other than the lack of power due to the turbo not coming on and not having AC in these hot 100+ degree days...
Lots of SAFETY concerns . At 927am Feb 15, 2105 while driving at 100 kph on the highway (25 min) my drivers door opened to the safety stop by itself!
While driving and turning the corner my radio occasionally changes radio stations and sometimes goes to MAX volume! You cannot turn it down or off!
Drives door whistles at 70kph took it to dealer 6 times no solution!

This is on an 2012 SEL, 34K on it. Since the last couple of months, I have noticed that there some wub-wub-wub sound coming the wheels, well, at least from the road surface while drivng on highway speeds.
The sound is just like something is touching the tires, but can't be sure. I may have sensed some very minute shaking as well which may seem correlating with the wub-wub frequency. But as you can see, I am not quite sure how describe it. It is not a distinct sound, not something very obvious. But it is there. I asked my SO too, and both of use can notice the sound independently, so it is perfectly reproducible. The sound appears to be coming from the front, but it is hard to pin point. I also tried opening the window at 65 mph, but the wind and road noise just drowns out all other sounds.
I have thought of getting its wheels balanced as the first step. Went to Costco but apparently they balance only the wheel with tires sold by them on them. I am thinking of taking it to the dealership but want to be prepared by some basic info myself. Hence this question. Hopefully, they wont come and tell me that the wheel drive shaft or some such needs to be changed.
My front right tire has been squealing when I turn. It also makes a high pitch tone when driving on the Interstate or at faster speeds. (It might be the wheel barrings - is that the same thing as a CV joint?)
Is the power steering fluid found under the green cap, under the hood? Cause I checked that and it was filled. What do I do? I don't like the squeak when I turn, nor the high pitch constant sound when driving on the interstate. Also I just posted a report about really poor gas mileage. Could these problems be connected??
So i was driving last night at 6am driving my friend home after drinking... and the airbag light came on on the HWY it said "AIRBAG FAILED" then i went to get gas turned off the car... then the light went away when i left... that would stay on the history on the ECU... i wanna know if i should take it to the dealer..
View 3 RepliesI had the wheel bearings replaced at my 5000 mile oil change. The noise is still there. Rotors warped, axle bearings, it gets louder when I turned to the right on the highway and gets quieter when I turn left (classic wheel bearing sound).

This morning (roughly freezing temperature - nothing out of the ordinary after the brutal winter we just had) got onto the highway to head to work and set the cruise control (as normal) at approx 110km/h (65mph) and after several seconds heard a distinct, quite unpleasant grinding noise. It was loud enough to be heard over the heater and radio. Turned the heater and radio off to listen closer and didn't like the sound of it - sounded like metal on metal.
There was no different feel in the floor, pedals or steering wheel. As soon as I turned cruise control off, the noise disappeared! Turned cruise control back on, and the noise returned approx 5 seconds later. If I continued driving along normally and sustained a certain speed, the noise would appear after 5 seconds again and only go away once I lifted off the gas or coasted down a hill... Very bizarre. Once I got to work and poked my head underneath didn't immediately notice anything out of the ordinary - no funny smells or anything...
Background info: 2011 FX4 ecoboost, crew cab. Stock, no modifications. Approx 134,000km (~80,000 miles)...
For the past month or so I have had something strange going on. When driving between 65 to 70 on the highway, I've turned my steering wheel slightly to the right and if there is a cross wind or head wind there is a vibrating sound. And it does get loud. I don't really feel it in the steering wheel. Only when there is a wind. I haven't done anything new to the truck since winter.
View 4 RepliesMy '01 Aztek has a very odd shimmy. It only happens when turning right, at highway speeds, and when accelerating. Not when turning left, and not while just 'coasting'. Only when accelerating.
The mechanic replaced a tie rod end, and that seemed to fix things for a few hundred miles. But now it's back and is happening at lower speeds.
It is a '90 Nissan Maxima. I just replaced my drivers side axle (cv joint was clicking), and now my car vibrates at highway speeds when turning right. I am pretty sure I seated the axle correctly....could it be a bad axle? I heard that turning the axle 90 degrees and reinstalling may work? I got a new axle (Empi brand).
View 2 RepliesI have a 2013 elantra with 42,200 kms. Recently I've been hearing a creaking nose while driving. Sounds like it is coming from the front driver side. Sound gets worse turning and speeding up on the highway on ramps. At highway speed the sound gets faster and almost sounds like a tapping noise.
At first I thought it was a strut but the strut feels stiff when pushing down on corner of car and I can't make the noise without driving. Sounds like maybe a ball joint to me?
I'm booking an appointment with the dealer tomorrow. I'm assuming that if problem is ball joint that it would be covered under warranty and not considered a wear and tear item as there's only 42k on the car.
I've been having a problem which i cant seem to find the fix for. My ABS and ECS dash light keep turning on. Its intermittent and does not stay on. Ive noticed that it usually happens if I travel at highway speeds for more than 15miles. I had the brakes x4 changed 1 year ago and all brake pads show good life. Brake fluid is at a good level with no leaks to be seen. I am wondering if its one of the sensors? How can one check for that? I have a 2006 3.3l GLS with 86k.
