View 3 RepliesNew 2014 SE 2.5L owner here. Gonna Amsoil my rig when it hits 5K. I bought a filter wrench and drain plug gaskets online. What's the torque spec. on the filter housing and drain plug?

I have heard 36ft lbs, I just feel like that is a lot and want to confirm. Any horror stories on snapping these plugs? I'm planning to get new crush washers.
Any experience with just using a fluid extractor to do multiple drain and fills from the dipstick? I've heard the tubing can sometimes melt/break off, but was considering this route to not have to deal with snapping a drain plug.
Tried searching, tried checking my hanyes manual and my factory service manual I have in pdf, neither lists a torque, or at least that I can find.
What is the ATF drain plug size and its torque spec?
View 3 RepliesGonna change my oil in a hour or so and I was wondering what the torque spec is for the oil drain plug.
View 3 RepliesDoing the oil change today and I'd like to know where the oil drain plug is. I have the skid plate off but I'm not 100% sure on the plug location.
View 1 RepliesI have replaced my oil pan gasket with a felpro. I had oil leaking from the top of the oil filter. This oil pan has the filter going through it. I have replace the oil cooler cap and gasket and finally replaced the oil pan gasket. It worked. I do no have any leaks from above the filter. But I am leaking from inside the bell housing. It is still coming from the oil pan and nowhere else. (I have dye in the oils and can see it leaking)
SO I went back to the Haynes to recheck the torque settings. I originally torqued all of the bolts for 89 inch lbs Per the haynes manual)
here is what it says:
oil pan bolts:
step one (to engine and front cover)............89 in-lbs
step two (to rear cover).............................18 foot-lbs
this step two is not too clear.....
which bolts are the bolts to the rear cover??
what I think this means is the 2 long rear bolts that go to the rear cover should be 18 foot-lbs. in the haynes manual they are bolts 13 and 14.
Is this right.....I started to do this but then stopped becuase I felt I was going to strip the bolts.
This kind of makes sense due to there are no other bolts in the middle of the rear of the pan to the block.
Looking for ccess to a '13 Toyota Factory Service Manual (FSM) that states the torque specification for the oil pan drain bolt on the 3.5L?
If the '13 FSM is similar to the '05 FSM, the torque value will appear on the diagram that shows the oil pan assembly. I believe the spec is 30 ft-lbs (with a new washer), but I want to confirm.
What torque setting I should use for lug nuts on a 2000 F-350 dually?
View 7 RepliesSo I have the oil filter out and can't get the drain plug off the pan. I tried the 034motorsports dogbone insert but I couldn't get that bolt loose either. Mainly looking for tips on the drain plug. Even when I put extra leverage on the ratchet if won't budge.
View 7 RepliesI had found the torque specs for the oil plug, oil filter housing the oil filter housing drain plug but I am unable to locate now.
30 ft lb drain plug
25 ft lb filter housing
10 ft lb filter housing drain plug
First week with my new Advanced and I love it. Can't wait until I get plates and my Green HOV sticker. I use the car for my daily commute and have a very regular schedule. Is there any way to make a permanent setting of the charge start time? It's a bit of a pain to have to set it every time I get home. I have RTFM but haven't found any way to do this?
View 4 RepliesI had my 10k service done at the dealership earlier this year, currently at 16.5K miles. My GTI was parked at my parents' garage for a week while I was away for travel. When I returned and went to move my car, I noticed a puddle of oil under the GTI. Since it was a sunday, there were no dealership service departments open, so I went to a quick change oil place and they told me that there is a leak at the drain plug. The tech noticed the oil was low, drained the oil and replaced the drain plug, and when they filled the oil, it immediately started leaking at the drain plug. They added teflon tape to temporarily work with the leak. I will be scheduling a service appointment at the dealer I had my 10k service done.
Have a MK6 and experienced a leak at the drain plug? Could this leak be due to the dealership service tech over tightening the drain plug at my 10k service? The quick oil change place did note that I came in with a leak from the drain plug, in case the dealership tries to blame the oil change place for the leak.
I have around 127 miles on my car and was using it as a daily for sometime for work. Due to this, oil changes were done by Kauffman Tire, work paid. Now that I am in a different role my car is not my daily any longer and I tired to change my own oil. My oil filter cap drain plug is hollowed out! I couldn't get it out at all with the 6mm Allen. I thought I would be able to take the filter off from the inside. I soon found out I can't do that. Am I stuck buying a new filter cap and plug from the dealer? Any way to get the filter off without the drain plug?
View 9 RepliesI changed my oil for the first time last weekend and all went well, except that i could not remove the washer from the drain plug. I got a new one from the parts counter along with a filter. the new washer definitely had a larger diameter than the one that was on the plug. I re-used the washer on the plug and re-checked things tonight. no leaks - so i should be OK. Maybe I'll just pick up a new drain plug next time...
View 3 RepliesEdit (3/2/13): Problem identified. The timer was incorrectly and inadvertently set, so charging wouldn't start. See this post below.
Three times in the past two weeks, my PiP has refused to take a charge. It happened twice on Chargepoint chargers. The second time, I plugged in and the charger displayed "Vehicle refused charge" or something similar. Tried 10 times with the same result. Then it charged fine at home, and on 240v the next day.
This morning, it won't charge at home on 110. Plug in, the brick clicks, it draws about 200 ma for a couple of seconds, and then zero. Totally repeatable.
No fault codes on Torque. The dealer had it earlier this week and couldn't make it happen or see any fault codes either. The first time it happened the charging cable was off the ground, so I suspected a bent pin, but they all look fine.
I have a 1993 Isuzu Trooper. I put too much oil in the other day, about half a quart, and wanted to drain it out of the bottom. I loosened the drain plug like normal and it wouldn't come out at all, just spun in the same place. Tried retightening the plug and it wouldn't tighten either. It was tight when I started. It would get tight for a second and then get loose again, feeling like a stripped thread. Oil is leaking out from around the plug. I cannot twist the plug with my fingers, so its not super loose but it's loose enough to leak oil. Is this a easy fix for an oversized plug or will the entire oil pan have to be replaced?

View 1 RepliesThe winter snow/ice up here in AK has knocked off my oil drain plug/filter cover. The dealership wants $300 for a new cover plus a few more bucks for the 10 plastic clips to attach it. Any way/source to get this cheaper? I'm guessing I can manage to clip it in myself...
View 6 RepliesSo i went to do an oil change on my 05 elantra but the oil drain plug is tightened too tight. I tried to unscrew it with my 17mm 6 contact deep socket wrench but no luck. I noticed the edges of the plug starting to get eaten away so i stopped. What do i do now. I was really excited to do my own oil change but i couldnt even get past the 1st step. I dont have access to an inpact wrench but i've been told not to use that anyway with the oil drain plug.
