after I had my springs installed I noticed this air sound when I go over bumbs. is this normal.? if I upgrade my shockts to aftermarket will they make the same sound?
View 9 RepliesI had no rattling before H&R sport spring install but now it's coming from what sounds like the top of the strut when I go over small bumps at slower speeds. All bushings and ball joints etc. are new . It's like a clunking banging noise?
View 2 RepliesOn my 99 at the tip of the springs there is what looks used to be plastic wear spacers between the leafs. Mine are worn out and I think it is part of a squeak noise I am chasing.
What that part would be, where I could get them, and do I have to break down the leaf assembly to change them or could I raise the truck by the frame and take the load off the springs enough to get the in?
I recently got an MK7, coming from a MK5, and I installed the VWR springs 8 days ago. Since then I've noticed an intermittent clunking sound coming from the rear suspension. I installed springs on my MKV without any issues and again on several other cars, soIi'm familiar with the process. Everything was torqued to spec after the install.
My best description of the sound would be a clunk, not any rattling, clicking, or squealing. The sound is greater in the passenger side rear than the drivers side rear. No issues with anything up front. Sometimes it occurs when I'm turning the steering wheel while backing out of parking spots and driving slowly, other times when I hit bumps in the road, but it is not constant nor does it seem dependent on the size of the bump/pot holes in the road.
What may be causing this? My plan was to give it a week for everything to settle before I tore everything apart to look for any culprit.
The front end makes a squeak when you hit a bump. Not all bumps, but some bigger bumps will make a little squeak. The car is a 2012 passat se. Sitting on h&r sport springs, and stock shocks and struts. 35k miles.

It recently got very, very cold here and the drivers door makes a loud unlubricated squeak every time we open it. It has warmed up but the squeak remains. What kind of lube to use on the door hinges? Silicon spray or something else?

View 10 RepliesI have a 2013 tdi. 40k miles. For the past few weeks iv been hearing a noise from the front. On small bumps or potholes or just going over a bumpy road its. Its like a rattle clunky sound. Going in my driveway I hear it too. I also noticed there is a squeak when i hit a medium to bigger hole. This is really annoying because this car is fairly new. Is the dealer gonna cover it if there is anything wrong?
View 5 RepliesMy front suspension squeaks very loudly when going over even the slightest of bumps. I've looked at similar threads and have noticed some people replace the entire control arm, some just replace control arm bushings, others change the strut mounts/bearings.
Am I better off replacing all 3 components (control arms, bushings, and strut mounts/bearings) or just doing CA bushings and/or strut mounts? Do control arms normally need to be replaced? Car has 90K miles, and is daily driven year around during the cold Minnesota winter. My knowledge of suspension components is limited.
My wifes Passat wagon just got the 40k service and the dealer replaced the sway bar bushings in hopes of getting rid of some SQUEAKS that the car has made since we got it, it is lowered on h&r springs and bilstien shocks, however the sway bar bushings really didn't fix it, it seems to squeak when turning to the left and its definitely coming from the back.
View 7 RepliesI need to figure out a knocking sound that I have coming from my rear struts. I installed new springs on my 2011LE 4cyl yesterday and now when I hit some bumps I get a knocking sound. I didn't cut down my factory bumpers so I think that might be the reason but I first wanted to get your option. The spring drop it's 1.5 on some Megen springs.
View 6 RepliesI installed H&R lowering springs this weekend and now the suspension is making quite a bit of noise. I've double and triple checked the installation, and this isn't my first rodeo, so I don't think anything is improperly installed.
I'm hearing popping/banging over large bumps. I do believe that the noise is most noticeable when my tires drop off into a pothole and the suspension is unloaded. I think the noise is caused by the suspension being uncompressed and then the coils of the springs either hitting themselves or hitting the top hat.
Experienced excessive noise with the H&R springs? I think my next course of action is to get some spring isolators and see if that stops the noise.
I had the clock spring recall done last week and now when I turn my wheel almost to full lock for a tight turn, it has a little "chirp" when going past a certain point. I'll definitely bring it back to them to correct it, but I'm guessing no quick fix but I can easily remove my airbag and check from there.
View 4 RepliesI've got an '08 FX4 that has developed quite a loud and annoying squeak from the rear leaf springs. It happens when I'm slowly applying power and going over bumps such as speed bumps or similar. More so when I'm going up hill.
I initially thought it was a u-joint going bad, and had my driveline mechanic take a look at it. He discovered it was the rear leafs making the noise. He sprayed them with an aerosol light grease and the noise was instantly gone. The problem is, the noise comes back after the grease spray has worn off (usually after driving in the rain) which happens a lot in the Vancouver area.
This is my 3rd Ranger and I have never had this problem. I don't drive in unusual places (beach, sandy, dusty areas) so I don't know why this is happening. It does look rusty in the areas that I can see in between the individual leafs. Is this a common problem for this vintage of Ranger?
I recently installed solowerks s1 coilovers and now I get this knocking sound coming from both front wheels. This only happens while turning at low speed and stops once I get past 30mph. Also there sounds like a rattle or clanking when going over bumps in a straight line. These 2 sounds are completely different. From what I've researched, I think the problem is broken top strut mounts. I wanted some second opinions on it before I buy the strut mounts and get in there.

Over the last few days, I've noticed that my steering wheel makes a rubbing / vibrating sound as I turn the wheel and press the brakes. This is happening as I'm pulling in or out of a parking spot, or when I slow down to take a wide turn.
View 4 RepliesI just had a set of VWR springs installed on my 2011 GTI (35,xxx).
I've noticed a very discernible clunk coming from the driver's side front wheel particularly when traveling over a dip in the road (when the spring and suspension is extending). The sound only comes from the one wheel well - the other three sound fine.
I'm bringing it in for an alignment tomorrow (recommend after the spring install). Sounds almost like a bad bushing?
I have a 2002 1.8T with about 75k miles which makes a harsh rhythmic sound at idle after about 30 minutes of driving. If I tap the accelerometer to increase the rpm and release it goes away and is silent. Recently it also seems to be making the same sound when it starts but goes away as soon as I drive. The sound seems to be coming from the front lower right (passenger side).
I have changed the timing belt about 18 months ago (along with the water pump, tensioner, etc. using an ECS tuning kit) and it ran fine (seemed even smoother than before) but it had a small engine oil leak which my mechanic fixed. I think this sound started after he repaired the leak. I've left the car with him for a week and he just called and said it he couldn't figure it out but it could be an oil pressure problem but I have not had any issues with an oil pressure light.
I have had issues with the P0411 code over the same and have replaced both the secondary air pump and the combi valve but the code just reappeared and my mechanic says he has checked the entire system again and can't figure out what is causing the problem. Not sure if the two can be related but just thought I would add that. The car runs fine otherwise and I have always used synthetic and the large oil filter but I am beginning to think this could be a sludge issue (the noise).
I have a 1999 passat 1.8t with 197k miles. When I drive if you listen really closely the engine makes a pretty cool sound like a turbo winding. It's a really really low whooooooo on the first and second gear. You cant hear it unless you have the windows down and there's like no other cars. Is this normal? My friend said the turbo might be going bad ?

I doubt that I went over the load limit. Any car should hold up 5 people with some weight in the trunk... right?
View 10 RepliesI am replacing my rear leaf spring hanger and shackle. I have one side done and the other side the old hanger is off. I am ready to install but the bolt/ bushing in the leaf spring will not come out. I tried every thing with what i had for about 2 hours. Is there a tool to remove these things similar to a ball joint press.
