My Variant (2007, 48K miles) is experiencing a squealing noise during cold morning (below 45F) start ups? AC always off at start up and the noise goes away once the engine is warmed up. View 12 RepliesI have an 02 Passat GLS. Its seems that when uts really cold out and I got to start my car in the morning it lets out a squealing noise. I just had my engine serviced so I doubt its any of the belts but I dont know for certain. Any VW buffs out there who know?
View 1 RepliesRecently I've noticed more that when we first start the hyundai in the morning or after sitting a while and we use the brakes it grinds/ squeals a little and then doesn't after about 2 or 3 miles. Is this something to get checked out or should I spray something on my brakes to lubricate?
My next step that I though of was to get a simple automatic car wash cause it's been a bad winter in Rhode Island and the street shave been flooded with rock salt. I figure that might cause some friction under the pads.
My G1 prius (2001) started making a grinding noise when I start it up in the morning. There are no warning lights (yet) and it drives fine, but that noise can't be good -- something will fail shortly. I've searched the internet quite thoroughly and there was one similar problem reported, which ended up being linked to the ABS pump. The noise seems to come from the inverter, or somewhere under the inverter. I took a video of it and posted it here.
View 19 RepliesEvery now and then I have rattling noise when trying to start on a cold start in the morning. Mainly just sounds like a dry start. Battery is good, oil is full (high mileage Valvoline 5W20). Ive tried 5W-30 and it didn't do anything, just made the mpgs about 1 less.
Ive had the car fixed for the main TSB issue with the starter/camshaft so that is not it, which caused a full on grinding noise.
Everyday commuter car, use 87 chevron gas always, and I just used Lucas gas additive the last two fill ups (used normally every 1k miles) and still getting the noise every now and then in the morning. Are there any better injector cleaners out there?
Should I get the fuel injectors fully 3step cleaned? when talking to the service rep at brake-masters, they stated that I should use 91 premium gas to work with dry starts to burn off extra carbon buildup. Wasn't sure if that was a good idea for a 09 corolla S?
93k miles, new spark plugs last week, oil changes every 3k.
What is this metal on metal noise...you hear it the best around the 7-12 second mark...it is especially loud on cold start in the morning when you put the car in "drive" but don't move the car forward. It also is prevalent on hot days when you park the car outside and just start the car. The sound gets louder when you turn on the a/c during the hot day.

My father-in-law's 2001 Lexus RX300 makes squealing/whistling sound when engine is cold. Multiple serpentine belts replacements and adjustments made no difference. One mechanic said it's the bearing inside the alternator, but I find it difficult to believe. Why would bearing sound go away when it heats up? Besides, having issues with bearings inside things like alternators and such.

I have complained to VW dealer and they changed something in my rear suspension, but the noice is still here. I think it is coming from the front suspension. 2006 Passat. It is usually in the am when i start the car and than goes away later.
I think this is what they did for me, but it did not fix the noice.

My '07 2.0T 6MT has started making a clicking / ticking noise when it is first started in the morning. The car is garaged, so it doesn't get all that cold. The noise seems to be coming from behind the center dash, in the area behind the climate control and radio panels. It doesn't last particularly long (maybe 3 seconds, clicking perhaps 3 times per second or so). It happens whether the radio is on or not, so it's not the CD changer shuffling discs or anything like that. I suspect it has something to do with the Climatronic system's ducting.
I had a Saab that made a noise similar to this, and they had to disassemble the entire dash before they found that the drum that directs air to the various vents was sticking. It ended up costing $1500 in labor to do the job. So I'm looking for a sanity check before I send my dealer on a long, expensive hunt that will likely result in a "no fault found" or "could not duplicate".
When it is cold (below 30 degrees) and above about 30mph, there is a loud high pitched squeal (rather like the pitch of a squealing hearing aide)that seems to come form the front drivers side. The colder it is, the louder it is.
When I am able to take it in it is too warm to hear it. What might be causing the noise and will they be able to figure it out if it isn't making the sound?
Need to determine the cause of a strange high-pitched squealing noise coming from the engine compartment of my 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5l automatic. The squeal happens only when the temperature is cold (below 32 degrees) AND I hit a bump. It happens more often the colder it is outside. The noise is definitely coming from the front of the car and seems like the passenger side but I can't be sure. It happens with the blower fan/AC both on and off so I don't think it is caused by that. It happens when the car is cold or driven for a while and warmed up.
It occurs at both high & low speeds. I checked all my fluids under the hood and everything is filled as it should be. There are no lights (check engine or ABS) on. Recommend any troubleshooting that I can try? I have not taken it to a mechanic yet as they might have a hard time reproducing the noise since it has to be below freezing and hit a decent bump. I attach a video that I took while driving last week on a 16 degree day and heard the squeal when I hit a bump. I had been driving for about 30 min when it occurred. I have more videos of the noise if needed.
Have a 06 2.0T Passat that decided to start making some kind of god awful squeling noise today.. Sounds like it is come from the drivers side underneath possibly.. Funny thing is when you turn the car off it stays on for a few seconds till it runs out of pressure or something..
Car does have 103k on it if that matters..
All was fine with it until a month or so ago. Now, after the car is first turned on and the AC is turned on, it makes a terrible squealing sound. The moment the AC is turned off it stops. If the AC is left on, it will generally make the noise for a good 20 seconds, stop, and then repeat that a couple more times(and the noise will cease for as long as the car is on).
I popped the hood and took a look (I'm assuming the compressor is on the lower left), and when the AC is off it spins fine. However, when the AC is turned on, the fan starts up, then it visibly stops spinning and really struggles to spin, causing the noise. Do I need a new compressor?
My 2003 Passat 4cyl turbo makes an extremely loud noise whenever I am in reverse...its seems to happen only when I tap the brakes. Several of my neighbors have heard the sound and expressed concern. I have had it at the dealer and they found no problem. I bought this car new in 2003 . The sounds seems to come and go. Maddening....It just happeneded again today. The car is garage kept, has only 31,000 miles on it, and has always been dealer maintained. The car is in pristine shape in and out.

Currently, I am experiencing the following problem: When it is cold outside (this is 20 to 25 degrees F), the car would not start the other morning. Everything inside the car is working (i.e. lights, radio, fan, sunroof etc.), a sign that battery is in good shape. Before buying the car, the owner replaced all the expendable parts you can imagine. Once it is getting warmer, the car would start perfectly well.
In the Consumer Guide I read the following about starting problems in the trouble spots section (referring to the 1992-1996 Camry series): "Hard starting: Hard starting after cold soak is due to ignition-coil voltage leaking to an inappropriate ground." All models, not a specific year.
On this thread I just found a comment posted on Jan. 31, 2004 by "yotatechie04", saying that - obviously - a similar problem occured to him on a 1999 model, and he found it had to do with "oil density".
Question: Is hard starting - for example after a cold night - a well known problem to 1994 model? What about the hint regarding "ignition-coil voltage leaking" and "oil density". What can be done?
Last week, my Mazda 6 wagon would not start ... Jumped by auto club, and told the right battery cable was not tightly connected to battery. Car was ok for 2 days... Then same thing, it would not start, jumped again, battery was ok per auto club. Car ran for one day, then jumped again and brought to mechanic. Mechanic has had 24 hours, replaced new battery and cable connection... still not starting consistently with cold weather???

Since my V6s very rough ride only occurred on cold mornings (fixed with a new driveshaft early this year), I wonder if some of the newer owners will be complaining of this problem soon, now that we're embarking on fall.
The symptom was strange. On cold mornings, between 30 and 50, the Touareg would feel as though it was riding on extremely rough pavement.... over 50 it was fine, and then, after about ten minutes of driving, it went away at all speeds.
Although the manual is silent on the topic, I can swear that the font seats in my new PriusC warm up on cold mornings. There is no on/off switch for this to happens...
