Passat (B6) :: Speed Shifting When Not Accelerating Hard
Oct 7, 2007
So I put in a Neuspeed torque arm insert, and that has worked with shifting from 1st to 2nd when accelerating hard. But in my '96 Jetta M5 speed I could throw the shifter around into any gear (except 1st if going fast) at any speed.
With the Passat what I find is that I while I can move quickly to a particular gate, I have to enter the gate slowly. I am thinking this is due to having 6 speeds (narrower gates to fit in same space so I have to be more precise), but then I wonder.
When shifting normally, it is very smooth, it is just when I try to shift fast that I notice this. And it happens even when I am shifing fast "but not" accelerating and the engine is not under load. So this happens when I try to downshift from 6th (at 2,000 rpm) to 5th/4th. Notice this when I am doing 50-60 in 6th and then try to quickly drop into a lower gear to get through a yellow light before it changes.
The solution has been to shift fast to the gate and then slowly push it in, but I still have the old reflexs from the Jetta were it was one fast movement.

Was having a hard time shifting fast from 1st to 2nd when accelerating hard, it was like something was blocking the 2nd gear gate, same thing sometimes when downshifing fast from 6th to 5th.
After JT recommending it here, I installed the Neuspeed torque arm insert. Used a scissor jack on the left front side (it has a wide base), got under the car from the front bumper passenger side. 21mm bolt was tight, but got it out with a regular length 1/2 inch socket bar. Insert was hard to get in (even after spraying silicone on it), finally just sprayed silicone into the existing bushing and the insert slipped right in.
First test drive really made it easy to shift from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration only a slight bump when entering the 2nd gear gate, downshifing was smooth too. Down side? none that I noticed, no vibration.

Hard shifting from the car. sort of a slam between gears and while in gear.
Possibly a mount?

I need to know if this is considered "normal" behavior of the transmission. This cold morning while driving in traffic the car just jerked really hard while shifting from 3rd to 2nd and as described in other threads its like someone rear ended the car.
It has only 2650 km, it's a 2012 2.4 6sp automatic 4wd Santa Fe, should I waste my time going to the dealer? It only happened once, no engine light no nothing. Could it be just a "glitch" in the ECM? I read some other threads before posting, but they were a bit older. Has experienced such a shifting bang under low speed with so little mileage?

Noticed the past weeks its hard shifting out of 1st and entering 2nd, not noticeable in 3-6. It clears up as the car warms and after cycling through the gears a few times at operating temp the problem goes away. Ive heard of the notchy shifting due to cable adjustment but thought it was strange its not continuous in my case. Cold weather maybe? Today it almost felt as it would not pull out of first and took way too much effort shifting to 2nd.
6sp manual.

I installed new plugs and ignition coils in my 2008 Passat 3.6L V6 and now I have a slight bog when accelerating hard. Engine runs good otherwise and no codes. I gapped new plugs @ 1.0mm per manual. The old plugs had smaller gap. Would larger plug gap cause the bog?

Our 2008 2.0T Variant with 70K miles runs fine, except while running fully warmed up on the highway. Then, at cruising speed, the engine shudders if you try anything more than gentle acceleration. If you push deliberately on the gas at about 1,500 rpm, the engine shudders, fails to accelerate, and the MIL flashes. This has been going on for a few months.
Wifey is about to go on a road trip and, although she's adjusted to this behavior, I don't wanted her stranded somewhere. The engine is throwing code P0301 (got it read at AutoZone), Cylinder 1 Misfire.
I'm wondering why it only misfires under these conditions, and not, say, while accelerating off the line or while idling.
Any tips? I've already put a bottle of Techron through the tank. Car has had all recall/service bulletin work done, which as I remember included a coil pack recall a few years ago.
I wonder if getting the car into the stealership before her trip is a "must." (I don't have my own scanning tool in order to sequentially troubleshoot coil packs. I can at least check plug wiring.

I have a 2000 passat 2.8 car been hard down shifting when slowing down under 20 mph on the road . shaking a bit and specially on high ac fan. Engine mounts are fine..
I looked if engine mounts if leaking but they were ok. I bought a snub rubber from the dealer and changed it. No deference!!

I've got 95k miles on my 2001.5 and have been noticing that the transmission seems to shift pretty hard. Today it seemed like it was hardest in the 3rd to 2nd downshift. I got it checked out a couple of months ago and the dealer said it was the throttle body (which I haven't cleaned yet).

Its peak summer here and temperatures are around 50c. Recently I am experiencing a strange AC behavior! While driving, AC is blowing very cold air but while stationary air get little less cold and it feels sweaty... Also accelerating car makes AC more cold than cruising on normal speed...
I am wondering what it could be.... I had golf IV and never experienced it even it even parked under 50c summer afternoon.... Two weeks back, they have replaced my AC compressor valve... It could be a fan?

I have been reading about some folks are having those vibration at certain speeds... Recently I also started noticing some strange vibrations... It happens when I am accelrating and driving on curved road at speed 100KM and up... I still cannot detect the source of these vibration as sometime it feels from steeing column or front suspension frame... All I can say its really annoying. Also, mechtronics valve body soon will be replaced as it is driving my DSG really insane.

I own a 1994 Mazda B2300/Ford Ranger. Ever since I have owned it, there has been a slight "thump" when you let off the accelerator. Annoying, but for a cheap truck, I just ignored it. NOW, there is a clunk when I lift off, and when I hit the accelerator after shifting gears. There has been a loud "rumble" sort of sound for about two weeks, and I was told by a mechanic that I needed a "cat back" exhaust. Okay, but when I rev the truck in the driveway, it doesn't sound like the exhaust has issues. I DO get the rumble through the steering wheel and floor of the truck, and up until this morning, when I took the thing out of gear, or stepped on the clutch, the rumble sort of went away. Now, it doesn't.

Here is a video I made of the "Blow off" noise I hear when accelerating/shifting (more than 50% throttle). Sounds kinda cool IMO

The times are listed in the description of the video...

2003 f250 4x4 5.4triton automatic. Everything is great except...when accelerating at about 45-50mph & 2000-2200rpms and it shifts into last gear or overdrive. As it changes gears and drops rpm's to about 1500 the engine/trans kind of vibrates or sounds boggish like it doesn't want to push the weight of vehicle or some sort of compression loss? I'm far from being a mechanic. Also, it tends to be more subdued when accelerating harder up to higher speeds, it is more so when leveling out at about 50mph. It doesn't clunk, or grind, or have any other problems shifting except at 45-50 and dropping rpm's.

Car was running fine, on the way home from work I noticed it having a loud squeal while accelerating, down shifting.
The car squealed all the way home fine, no power loss really no smoke no anything, I let the car sit for a little, warmed it up and decided to go to drive it around so I could diagnose the problem better.. While doing so now let me describe the sound.. it's like the sound when you go in reverse and back up, that winding sound.. that's what it sounded like.
Back to the story while driving to diagnose the problem more within 5 minutes it made a loud sound like an axle falling out almost on the passenger side of the engine, once I got out I could hear it more and more and looked under the car it looked wet and it looked like oil running down but also could of been something else I'm not sure.. I took a video [URL] .....
The car made it home safe and sound and parked but I don't know if my engine is done. To note I only saw one drip of oil come down while I was underneath of the car but shown in the video you can see where it looks wet was not there before I drove it.

Quick q recently just got a gli and I've noticed a knocking sound when accelerating and shifting from stops could this be my motor mounts ? I was thinking my tranny or clutch but everything runs smooth and goes into gear fine

I have a 2012 Honda Accord EX with a manual trans. It's a fly-by-wire system. When accelerating and shifting, the tac momentarily jumps various hundreds of RPMs when the clutch is in. That used to mean you weren't coming off the gas when the clutch was in. I've been driving manual trans cars for 45 years. I know how to shift. But, it was a new car, so maybe... I paid close attention and was not screwing up the shifts. Apparently the computer doesn't realize the clutch is in and the gas pedal has been released. Is this normal for these cars? Is it a problem? (other than wasting a half thimble full of gas and over-reving the engine?)

Lately I have been driving in the Sport Mode more often. I have noticed that when accelerating from a stop it revs to just below the redline before shifitng, is this normal?
I also notice that when slowing down or coming to a stop, it has a "hurky jurky" feel. As if it was downshifiting way to early. is this normal?

2001 F150 5.4 v8 ... In the past few months my truck has been a bit strange, but in the past few weeks it's gotten to the point I'm nervous to drive it. Usually when shifting around 30-35, the engine revs up and stops accelerating and I have to take my foot off the pedal to make it return to normal. It doesn't do this after I do that, but the past time I tried to drive I couldn't get above 35 and the rpm was in the upper 2000s going at a constant 35. When I stop for any reason such as making a turn, when it shifts it lurches forward and I hear a loud clunk.
Naturally, I've checked all the fluids and fuses and they're all fine. The mechanic I regularly visit insists that nothing is wrong with it.

The other day I was driving to work and I noticed my truck wasn't accelerating right and the transmission wasn't shifting into high gear. Its almost like the truck went into neutral around 2000 rpm. What the issue could be? I really don't want to replace my transmission if I don't have to.
