Passat (B6) :: Sneaking Suspicion - PCV Valve Is Out?
May 12, 2010
I have a sneaking suspicion my PCV valve is out, having never had this happen before it is merely an area i want to check off if it happens not to be (although I'm about 98% sure it is).
I have an 06 2.0T and yessss i know i could take it to the dealer and all that good stuff, but i like messing around w. these issues myself to build some confidence w. the motor.
Symptoms include:
V8 style gas mileage (about 21-23 if i'm lucky)
No pep in its step
Abnormal idle and when switched into Neutral idle gets smooth, yet RPMs begin to shudder some
No CEL

My V6 4Motion Passat has a CEL for an N80 valve... tried cleaning, didn't do anything. But its only getting 400-430 kms to the tank, even for winter that's pretty bad for 95% highway driving.
Could that cause bad fuel mileage?

Just wondering if I will know via a check engine light if when my Diverter valve may act up. I don't really want to add a boost gauge if I can let the onboard diagnostics do the work for me. So if I loose boost will I know?

Where is the PCV valve on passat 99?

I've had my 2000 V6 Passat in for service three times with Secondary Air System issues - the dealer said that the whole thing needed replacement. The indy shop identified a couple of things to repair but said total replacement was unnecessary. A secondary airs system valve has been replaced twice (same one both times). Check engine always comes on within a day - we took it to another dealer for their opinion and again. Said that I need to replace the valve (third time!).

Our 2007 Passat 2.0T had the 30K service and the fuel pressure sensor and pressure regulating valve (PCV valve) recalls done several months ago. Several weeks ago the check engine light came on so we took it in to the dealer yesterday. By the way, the car also felt subtly sluggish, had a slightly unstable idle and sometimes seemed to "stick" in gear on deceleration (ie, not shift down normally).
Here are all the DTC codes that were stored:
P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0507, P2187, P2279, P3138, 02635
The service adviser said the problem was that the recall valves that VW sent them were no good (I think he said it was the -F valve) and that they now have an updated valve.
The new part number is 06F-129-101-K
By the way, our Passat is driven "conservatively," ie, no high boost levels or anything else that would stress the PCV valve.

I want to have my oil cap sit close to the valve cover rather then have that long funnel.
I want to go from this:

99 Passat 1.8 Turbo 4 cyl. Noticing a ticking in the valve train. Louder @ cold start. Can't hear it on acceleration, just when sitting. Sometimes it won't do it at all. But most recently it's constant. The other morning I cranked on and the CEL came on.
Took it to mechanic, he let it set for while to cool down, restarted and the CEL was off (hasn't come back on), he could hear the ticking, thought maybe the timing belt needs to be replaced or adjusted, the 02 sensor or possibly week lifters?????
July 06' VW did a "desludge" (for free!) and replace all parts having to do w/ oil and filled w/ synthetic. So that's not the problem. My mechanic isn't familiar with VW valve trains, belts, lifters, heads etc. He's done a great job on everything else, but acts like he's really scared to open this can of worms.

Im replacing my PCV valve (CEL) but im not sure if I should replace it or just the breather hose.

Going to attempt this repair myself to avoid paying the stealership. Previously drove an E46 bmw which by now I am an expert, but am not yet familiar with my VW.

The purge valve keep clicking means it is fail?

I took it to the stealership to get the alternator and some vac. lines replaced all under an extended warranty. They informed me that both valve cover gaskets and right side cam adjuster gaskets are leaking. By no means am I a mechanic or close to but I am trying to get this stuff done as cheap as possible so I am going to try to tackle this myself.

It only happens sometimes, but definitely everyday. I have an 06 Passat 1.8T and when i'm accelerating and it shifts gears from 1 to 2 it sounds like i have a really bad blow off valve, yet i don't. I can't see anything noticeable under the hood. I am thinking its the turbo inlet pipe.

I have a 99 passat 2.8 v6, that closing on 200k miles, and its a car i'd really like to keep, lately i've had a few leaks coming from valve cover gasket, which i replaced, and now from the front drivers cam, and the rear passenger cam, the smell is terrible and the smoke is worse, i clean out the pcv but its still happening, i talked to a mechanic he says with that many miles i should just do the timing belt and get the seals done.

So, weird smell that I thought was burning plastic or rubber is actually hot oil leaking from the valve cover and tensioner gaskets.
My car is nearly 8 years old (2003), and has about 70K. Should I go ahead and buy a timing belt kit and replace all that stuff at the same time?

I brought my 2004 Passat 1.8 in for check engine light-- After checking several things and test driving the car they said the finally found the problem-- the "combinations valve" I searched the forum and below was all I found this under that word combo-- is that the only "combination valve"? This is not something I've heard about before-- are they just saying perhaps 2 different valves?
" Turbocharging System, Overview"
For brake booster
10 - Air filter with Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor - G70 -
11 - Pressure control valve for crankshaft housing ventilation
12 - Combination valve

The CEL on my Passat came on. When I scanned it with VAG-COM, the following fault code was displayed:
000665 - Boost Pressure Regulation
P0299 - 002 - Control Range Not Reached
The car also felt like it lost its power in some way, especially when the turbo kicked in. So after some research, I found out that the Diverter Valve was causing this issue. Rubber diaphragm on original valve was made from rubber and was torn. I replaced it with upgraded valve and wow what a difference!!! Very easy to do, great write up link below.

I Have a 2000 Passat 30 valve v6. I got a low oil pressure message figured I could make it to the store for some oil. Well I turn a corner and heard a valve rattle and the car started to idle rough. I was two quarts low but the noise and the rough idle still exist. In neutral the noise is not noticeable. Driving the noise is only noticeable at high RPM. The car doesn't smoke and otherwise runs fine.

I have the bsh pcv fix and since the valve in the breather was making that noise, I busted the valve out.
Now I think I have a small boost leak somewhere and would like to pressurize the system but what do I use to block off the breather tube now that the check valve is gone?
I hear a little horn like toot sound around 5psi. Almost like letting a balloon full of air fly around letting the air out. How to describe it. Pretty sure it's a leak.

I have a loud rattling coming from my combi valve mainly when I start it up in the morning along with a strong sweet smell. The noise slowly decreases. 2002 Passat 1.8T....

Well I popped the hood to clean my air filter and noticed that the top of the engine looked to sprayed with oil mainly on/around the front of the valve cover. I haven't really "investigated" to see where its coming from. Where it may be coming from!! It has 32,XXX miles and auto.
