My car smells like burnt fumes when I drive; especially in the cabin! At first it occasionally smelt this way, only when I stepped on it. Now its constant. The valve cover gasket has been changed, and it still smells! The next step is to delete the PCV. These fumes are making me sick; rolling down your windows does not work....
View 6 RepliesI have been getting exhaust in my car cabin since last fall. It is worst when I first start up the engine. Once I get driving, it's not so bad. Switching off the heat or recirculating the air does nothing to change things. I used a CO detector in the cabin and the alarm didn't go off, but it still worries me that I might be breathing in carbon monoxide. And none of the shops have been able to diagnose it, let alone fix it. The first shop installed a new 'flex pipe'. The dealer thinks it's coming from a gasket near the flex pipe. The exhaust manifold is not cracked. A muffler shop said there was no leak. Is it possible that exhaust is somehow getting mixed into the air via a faulty valve or vent?
View 6 RepliesHave a 2002 Chrysler 300m with a 3.5 v6eng. Problem is It takes 5 to 10 secs to start my car in the morning, It doesn't start like should, It doesn't show up on the computer. I think they call this long cranking. Had plugs put in at 50,000 miles because of a bad plug, coil is fine and fuel pump is also. Once car starts it smells like gas fumes in the air. At loss as to what the problem is. I don't want to do a lot of lets try this and try that, as this could cost me a lot of money .I have talked to the mechanic and there not sure, along with a dealership. They see dollar signs.

When checking the fluid level it smells burnt but still has a red color to it. Any body else used this fluid for extended amounts of time?

View 3 RepliesThis is the second time that this has been happening. Noticed that it only happens when I use tiptronic (manual). First time I was driving hard then floored brake become light turned yellow. Few minutes later, a rotten, sulfur, egg smell came out of no where and my sister thought I passed gas (when I did not).
Second time that happened was when I dropped off my friend late at night, went on manual but this time I drove casually & normally and didn't go crazy. As soon as my friend got off, there's more of a burnt smell then with a hint of a rotten egg that took place in my car.
My car is 2009 and has only 83k miles in it. Read to a similar scenario online and seems like my catalytic converter needs to be replaced.
I worried that my car is internally bad, should I bring it back to Toyota (where I purchased vehicle pre-owned) for a diagnostic?
I've had my 2001 Ford Ranger for almost a year now 240,000 miles, almost no problems until now. It doesn't overheat, but smoke is coming from the hood and smells like burning oil EVERYTIME I start it up & drive it. I don't think its a head gasket problem, but I could be wrong.
View 3 RepliesMy mom has a 2000 Passat 1.8T Sedan. For the last six months the car has the distinct smell of engine fumes in the cabin. The smell becomes more prevalent whenever the fan is running (A/C or not). She has constantly been back and forth to the dealer but to no avail. The smell is there are idle or just driving around and requires a window to be opened for fear of passing out.

View 6 RepliesI just replaced a burnt out tail/brake lightbulb and found that I had sockets for 5 lights yet only 3 were filled....two were empty. How could this have happened and shouldnt they all be filled? I replaced the blown one but I feel like I should get 2 more per side to make it a full housing. I also am not certain what kind I need . The turn signal bulbs are fine....it's just the tail/brake light bulbs. Why were they not filled? 2002 V6 Passat.

View 5 RepliesI have a 1996 Volvo 960 station wagon which I love dearly. It's been a wonderful car, however something new has occurred that has me quite concerned. Whenever I turn on the heater, I smell gas fumes. This doesn't occur when the A/C is working or when I turn the temperature dial beyond the numbers to the red mark. I understand this is a different heat source than the regular heater. When I took my car in to the dealer for its 150,000 miles checkup I told them about this problem. They experienced it, but couldn't find the source of the challenge. They want me to bring it in again and keep it overnight so they have a lot of time to decipher the source of the problem.
View 1 RepliesI don't drive this car often. I primarily use it for towing a 6000 lb trailer during the "good" season. I drive it once a week during the off season to keep the rust off and the "blood running".
NOW its got some kind of gas fume issue. No DTC's set. Windows up, fan on low, Nothing on startup. Nothing when driving. I smell it slightly when at a stop light and then it fades away. I smell it strongly when backing up to park.
Almost as if it has something to do with fuel sloshing around in the tank. There is no visible fuel on the ground. But it doesn't take a large amount of fuel to make a BIG smell. Fuel cap is tight. I am averaging 19-20 mpg. (I drive like an old man). Where do I start?
