So when I shift "normal", e.g. just driving around, I notice a slight bump between 1st and 2nd and the other gears as I enter the gate. And it is good feedback that you're entering the gate. But when I am trying to clean out the injectors from a stop light , that bump between 1st and 2nd becomes a lot harder to push through when I try to do it fast. My old Jetta was not that way.
View 6 RepliesI am experiencing a slight bump when up-shifting from 1-2nd and back, sometimes with hi-er revs, sometimes just a delay followed with a "bump". A quote from an indy mechanic came at around $4500... (as I have 2004 4,2) he thinks seals are not soft / flexible any more therefore at lower speeds not allowing enough oil to go through... or something like that ( I`m not sure how that all works...)
Most of the similar threads indicate a flush first and if no improvement than a complete re & re.
Interesting enough, I went to VW dealer for a second opinion and they said that getting an individual parts for transmission repair is impossible for them, rather a whole unit only?!
Everytime I hit the slightest bump I here knocking, tapping or clunking coming from my front suspension what could it be.

1)i had heard some creaking noise when going over speed bump
2)some rattling/ creaking noise from the front dash.
3)check engine light appeared
4)gas cap warning light appeared intermittantly.
VW dealer done the following jobs.
1)2328 Verified Creaking noise from both from lwer control arm bushings As per TB 40 08 01 noise coming from both front bushings.
40205653 Wishbone mounting replace.
40172003 Lower wishbone remove + reintall
2 1K0-406-182 Rubb Mount
6 N-103-320-02 Nut
2 N-101-410-03 Bolt
4 N-107-063-01 Screw
2) 2327 Found noise coming from trim piece surrounding radio
68221900 instrument panel trim remove + reinstall.Installed anti rattle tape to trim backing and mounting surface.
3)&4) 01320021 Technical check
2324 possible loose gas cap 01320021=0.2 Performed DTC Readout
P0456 EVAP System very small leak detected. Checked fuel tank sealing several times in basic settings 71. Passes.
Inspected gas cap and adjacent seal. OK. Raised Vehicle inspected fule tank and lines. OK. Operating to specification at this time. Erased DTC's.
With all that done above, I got back my car and i am yet to see if there's any noise coming from the radio rattling and the suspension creak. What the heck did they do to my car on the item #3 #4? What is Erased DTC's and TB 40 08 01?
I recently got my 09 ISF and had a few questions pertaining to some noises I'm hearing. Of course I'm hearing the ticking from the motor but until it causes any issues I can live with it.. My real questions deal with
A: When I go over a bump such as a pot hole cover or something that makes my suspension articulate quickly at low speed, I hear a rattling noise from what seems like the suspension / hub. If it makes any difference in on 2012 shocks and soft springs. (my extended warranty is kicking in soon so I hope that it doesn't play a roll in it as I'm sure they will be quick to deny it)
B: When I am coming to a stop or slowing down and the car shifts into first on its own (I think only in manual mode) there is a clunk / slight jerk sometimes... It may be coming from the rear end? Is it some type of locking or unlocking that's going on?
So my MK7 GTI is my first manual car...And I am having trouble doing slow speed maneuver most of the time...
I often found myself in a situation where the speed and the rpm of the car is too low for 2nd gear, and when I try to shift to first, it would't let me, unless I almost come to a complete stop....
I tried to press the clutch all the way in, then rev up the rpm, then release the clutch, but it doesn't work much, the car still jerks...
1996 Mazda Protege, 133224 miles, mostly city driving, automatic transmission
This weekend the car started bucking, problems shifting into gear, chugging, slight odor of oil, very slow moving. This morning (in my pf's) I ran the Scan OBDII and there were no error messages. I checked fluids and they were fine.
Possible problems? I am at a decision point, get rid of the car (needs tires, front brakes and it burns a bit of oil each month (1-2 cups) or fix it.
My 1997 Saturn SL2 with 5 speed manual transmission won't shift into first or second gear. When I shift into the location where first would be the car is in third gear. It shifts into 4th, 5th and reverse just fine, though the shifter is in the wrong position for those gears. I can wiggle the shifter in neutral and get it to move into the position where 5th and reverse are normally found, but it is stiff and makes a clunking noise when I move the shifter over to the far right side.
I have removed the center console and the bushing appears to be intact. Both cables are in their proper positions inside the vehicle and at the engine. One of the cables (the top one in the engine) has some wear and tear on the boot, but does not appear to be binding. Other than the stiffness and the clunking noise, the shifter seems to be working fine too.
'89 Honda Accord LX Sedan 5-Speed, 266k miles...
Bought this car recently and it worked fine when I got it (the most perfect 22-year old car I've ever seen). Between then and now I've driven it a little. It's my first stick shift car, so I've stalled it a few times, ground the gears a little, etc. learning to drive it. Anyway, it now won't shift into first gear. It shifts fine and drives fine in all the other gears, the only problem is with first. It also shifts fine into all gears when the car is off.
On a side note (in case it pertains to this situation), the car takes a little while to warm up. For 5-10 minutes after it is turned on, it idles really fast and makes a horrid scratching noise and then stalls if put into reverse (don't know about first, since it won't go into first). Once the idling slows down, though, this problem goes away.
In my 2004 Camry the lights for the gear shift selector and fan speed and temperature dial are out. Is this a common light source or fuse that controls these lights?
View 1 RepliesMy 2008 seems to be having some intermittent trouble shifting into the proper gear at a couple of speed ranges.
Occasionally I'll start it up and pull out of a parking space (or leave a stoplight) and it feels like it's stuck in 1st well after it should have switched to a higher gear (I sometimes feel the upshift at about 10* mph). If I continue accelerating and hit about 40-50 mph, once again it appears to stay in the current gear instead of shifting.
When this issue is happening, the car feels even more underpowered than usual and takes way more throttle than it should to accelerate. This results in a cruising RPM of 3.3-3.5k at 60 mph. At that speed the engine would normally be doing about 2.2k RPM. Similar power and RPM conditions exist in the lower-speed range, too.
This whole thing is usually preceded by a rough shift into gear (D or R) when I first start the car. It's always had a slight lurch in the appropriate direction as I take it out of park, but this is really noticeable.
If I stop the car and come back in an hour, it (usually) appears to have reset itself. I can drive around and the transmission control is as good as always.
This has been going on for about a month, with an episode maybe every week or two. I took it to a shop and they didn't find any problems (I told them about the weird shifting and lack of power).
Does it sound like this is what's happening (it's not getting into the right gear)? Thoughts on what I should do? I can't really remember the speeds.
My 20th Ann. GTI randomly would not go into first or second (they move into place but are just limp there and not catching into the gear) I was told for replacement of new 6-speed transmission and they did not offer any alternatives beside replacing it completely.
I know there is a thread talking about this but I read about the shift fork, or a piece of the shift fork that breaks and this problem fits my exact description. Not much info on what I can do, or at least not specified. What is any cost effective way to get my gears back without completely replacing the transmission? Is there anything I can do to just replace a broken part or are there any alternatives?
2006 GX470 57000 miles loaded. I purchased this new and I was wondering if anyone on here can give me a bit of input on what you may think is going on.
My truck when merging onto a high speed roadway my truck doesn't seem to want to shift into the next gear. Almost like if it was a manual I would have to shift it. It really whines out before it shifts.
Also My husband is hearing a humming/vibration from the rear when we are doing about 65 steady I've already had my tires removed and checked to see if I may have thrown a weight or a broken belt but everything is good. I have Michelins on the truck and they are about 2 yrs old. No damage on the tires I have them rotated every 5000 miles.
I had the truck in for service and told them about this. The Lexus service rep told me his mechanic told him he found nothing. I asked them to check again and he said the mechanic would take it home to drive it at a speed that was needed. Again I was told nothing was found. Got the truck back from the seat repair don't even think the truck was taken home.
Ok so I went mudding this past week, and I put my 997 7.3 truck in 4x4 had fun then took it out of 4 wheel now it won't shift past 2nd gear top speed 35 mph.... It still has all the power revs up Rpms fine but it won't go faster then that.
View 8 RepliesI have a 2010 with about 166k miles. I am getting a slight hesitation at slight acceleration or constant speed. It does not matter if it's on highway or freeway speeds. Now I am not sure if this in junction with me changing the PCV valve, cleaning the EGR pipe, or cleaning the TB for carbon recently. It started happening a week after it though.
View 19 RepliesI have 05 V8 and noticed that when I come to a complete stop the transmission is still in 2nd...then after a second or so it shifts to 1st with a slight bump.... I had an 04 V6 Touareg and never had this problem...
View 8 RepliesSo my 2006 m/t has about 85,000 miles on it and today the wife took a short trip in it. She called me 10 minutes in and said the car wouldn't shift into 2nd or 4th or 6th. I have noticed in the last 6 months that occasionally if i get on the gas and go to shift into 2nd, it will sometimes not catch and I assumed this was what she was talking about. She made it where she was going and on her return trip she says it shifted into 2nd once but then no more. I drove the car upon her return and it wouldn't go into 2nd, 4th or 6th. I would sometimes get a slight grinding sound and it was like it just wouldn't pull back far enough to go into gear. The shifter also felt to me to be in a different position no matter what gear it was in. It seemed more upright than normal and definitely not like it normally is. This was nothing like I had experienced before when it wouldn't engage. I saw a previous post where a shifter cable could break.

View 3 RepliesI have a 2 door 2009 Mini Cooper that has a weird intermittent problem. When I am idling -- like at a stoplight -- I hear a slight bump underneath the car. The sound is as if a mechanic has rolled under the car and sits up, banging his head on the undercarriage... every ten seconds... exactly. THE WEIRD THING, though, is that after I turn the car completely off, it will continue for roughly a minute and then finish off with 3 bumps. ba-dump-bump It's all very soft but quite distinct.
View 4 RepliesI am considering buying a 98 Passat, it has 140k kms (80,000 miles) on it. It is in mint condition, but the transmission, will not shift past 2nd gear, whether in Auto mode, or manual shifting? (5 speed tiptronic).
The current owner took it to a mechanic, he tested it, replace a sensor in the tranny, but the problem is still there, and the engine light is still on. Is it possible that the computer just needs to be reset with a proper Vag-com?
Passat wagon, 2002, 1.8 T engine, 68,000 miles Auto transmission. When I start engine the two warning lights stay on, and then I shift into gear the engine jolts hard. I have parked it for now to learn more about what the problem may be. What is Anti-Slip Regulation and what does it mean when the indicator light stays on?
