Do the passenger rearview mirror tilts down when you put the car in reverse?

View 7 RepliesI have a 2001 B5.5 1.8T 5spd, no packages passat. My dad recently got a 2000 V6 B5 auto, loaded. His passenger side mirror will tilt itself downwards when the car is in reverse. Is there a way that my car can do this? It sounds damn handy living in the city.
View 3 RepliesDoes the base model have the passenger side tilt mirror option when you select reverse. I have read that it is standard equipment and I know that the mirror selector has to be in the right position, but it doesn't seem to work. Are there any procedures on doing this?
View 24 RepliesFirstly, when i put my car in reverse, my passenger side view mirror does not automatically tilt. is there some sort of setting i must go to?
Secondly, I was wondering if it was possible to AUTOMATICALLY fold the side view mirror when i off the engine, or lock the doors, and for them to automatically unfold when i start the engine or unlock the doors! Instead of manually turning the knob.
I went into the Menu, and there was an option under "locks .... ---> mirrors", and i selected sync. Does that have anything to do with my question?
Thirdly, The rain sensing wipers. I have to activate this by pulling the lever up ONE STEP to the intermittent mode right. I tested the rain sensing wipers with a bottle of water! and the sensor is at the rear view mirror. The question is that when i off the engine and leave the rain wipers under Mode ONE (one step up the lever from off) the car doesn't automatically activate the wipers if it rains. I have to push it down to off! then back to INTERMITTENT MODE! Is this normal?
I have a base model V6 Touareg. The passenger side view mirror doesn't tilt down in reverse (even with the mirror switch in the R position). Is there a VAG-COM setting to enable this feature?
View 1 RepliesAny way to adjust how much the outside mirrors tilt down when the car is shifted into reverse? I have looked in the Owners Manual and I can't find anything that addresses this. I feel like there must be some adjustment since sometimes the mirrors tilt a lot and sometimes they tilt just a little.
I have tried shifting the car into reverse and letting the mirrors tilt and then adjusting the mirrors with the adjustment controls to the preferred tilt angle, but they didn't retain the memory and went back to the previous tilt settings.
Excellent feature since I park in the city along curbs all the time. I know you have to have the button lit in L or R for the feature to work. Initially, I only had to push L or R once and it would stay lit all the time, but just recently, I have to push L or R every single time I drive my car to use the feature. Just a minor inconvenience, but what did I do and how can I fix this so I don't have to push L or R every single time I drive my car to use this feature?
View 3 RepliesI notice that whenever I put the GX in reverse, the driver side view mirror doesn't come down all the way like the passenger side view mirror.
The driver side view mirror only tilt down half way and its bothering me. I try to play with it but its still behaving the same way. I read somewhere on a different thread where the dealer had to replace the motor...Hope that is not the case with me.

I just picked up my new 2010 Golf TDI and one thing I really miss is the passenger side mirror tilting down when I am in reverse. It is really handy for parallel parking. My Passat and BMW both have this feature and I would love to be able to do it here.
View 13 RepliesI seem to be having a problem with my passenger side mirror and it's reverse function. I have a 2008 Passat Lux. I set the mirror reverse to 'on' in the MFD. I started the car, leave it in park and set up my seats and both mirrors. I press set and then 1 to memorize the positions and hear the chime. I then proceed to put the car into reverse, switch the remote mirror dial to 'R' and position it go down.
The problem I'm having is that the manual says that the passenger mirror will go to it's original set driving position if you go over 9mph (or something like that) or if you move the remote dial to something other then 'R'. But that's not the way it's working. It should ideally go back to the original position when you put the car in to drive (like my old 2002 Passat GLX did), but even when I drive off and go over the stated mph, the mirror doesn't go back to the driving position.
While I'm driving, I then turn the dial off the 'R' position, but it's still looking down....I honestly don't think that I set it incorrectly, but hopefully I am and I don't have to bring it in to service for just that. It's a convenient feature that I want to use. Don't want to curb rash my wheels by my sloppy parking or my wife's....
My old flip style rear view mirror was getting a little bad looking on the bottom of the mirror, so I decided to go pick up an OEM auto-dimming one. I did not care for homelink as I have no need for it, nor do I need temp since thats on the car already, so I wasn't interested in a non oem mirror. Plus I like simplicity, so plug and play is always nice. I paid $70 for the mirror, you can expect to pay around that as well.
Anyways, from my understanding, our Camrys should come prewired for the auto-dimming mirror, or at least the sunroof equipped models should come prewired. The plug sits in the overhead console near the drivers side sunvisor taped down. It's just a little white plug with a black sheath around the wiring.
Tools Needed:
-Your hands
-A smallish hex key (I don't know the exact size) or a smallish torx screwdriver
From start to finish, this shouldn't take you longer than 10 minutes to do. Let me emphasize first that you should make sure you're prewired for the auto-dimming mirror before you go out and buy one unless you prefer to hardwire things, or return things.
Step 1: Check if you're prewired for the mirror. Start by pulling down the overhead console. Push on the sunglasses holder to drop it down, grab on with both hands, and pull down. Don't worry, you shouldn't break anything, but don't pull down insanely hard otherwise you may pull some wires out of the harness attached to it. Now check near the drivers side sunvisor and see if theres a plug taped down, if there is, fantastic!
Step 2: (if you're not prewired for the mirror, you can stop here).Push that plug through the hole near the windshield to get that out of the way. You can now put the overhead console back on.
Step 3: Behind your stock rearview mirror, theres a little screw holding it on. You'll need either a hex key, or a torx screwdriver to remove it (although you can probably use a flathead to get it out if you want). DONT LOSE THAT SCREW. Once you unscrew it, pull up on the mirror to get it to slide out of the little metal mount its sitting on.
Step 4: Now that the old mirror is out, get the new mirror. Get the plug you pushed out of the overhead console and plug it into the mirror. Now, slide the mirror back onto that metal mount and then screw it in.
Step 5: Turn your key on, or to acc, and the mirror should now turn on. Easiest way to tell is if the compass comes up.
Step 5.5: Admire your hard work and your fancy new mirror!
I have a 2012 Prius with Advanced Technology Package. I'd like to always have Lane Keep Assist on. Is there some sort of hidden setting so this comes on by default rather than having to set it every time I start the car?
Also, I don't like the dim feature of the rearview mirror. It comes on by default. Is there a way that it can be set so it is off by default? It is hard enough to see out the rearview sometimes, and the dimmer makes it more difficult for me at night. I don't like having to hit the switch every time I start the car at night.
My truck has done this since I got it and it's pretty damn annoying. While at idle the rear view mirror vibrates slightly and drives me nuts. If you give it any gas at all it stops. Like I said its super slight but it's enough to notice for sure and makes stuff look blurry if your looking through it.
View 5 RepliesI've got an 02 Santa Fe with the auto-dimming mirror. The tension that keeps the mirror in position has gotten loose, so the vibration from the road causes it to slowly move downward while driving.
Is there a way to tighten this up? Do I need to remove the mirror from the windshield to do this? (because, I can't even seem to figure out how to do that!)
Is this possible, maybe through VAG-COM? I see the option in the user manual for having it auto-down on reverse, but doesn't see to be in the options.
View 11 RepliesAfter discovering my wood cracking on the doors, for some reason I decided to look at the passenger side mirror, which used to, repeat, used to go down in reverse. It no longer does. Don't tell me this is first model year shakedown problems. All of the problems on this board signal a car that was put together very sloppily, with absolutely no quality control.
View 9 RepliesHaving trouble setting up their Passengers Side mirror when in reverse? At one point it was set to move down when in Reverse, but lately it hasn't done it anymore. I tried re programming it and no luck.. The instructions in the Manual aren't too clear.. I've tried going off that, but still doesn't work correctly..
View 3 RepliesPassenger side mirror is not rotating while car is in reverse no matter what position I have the mirror selection control. Am I missing something in a set up option? Seems like it did a week ago?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 Jetta GLX VR6, automatic, that I have been going over for my son. The passenger side mirror doesn't adjust when I shift into reverse. I moved up,(towards the top of the housing) a little. Shifted to park and then back to reverse and it moved up again and doesn't return. I have changed the mirror switch, the mirror motors, and have dis-connected all the electrical plugs on the transmission. I figured the plugs needed to be plugged and re-plugged to clean the terminals, but no luck. Is there a switch or sensor that needs to be replaced on the transmission? All the fuses are good. What needs to be done?
View 5 Replies2007 GS350 ... Mirror only moves down sometimes when I shift into reverse. Malfunction started about month ago.
View 14 RepliesI've had this issue for quite a while. on and off for the beginning of me owning the car and now pretty much all the time. The driver side mirror will not tilt down or up. Only side to side. The passenger side works fine and even tilts down when i reverse.
